HP's got more additions to its Mini netbook lineup coming your way with the 1101 and 110 XP / Mi. All three models sport a 10.1-inch widescreen LED, autosync software for easier connectivity to your primary PC, and the standard 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 / 1.66GHz N280 processor options with GMA 950 graphics, VGA output, 3 or 6 cell batteries, and 802.11b/g. The Mini 110 XP edition takes the trend even further with -- and we're sure you're surprised here -- 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD or 32GB SSD, as well as optional WWAN and a Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator, which HP claims will let you watch 1080p video smoothly -- yeah, we'll believe it when we see it. Those who go with the company's Linux-based pet Mi can bump up to 250GB HDD and 2GB memory. As for the Mini 1101, it looks like it's basically the business-centric 110 with XP and Vista as your OS choices and no apparent video enhancer. As for pricing and availability, the Mini 1101 is coming at ya on June 1st with a base price of $329, while Mini 110 will follow shortly after in black swirl on June 10th, and white swirl / pink chic on July 8th. Those will start at $279 with Mi and $329 if you want Windows XP instead.
call me when you have a Vista SP2 version. Reallyis no reason to. XP is trash with a botched TCPIP stack.
It's called download SP2 on your own, sport.
I would say most likely these computers will in fact come with service pack 2. Wouldn't you think they would ship with the latest Windows updates when they first go into production?
Jesus Christ I just want a TrackPoint already!
Don't worry, you're not alone. I would have thought the king of track points, Lenovo, would already have it in one of their netbooks.
Unless they've upped the resolution, I can't seem to find a reason for 1080p video on a 1024x600 screen.
Exactly. C'mon engadget post those screen resolutions!!!
I'm going to guess that one does have a higher res screen though, since they do advertise "HD", so it's probably the same screen as the high-res option on the 2140.
But no Ion :(
the CNET review said that it was 1024 x 576. I don't know if there's much of a community for puttis OSX on these but that would kill the deal I think. The lowest vertical res that leopard is usable at is 600. But I don't think the resolution is that good then.
most likely they meant HD output.
any way, i have no idea why theres no HDMI port. death to VGA already!
I have OS X installed on my HP Mini 1000, and it has a res of 1024 x 600. Can't see any reason why they'd shave 24 pixels off for this one.
A post over here http://www.netbooknow.net/hp/mini-1101/
Says "With a 10.1-inch standard or optional High-definition LED widescreen display, and a large 92% full sized keyboard."
You can shop for this at the hp store online at www.hp.com. The 1366x768 screen *is* an available option on the 110.
If it's going to play 1080p smoothly, shouldn't they have added a HDMI port?
The video accelerator probably has one.
Yes they should have, bu they don't have to. Most TV's now have a 15pin plug that will do 1080p just fine. I just wish they would get rid of the big connector. One could convert the HDMI the VGA anyway so there is really no reason unless they don't want to pay a HDMI licensing fee.
I want to see more 1280 X 720 screens and integrated 6 cell designs.
I am really not into the whole netbook thing.
thanks for letting us know
So, do you think the 6 cell will still look like a tumor coming out of its backside, like the current HP Minis?
Fasho
http://portablemonkey.com/article/first-customer-pictures-of-the-hp-mini-1000-6-cell-battery/
has pictures of the 6-cell battery on the 110. Make your own judgement. Decidely odd shape to me, propping the netbook up more than you'd think was necessary given that ridge at the back...
Maybe they gave it an HD res option like the 2140?
Anyone else think that the pink version should have featured more black on the top?
Now they just need a flush 6-cell.
hmm.. 110XP white/pink coming in july...
hmm..
Will this HD video accelerator improve gaming framerate? Or is this JUST for video decoding. If the latter, I'll stick with my wait for the Ion.
Sam's club had a Vivienne Tam edition marked down $400 off because it was the display model and someone had set a BIOS password on it. So I called HP and they want $400 to reset the BIOS password. LOL. Whatever. I wish the MSI wind had those looks... then it'd be a winner.
Take it apart and pull the CMOS battery, then hold the power button for 30secs with the battery out.
is the netbook market saturated yet?
Yep, it's positively precipitating.
Well, since the only real problem with netbooks is that they can't handle HD FLASH content, and this video accelerator probably won't change that, since Adobe Flash doesn't do any offloading, I'm not sure I see the point...
This is exactly why im not getting a netbook yet :\ I need smooth HD flash video playback!
Is there anyway this Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator will help at all?
Supposedly both Broadcom and Nvidia are working with Adobe to get Flash accelerated. Not sure this means Flash in general but not Flash video, or includes Flash video, since the demos I've seen from Nvidia at least did *not* include flash video (on a Tegra platform I think, at Computex), at least so far. When this will come out I have no idea of course. They haven't said.
How does this thing handle hulu and netflix streaming? I'm thinking about getting the current one.
Why would you get the current one when the new ones are coming out in a few days....?
Both Hulu and Netflix use FLASH. So if you watch SD video and don't blow it up to full screen, it will work fine. If you watch "HD" video and blow it up to full screen it will probably NOT work very well--dropped frames etc. Just like every other Atom-based netbook whatever GPU they are using, Ion or not.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.7 on my HP Mini 1035 and really love the system. I own a number of Macs... and purchased Leopard to make this more legal (I know, I know... it's not 100%, but show me a legal, brand-new, Apple manufactured, ultra portable option for under $500 and I'll buy it... and don't even bring up the Air)
This computer is quickly becoming my favorite system as I feel no trepidation carrying it everywhere. I had a 12" iBook, but it was still far too big/heavy (iBook: 4.9 lbs. vs HP: 2.8 lbs.) for lugging around campus (work) every day... and the thought of having a $1000+ piece of hardware in my hand made me cringe at times.
The 3 cell battery works wonderfully for what I use it for... and it's rock solid in terms of performance (I'm one of the lucky people that has sound, networking, sleep, etc. etc. working with the HP mini).
What kind of battery life do you get off of the 3 cell battery?
Those specs are still amazing. They should just throw in the 2gb of memory already or make it an option. With 2gb of ram and an atom 280 with the right HD software it could run proper. I still want one no matter what. Still would like to see a VIA 1.8 nano with ION on one of these babies. We can only wait and see.
are you f**king kidding me? i just got one.
return.
Yeah, whatever, but it still has that painintheass trackpad side buttons...
Damn...Mini 1101, sold!
DVI? DisplayPort? Any digital monitor output?
Is it just me or are they thicker than the 1000?
I Just bought a Compaq Mini 700... I hope the accelerator card can be just added into the spare pci-e slot
They are a *lot* thicker than the HP Mini 1000. They are now just typical netbook thickness, maxing out at 1.4". The Mini 1000 was under an inch.
I have been eying an HP Mini 1000 for quite sometime. This is now a good reason for me to purchase an updated model so long as the accelerator works. Not that I would play HD videos on a netbook all the time, it would be nice to play some HD content smoothly every once in a while.
hopefully they'll have it on the 10th, still going back and forth between this and the 1008HA, i like the fact that you can change the ram and battery in the mini..
Well, it is out now but I don't see an option for the Broadcom HD accelerator.
Was there when I clicked on customize & buy or whatever in the HP Home... Laptop... Mini... XP Model... a few minutes ago.
