NEC debuts new hybrid storage LaVie Light netbook

Netbooks with hybrid storage are still pretty few and far between, but it looks like NEC is set to offer one more option with its latest LaVie Light netbook (the BL350/TA6), which also offers a few other improvements over the previous model. That includes a slimmer form factor (1-inch at the front, 1.4-inches at the back), an improved 10.1-inch LED-backlit display, an Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, 802.11n WiFi, an optional high capacity battery and, of course, those dual 16GB SSD and 160GB hard drives. No word on a release 'round here, but folks in Japan should be able to pick this one up this month for a hefty ¥70,000 (or about $730), or they can save a few thousand Yen and grab one of the non-hybrid models.

hybrid storage doesn't justify an 8 benji netbook, give me something with heft and originality and ill bite but a netbook is just a netbook.

I believe that price would certainly be lower if it was released in Europe or North America, Japan seems to be paying a premium for these netbooks....

way overpriced, probably for eager buyer of psp go only.

Definitly, these cheap to make netbooks keep getting more and more expensive yet feature the same specs as all netbooks have since intel brought out the atom. Half of a dozen is just the same as the other half, no difference between them. (except maybe ION).
For the price they ask for some of these things you can get a faster laptop for le$$.

Hmm

Great, hybrid storage. It's still a netbook. Not worth the dual hard drives.

All new netbooks in Japan debut with a sticker price of 60,000 yen or more, only to fall 30% within the first couple of months of release. It's just the way it works here.
This new NEC looks like it was made by Acer. No bad thing, but I thought the earlier NEC brickbook was quite original.

I agree, ~800$ is nonsense.
