HP just recalled a hefty
70,000 laptop batteries earlier this month, but it looks like it still has a few more fires to put out, and it's now recalled another 15,000 batteries sold in China. No reports of any actual "flames / fire" this time around but, as with countless other recalls, the batteries are apparently prone to overheating, and can indeed pose a pesky fire hazard. Word of specific models affected is also a bit hard to come by at the moment, but the batteries were apparently used in laptops manufactured between late 2007 and early 2008, and include models sold under both the HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario brands. If that sounds like your laptop, you can get in touch with HP China for a free replacement battery.

Not enough lead?

Would suck, someone should blow a hole through a desk and just place the battery in pieces and take a nice photo. Really small font for this articles make it say "(what we think might happen if said batteries did malfunction)".
Also whenever Engadget takes their site down like that I almost expect it to say something like "brb fire".

Quick! Everyone diss HP like the did Apple for their magsafe problem!
QUIIIIICK!!!
oh wait, nobody cares.

Is the problem from the battery's design, or is it the battery manufacturer's fault? If it's the first, then HP definitely deserves the blame, but everything seems to point towards the latter. (As far as I know HP doesn't make the battery cells themselves)

What? They actually have recalls in China. Maybe they don't explode enough and thus are not sufficiently beneficial to the government's population thinning strategy.

I have an HP pavilion laptop that is more dead than alive... and twice gone to service. As far as my experience goes Pavilion notebooks are pure crap.

I've had bad experiences with mine too. First the LCD started flickering (due to a bad connection with the power cord), then the computer started running on batteries more and more until the power cord finally crapped out. Eventually it was only charging half the time, and when I took it to the repair shop, they said it was a motherboard problem and they couldn't fix it. This has never happend to my other computers (2 thinkpads and a powerbook G3).
The Pavilion also did not take knocks from daily use very well either, and was unbearably hot at times.

Unfortunately my Hp laptop battery is included in this list - However I have purchased an another one for $50.
The reason for my old battery got screwed is Hp's battery cannot resist over charging and if you keep infront Dell batteries they can bear the over charging too.
So the conclusion is Hp's battery are not well manufactured technically as they should be.
