Dell Latitude Z series laptop leaked, sized up in pictures

With nary another word in terms of specs or details, one lucky forum goer at NotebookReview has posted what looks to be pics of a new, as of yet unannounced Dell Latitude Z Series laptop. Not much to say at the moment, aside from the obvious Adamo influence, but we did spot a biometric fingerprint scanner, an oddly-placed ethernet port in the back, and Windows / Intel Centrino stickers. Earlier in the thread another person, albeit lacking any physical proof of owning one, chimed in to say it'd have a 15-inch matte screen, Core 2 Duo processor, webcam with facial recognition, and DisplayPort, with a scheduled release a week from today. Judging by the ports in the pics, it's definitely a thin one -- could we be seeing Dell finally dip its toes into the CULV market? With any luck, we'll be hearing more about this soon.

Its actually not that bad looking. I am a little confused about that ethernet port, if they have some weird plastic sticking out the back of the laptop, that would ruin the looks for me. The vista basic sticker is kind of funny.

Looks to me like the ethernet is an external dongle. That's why it looks so weird in the guy's hand.

No screen latch, no actual shot of the back, screen doesn't look like it has enough clearance to actually close. I get the feeling that something isn't quite right about this one.

uhhh ok, yea i did.

i thought dell realized no one likes an ugly computer... i guessed they forgot? see, when people bash apple and say they are overpriced, at least they can make a sub 1-inch notebook with enough power and classy looks. dell, on the other hand, may want to spend some more money on better quality materials so this plastic laptop doesn't fall apart after you drop it.

It's amazing that macs jumped in popularity once Apple switched to Intel which allowed users to install Windows or Linux. Amazing. At least their new mice are capable or right click, however poor and awkward it may feel.

I have never seen a laptop so ugly in years, not only that, but, why are the keys spaced so far apart? I mean, if they wanted to take up more space, put a number pad or /something/. Maybe a set of media-related buttons. I dunno. But that giant space just looks dumb. If I ever got one, I'd cover the space with a crapton of stickers or something.

Maybe the design is a revolutionary approach for bussines laptops: I think they made it so ugly and big that nobody wants to steal it. Good idea, and bad news for Kensinton

It's extremely top heavy. The LCD is heavier than the base\body. When I leaned it back in a standard viewing position of using the laptop on a desk\shelf while standing up, if I even slightly nudged it or the desk\shelf back, it would try and tip over backwards. Also, as you can tell from the pics, there is a TON of unused space between edge of the body and the keyboard on either side. They should've either made it a full keyboard with numpad, or they should've gone with a smaller screen. Also, I don't know what you guys are smoking.. but there is hardly ANY Adamo influence here, and certainly not any 'obvious' kind... unless you consider 'thin' to be a result of influence from the Adamo. I have an Adamo sitting right next to me and it looks and feels COMPLETELY different in practically EVERY way.

I have actually held a prototype of this. Very thin and the prototype had a kinda rubberized surface to it. I also believe I was told it has a 16" screen.

Dell brought one of those over to demo for us here at work and it is a very nice machine. No CDrom on it, but I am sure they will sell you one to go over USB. It was .8" thick, had USB, Display Port and eSATA ports on the side. Along with the Facial recognition system and fingerprint reader, it also had a interesting touch pad on the side of the screen. This allowed you to work the audio controls and you could configure shortcuts. The touch panel was actually the bezel of the screen if that makes since.

One of the reasons for the delay was due to a new charging system they are working on for it. They are working on a wireless charging pad system as an option.
