Foxconn shows off Moblin-running SZ901 netbook

Well, it wasn't too hard to see this trend coming, but it looks like Foxconn is among the first out of the gate with a Moblin-running netbook at Computex Taipei, with its new SZ901 model opting for Linpus' just-revealed distribution of the OS. As you might expect, however, there aren't exactly many surprises beyond that welcome addition, with the 10.1-inch netbook packing the usual Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and built-in 3G, along with a glossy finish all around. No word on a price or release date just yet, but this is Foxconn after all, so there's a good chance this one could be showing up under any number of different brands. Head on past the break for a quick hands-on courtesy of the folks at Netbooknews.de.

Intwesting how you can tell the battawi can last for three hours max, by looking at it.
I guess thats pwetty good.
By looking at its specs you can, you idiot.
Looks nice, even in red. Blue version would be nicer though :)
At 1:01 in the video he says it has a cock reader. Is that in lieu of a fingerprint reader?
Not more linux, after all the hard work and effort that Microsoft put into developing the desktop and all these applications, these linux people think hey can just crash the party? All this will lead to, is disappointed users. You can't install any decent software in linux and they just don't put much effort into drivers, where windows has support for all my hardware, linux leaves me with only half of it working and the rest barley works at all...
You make me quite sad, Vincent :'( My inner penguin is now dying from your nasty words.
Driver support is the responsibility of the manufacturer, not linux.
Probably any software that you'd run on a Windows netbook (so not games) is available for linux in something comparable.
Actively cooled.
Qwerty keyboard, complete with gigantic non-split spacebar.
Glossy screen.
At least it doesn't have an optical drive.
@molen22
i reviewed about a hundret of these Atom N270 netbooks so far and yes, i can tell you just by looking at the battery specs and by knowing the hardware components, how long the battery life will be ;)
?? /sarcasm ?? or no
Cursed commenting system!!!
meant for vincent up there
Linpus?
Am I misreading that or was it a bad name suggestion?
Usually I would go on this dissertation proving you wrong, and then you'd fire back with some archaic and niche apps that Linux doesn't run, and then I'd call you an idiot for wasting my time, and on and on....
I'm just going to go ahead and say it and save us the time:
You're an idiot. If you don't like Linux, don't use it. If Linux doesn't run the programs you want (in my opinion it runs everything just fine, from the program equivilants of MS products all the way to Windows products like CS2/3, etc., infact running Windows programs BETTER than on Windows..just my experience though; my computer is badass), then don't use it.
It's true, Linux isn't for everyone (yet). Distros are just now getting a little bit of a foothold in the market (amazing that, since they're FREE), and the only thing they REALLY lack is not what most people think (driver support), but games. I've said it before. Give us penguins games and watch TRUE innovation explode into something wonderful. I'd pay for a commercial game that runs native in Linux.
Ok, fine, now I've got going. I learned something really really cool last week that I want to share with all the Linux haters and Linux lovers alike, and I can provide links to support.
If you think that linux is junk (or if you needed a new reason to love linux even more), just remember that PIXAR, etc use almost strictly Linux boxes and renderfarms to produce the CGI movies you watch. Contrary to popular belief (I was part of that belief until I read the links that follow) Linux isn't just used to render the movies, Linux boxes are actually used to CREATE the movies before they get thrown to the renderfarms.
LINUX is powerful. Endlessly powerful. Mac is too, but only so much as 'The Jobs' will allow. MS is pretty much as powerful as it's going to get since it's always third string bench warmer. (face the facts)
So, you sir, are uninformed, misinformed, have had bad experiences, or at the very least have different needs that Linux cannot suffice. That's ok, just don't use it. Me, I love it. Personally, I love having complete and total control over every aspect of my system, inside and out. Don't like the kernel? Just compile a new one (instructions are always available). In fact, the ONLY problems I've had with Ubuntu come from shitty printers/scanners/webcams, and that area is getting better and better every day.
A modular system will beat the shit out of MS or Mac any day of the decade. That's just a fact. It's irrefutable.
If you can prove me wrong, I'll wipe Ubuntu from my system and install Windows Vista 32bit without any service packs.

I'm really interested in alternative OS's. Maybe someday I will try it out. I was told that after using Windows, I won't like it.
