We'd be careful about putting too much stock into an admittedly far off rumor, but the gang at
1UP claim they've heard from
those in the know that Microsoft's set to release a new Xbox console in Fall 2010, and that current media darling
Project Natal is "the cornerstone" of that evolution. Specs-wise, it's suggested we're looking at only a marginal boost analogous to Nintendo's GameCube-to-Wii transition -- place your bets on how long it'll take to
"max out" this time -- as well as a rebranding (Xbox Natal, anyone?) aimed at attracting the highly coveted, more mainstream / casual audience, before Mario and the crew catch a second wind with the oft-rumored
Wii HD. There's nothing unbelievable about these whispers, but again, Fall 2010 is quite a ways off and anything can happen in the meantime. First unveiling will allegedly be the 2010 Game Developers Conference in early March, so your best bet for now is to hold tight and keep a close eye on who gets a primetime slot among that event's keynote speeches.
Great.... Xbox 360 is to Xbox/natal as Iphone 3G is to Iphone 3GS....
i wonder how people are going to play Natal in the dark?
I'm going to play it with irons in my hands.
@jimmy
If you read the articles, instead of just flame baiting, you'd know.
@ethan
Ow, lawsuit.
They'd do nicely to make a cheaper design, Sony would have difficulty following. However they might want to make a profit.
And being smaller will certainly help their current wooing of the uninitiated gamer. Hey, maybe they could even put the hard drive somewhere that's not stupid.
If this is the case, I will drop it like it's hot!
Crap. So I guess the rumored, and in hindsight HIGHLY optimistic fall\winter release date just got **** punted into the corner and is oozing down into the cracks. Oh well. A year and a half isn't too bad of a wait.........yes it is. :-(
"suggested we're looking at only a marginal boost analogous to Nintendo's GameCube-to-Wii transition"
That right there should tell everyone this is a load of crap, because Microsoft would never settle for a marginal boost.
Good! Let them make their next console more mainstream and targeted towards the non-gamer (generally speaking), so that way there wouldn't be so much competition against the PC. Maybe then we might actually start getting some proper PC games!
There is no way MS is burying the 360, yet. This is ridiculous and Engadget's readers know it.
Regardless, Natal is going to kick major ass. I can only hope it's no where near $200.
A new Xbox would be awesome. How many has Microsoft had to replace because of the RRoD?
lets hope so
Wow, I'm quite surprised it's even going to be that soon! I was expected 2011, at the very earliest ...
I don't mind. Well, I do but I don't have much of a choice. My 360 is dead and the warranty is no longer covering day one systems. I have to buy a new one anyway.
I'm hoping its not slim because the 360 doesn't handle heat too well and slimming it down won't help.
Omg there will be no new console,a slim your crazy this brick I have still isn't good.How do you make it slim.WARNING don't waste your time trying to find one in November 2010 just wait till Jan-Feb of 2012 Why? Because after Christmas of 2010 there will be no demand(or less) After holidays there's alot.This happened with the 360 after that Christmas there were tons!
