HP Mini 100 available for online ordering, Vivienne Tam safe and sound

All you crazy kids keepin' an eye on the HP Mini 110 are in for a real treat. The company is now listing the machine as available for ordering on its website, superseding the Mini 1000 (don't worry, fashionistas -- the Vivienne Tam model is still available, at least for the time being). As reported previously, these guys are priced at $279.99 (Mi Edition) or $329.99 (XP Edition), with the 6-cell battery option adding $40 to the price, and an Intel Atom N280 CPU costing an additional $25. And the Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator? Look for it next month.

So there is really zero reason to choose this over the competition until MAYBE next month?
What do you mean zero reason, they named it "Mini Mi" that's reason enough.
...
Touché.
Sorry, I am saving all my pennies for a viliv x70 with 60gb hdd.
Wait for Windows 7.....and a multi-touch keypad (I'll upgrade my current Mini when they have these 2 things)
thats my plan as well.
Seriously? Multi-touch on a normal laptop touchpad?
If you want multitouch, go grab something touchscreen and make it happen. On a normal laptop, there is no need for such technology, especially when its not even on a screen.
I am using Multi-touch right now on my laptop to scroll (up/down, left/right), and asa right click. it makes my browsing twice as efficient (at least!) So yes, muti-touch is very important.
It DOES have multitouch.
HP Mini 110 - Cost Cutting Edition
or maybe
HP Mini 110 - we thought a premium netbook was what people wanted but obviously it wasnt so now we are throwing in bog standard components, taking out the premium materials and any extra features like the touchpad on/off switch and giving you a bog standard netbook that blends right in next to the Asus Eee's and Aspire Ones offering no discernible difference.
Can you blame them? Let them engage their competition. I like the design of the Mini the best out of all the netbooks anyway. No harm in making it cheaper as long as it retains its basic design cues.
Dude, the point is that this isn't that much like the Mini 1000. It isn't thin like the 1000 anymore. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge glass, so it doesn't look the same open either. And the materials changed so it feels cheaper.
I actually liked the Mini 1000. Oh well, not a future HP customer now.
Heaven forbid they get ride of the Vivienne Tam edition and replace it with a dry-erase board you can scribble on.
I was going to wait for Win7 and some of the touch screen netbooks before purchasing but I got suckered in by a EeePC S101 for under $300 at the fantastic Wan Chai Computer Centre in Hong Kong. I've since put a 64Gb SSD in it and it has become my faithful travel companion. :)
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with a 5-in-1 Digital Media slot
whats the memory card reader got to do with the gpu?
But it's got electrolytes.
Why is HP not putting the Broacom chip in the netbooks now? I still think that the Mini 110XP is too expensive. I just priced one and other netbook manufacturers (Acer, Asus, etc.) have the same exact specs (or better) for slightly cheaper prices. I guess I will never understand the $400+ netbook market, I can purchase a budget laptop (with much better specs) for the same price. I was hoping that the Mini 110XP would be more affordable than the 1000XP. It is cheaper but still more expensive than other offers.
The chip isn't available yet. That is why it isn't included. I wonder if it is going to cost more.
now im pretty pissed i waited for this
bobby,
you don't need multi-touch to scroll with most touch pads. In fact I have multiple laptops (ranging in age from 3 years to 6 months) that all scroll. granted it is using the "zone" method but it works just fine.
Appears on UK website in the form of Compaq Mini 110c for £279.
