Toshiba's
TG01 made us quick fans of the 1GH Snapdragon processor. Now we hear that Qualcomm will have its 1.3GHz QSD8650A chipset on the market for sampling before the end of 2009 -- that means new smartphone and
smartbooks (get used to it netbook fans) in 2010 running 30% faster while using 30% less power (and just 10 milliwatts in standby) thanks to the use of reduced 45-nm manufacturing processes. The new chipset supports multi-mode UMTS and CDMA 3G connectivity in the same 15 x 15-mm package as well as featuring enhanced 2D acceleration and 3D graphics core, integrated GPS, high-def video recording and playback, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, and support for WXGA (1280x800 pixels) displays pumping out your choice of MediaFLO, DVBH, or ISDB-T digital mobile television. The new chipset makes for a snug fit right in between the existing 1GHz QSD8x50 chipset and Qualcomm's dual-CPU 45-nm QSD8672 chipset running up to 1.5 GHz. After seeing the TG01 in action, you'd better believe that we'll be hunting down all the Snapdragon devices we can find at Computex this week.

Oooh, sexy.
Man, I don't even need a device wrapped around the chipset, just stick that thing on a keyring and let me carry it around.

Yeah, like there are SO many fucking devices in the U.S. that have been and are avaliable on this platfo- WAIT, no, there are none. What a joke. Vaporware. I mean, the iPhone is running five year old hardware STILL....

1GHZ on a phone is too much
if they can do 1.3 with -%30 they can probably do 800mhz with -%70 power. 2010 will be an intresting year for phones and WM devices since they seem to need more hardware with their Wvga resolutions
superhobo @ Jun 1st 2009 6:23AM
And 640K ought to be enough for everybody.

Will HTC pay for the video drivers when they use it in their phones now or what?

1.3Ghz Cortex? Sweet... T.I.'s revised OMAP3 chips -- the 36xx seres -- also are 45nm and the highest end one is the OMAP3640 which has an ARM cortex-A8 core running at 1000 Mhz.
Remember, these new cores based on the ARM Cortex-A8 are roughly twice as fast as ARM11 cores per clock. So even a relatively slow Cortex chip running @ 600mhz has roughly the same performance as an ARM11 core running at 1200 Mhz.
Fnuky @ Jun 1st 2009 6:53AM
Actually Snapdragon isn't a Cortex... it uses the same instruction set (V7) but it's Qualcomm's own design... and it's supposed to be even faster per clock than the Cortex A8!

Hopefully these will be powering the (sic) Touch Pro 3... or TP3 for short... (of course anyone hearing you talk about the TP3 will probably think you are referring to how many sheets of toilet paper... nevermind.)
Lazarpandar @ Jun 2nd 2009 3:25AM
I want a touch pro 2 soo bad.. but I also want a phone thats powered by one of these babies..
What do I dooo!
Terry @ Jun 1st 2009 5:17PM
Looks nice. Would I buy? only $200/$250 or less...
Stick that in an enclosure housing a 1TB hard drive with xbmc/boxee on running instead of android and we're REALLY talking business.
