White MacBook last MacBook standing
Apple wasn't totally clear about this earlier, but it turns out all the unibody MacBook models are now MacBook Pros -- the only remaining "MacBook" is the white plastic number. That's definitely a big change from Cupertino's usual rigidly-maintained product matrix -- we'd say that the lower-end Pros with GeForce 9400M integrated graphics definitely blur the line between consumer and professional machines. Still, it's not hard to tell one from the other on the outside, at least: MacBooks are plastic and MacBook Pros are aluminum. We all straight?

13-inch notebook = light professional machine
15-inch notebook = heavy professional machine
I dunno about the other professionals, but this professional carries his "sketchpad" around when out and about and it easily becomes a "canvas" when plugged into my monitor at home.
Best of both worlds. You should try it sometime.
Not all of us need to carry 'canvas'es around with us to be professional. I dont need a 15" display to use Word/Excel/Outlook, and Sibelius is useable at 1280x800.
When I do need a canvas, I need something much larger than 15", using SONAR for several hours at 1440x900 isn't fun! Plus, being partially sighted I have to be careful of dot pitch. Larger laptop displays tend to have denser pixels, which are wasted as I need to adjust DPI settings to compensate.
As NetBaffle said when extra screen realestate is needed, a monitor or FullHD TV is available to us, plus you have more versatility in that you can ether clone or extend your display.
"we'd say that the lower-end Pros with GeForce 9400M integrated graphics definitely blur the line between consumer and professional machines" - really? I mean, for whom? People doing render work? People doing FCP work? Because my white Macbook works wonderfully for software development with extra RAM. And guess what? There's WAY more people doing IT work on Macbook Pros than there are people cutting Jarjar out of Episode I.
What about for people who bought the Aluminum MacBook? I just got mine in February, I'm not going to buy a whole new, barely-better computer to get the "Pro" name! Screw you Apple.
Dude. Is your computer sufficient for your needs?
If so, why the anger? I don't get it.
When you bought your machine your thought process was something like: 'Yes, that is a good product and I am willing to pay the price they ask.' And you did. So why complain? You bought the ticket, now you have to take the ride.
I believe they decided to do this since probably the MacBook White is cheaper to manufacturer than the MacBook Unibody.
That's what I think. I think it was an OK move considering that the MacBook White was much faster than the base MacBook Unibody model. Plus the Unibody MacBook's do look more high end. I think it was a good move for Apple in a way.
I think I'm among the silent majority that doesn't care for the rebranding.
We skipped that part and went to the specs page.
I think Apple is making room for a product where the MacBook is. With the price drop to $1199, there are very few people who will think the $200 savings on a computer model at the end of it's life cycle.
When the white MacBook is finally put to rest, there will be a nice big hole for something like the rumored "MacBook Touch" - probably at a $799 pricepoint.
It will be perfect for those people who want something bigger than the iPhone (face it, as cool as some of the new features in OS3 are, it will be a pain to do some of them on something as small as an iPhone) but don't want to carry around 13" notebook computer.
MacBook Touch, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air makes a pretty good 3-tiered lineup.
See, this is exactly what I am talking about. The white macbook is always trying to keep the black macbook down. WTF?
LOL
