Meizu M8 3G gets full specifications list, "planned" March 2010 release date
That little phone thing that Apple maybe-probably has planned for Monday? Yeah -- totally pales in comparison to what Meizu has up its sleeves. The long (long!) awaited M8 3G has finally been detailed, and the full specifications list is now available for your perusal. We're seeing TD-SCDMA and WCDMA radios, an 800MHz or 1GHz Samsung processor, 3.54-inch display (with a staggering 720 x 480 resolution), USB 2.0 connectivity, 8GB or 16GB of flash storage, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and of course, the infamous Meizu OS. There's also support for Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, multi-touch, a light sensor and tilt sensing. Go ahead and mark your iCals, folks, 'cause this one's got a rock-solid "planned" release date of March 2010. Where's the time machine when you really need, it?

Also: where's an editor when you really need, one?
Nando @ Jun 5th 2009 10:28PM
Just cos this phone's got impressive specs doesn't mean it'll get tons and tons of awesome apps and OS updates that'll give it longevity.
superhobo @ Jun 6th 2009 6:16AM
Nando: Just because you think you have something important to say doesn't mean you should reply to the first, comment.

1ghz in such a tiny device, mann i love technology =]!

Two years ago the Meizu M8 was supposed to out-iPhone the iPhone. It's like this company just builds prototypes of better iPhones, but they never go into production. In March 2010 almost all top handsets will have these specs by then and Meizu will be building a prototype for 2011. What is the matter with these people. They've got a decent design, so they should just put it in production and see how it fares.
JohnTitor @ Jun 6th 2009 9:05PM
actually the M8 uses Windows CE 6 (even WinMo 6.5 uses WinCE 5) making it better than the wanna-be smartphones from Samsung and LG
PO.OP @ Jun 5th 2009 9:18PM
Ditch the Meizu OS and add something like Android, WinMo, or even Symbian and then we'll talk...
No point of good hardware without good software to back it up :)
Einlander0 @ Jun 5th 2009 9:34PM
Meizu os runs windows ce which is what winmo is based on
Brian @ Jun 5th 2009 9:19PM
Daren, you're I heart Apple T-shirt is showing.
Barry @ Jun 5th 2009 9:21PM
OMG IT'S THE NEW IPHONE
uberfu @ Jun 5th 2009 9:42PM
Awesome !!!
Shinigami @ Jun 5th 2009 9:22PM
Doesn't seem interesting since we'll see all kinds of snapdragon before the year ends. I would have been happier to hear its based on Tegra and allows 100s of hours of continuous music playback and at least 10 hours of HD movies, but no! The 3G music player will only play music for like 3 hours before the battery dries (not based on actual snapdragon tests, but the last time I heard about a working prototype of Snapdragon, it overheated every 5 minutes - you can guess how much juice it needs, I don't know any other overheating phone).
3rdman @ Jun 5th 2009 9:50PM
Whoa nice screen res.
Bjray @ Jun 5th 2009 9:53PM
Umm... so will it be the same price as the IPhone 3G?
And how will this phone compare to the IPhone 4G or 2009 Edition?
David Z. @ Jun 5th 2009 10:09PM
Step 1: Write down a bunch of impressive sounding specs.
Step 2: Announce a planned release date many months from now.
Step 3: Hope that product becomes feasible before said date.
WixosTrix @ Jun 5th 2009 10:23PM
seriously? They've been working on this thing since the iPhone was announce and it has yet to see production. What is the point?
kevincahoon @ Jun 6th 2009 1:50AM
Actually the M8 already came out months ago. Have you been living under a rock? This is an upgraded version.
pete @ Jun 5th 2009 10:31PM
I still don't understand why this isn't a "Keepin It Real Fake" article... it is blatently copying the iphones design across all fronts.
The Dude @ Jun 5th 2009 11:02PM
Chill, brah'. It's got the "kirf" tag.
The Dude @ Jun 5th 2009 11:04PM
Related: Meizu announces that the M8 will come with a pre-alpha of Duke Nukem Forever.
crescentdavid @ Jun 5th 2009 11:40PM
Very nice. Combining two long-awaited horizon experiences in one post.
kcello @ Jun 6th 2009 12:07AM
I wish sites like Engadget would stop covering this phone so it can die already. Its like if I came out with a laptop with an upside down apple logo with a big track pad then it would be the next best thing since...the Macbook! This company has no innovation, quit giving them props.
Benjamin @ Jun 6th 2009 12:37AM
Hmm.. well... by the time this thing comes out its going to be an old over priced gadget (technologically speaking). might as well buy something else with the tegra processor or the snapdragon... asus aperrently will be hitting with something good soon....
Meizu... to little WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to late. ha ha.
Brian @ Jun 6th 2009 2:35AM
That little phone thing that Meizu maybe-probably has planned for March 2010? Yeah -- totally pales in comparison to what Apple has up its sleeves for 2010.
Sirocco @ Jun 6th 2009 2:27AM
Please, don't bother me with your witchcraft.
Wwhat @ Jun 6th 2009 3:42AM
Won't all that stuff be outdated by then? BT2.0, it's been like 3 years now since they introduced 2.1 I think.
Not that it doesn't sound like a very nice gadget I want of course :)
But how many of those specs will be adjusted remains to be seen, I've heard about nice devices on paper that would be released 'next year' before, and most often they either don't arrive or so crippled compared to the promise that it becomes pointless.
joseph nickson @ Jun 6th 2009 4:17AM
iphone rip FTL
why cant companies make their own ideas..............
artissco @ Jun 6th 2009 4:31AM
yeah but you can buy refurbished M8 just for 250$ (8GB version) and still good phone for average user
FoxKenji @ Jun 6th 2009 4:53AM
I don't know man, using any one of these replica/copy-cat phones, including those lame NOKLAs, etc, would just make anyone look like a pretentious, poser douche-bag.
FoxKenji @ Jun 6th 2009 4:56AM
I mean, get a Pre, or a G2, or a Blackberry or I don't know, the real iPhone. But not this thing.
Poo_and_Wee @ Jun 6th 2009 9:27AM
I dunno, I think you're more of a poser if you HAVE to have the "real thing" and not something cheaper that works just as good, despite being fake.
Pfanne @ Jun 6th 2009 7:38AM
ok thats nuts xD
right now im listening to a song from m83
guidingistar @ Jun 6th 2009 8:22AM
guys, actually u don't really know MEIZU M8, i'm using one, it's great, awesome, u should have a try, most of us only think that it's a kirf of iphone, i think u should discover the truth yourself
macdoc @ Jun 6th 2009 3:03PM
March 2010...Vapor Ware.
SammyXD @ Jun 6th 2009 9:55PM
Yeah, sounds pretty attractive.... But March 2010 might not be the release day, probably delays another 2 year....that's Meizu Style...
