Video: Asus 11.6-inch Eee PC 1101HA to ship in Europe this month

We caught wind of this one way back in May, and even got to see the mythical beast in the flesh at Computex, and now Netbook Italia is reporting that Asus' Eee PC 1101HA, the hulking 11.6-inch notebook, will be shipping in Europe at the end of the month for €399 (that's roughly $560). Part of the Seashell family, this guy will be available in black or white, and packs a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z520, Intel GMA graphics, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard disk, and Windows XP. We've also seen a 3G version of this bad boy, but we're not sure when or where that one will see the light of day. Check out the hands-on video after the break.

The placement of the right shift key is ridiculously annoying.
Why don't they change it??????
ZombieRace @ Jun 15th 2009 10:43AM
Honestly I don't think I ever use the right shift key...

So did they go with the 1.33GHz processor to save power? I'm trying to figure out why this is $560, when the 1000HE is $383 on Amazon right now. Obviously this one has a bigger screen, and (claimed) battery life of up to 11 hours. But the 1000HE is faster (1.66GHz) and nearly as energy-sipping (claimed 9.5 hours battery life).
Am I missing some important difference besides the screen size?

currency conversion. This is Euro to Dollars, when it is out in the US it will probably be cheaper.

Haha caught "wind" nice!

Nice but I preferred the 18.4 screen with Blu Ray lol

That article Engadget posted a week or so ago showing the internals being held together by masking tape pretttty much killed any chance of me ever buying one of these. I wouldn't even pay $300 for that kind of quality
superseagulls @ Jun 15th 2009 10:57AM
The tape in the 1008ha isn't structural, there are screws holding everything down, the cables HAVE to be taped otherwise they would never fit the case together, Asus have done their best to minimize wasted space, so the cables don't have a lot of space to be run in, they would pop out without the space! How about you actually use one and assess the quality? I found it firm, the best keyboard I have used in any laptop (no bounce), the finish was perfect and a zero pixel fault policy..... that's how you judge quality, not if there is tape within the laptop........
MeowR- @ Jun 15th 2009 1:37PM
@Michael
Dude, tape is the shit. What are you talking about?
Michael @ Jun 15th 2009 5:10PM
@superseagull
I've considered what you said, weighed your thoughts carefully, and I still think masking tape holding ANYTHING together in there warrants a thumbs down. As for your experience with the no flex keyboard, congratulations, you've experienced something that can be found on dozens of laptops from tons of manufacturers. The zero pixel guarantee? That should be a guarantee no matter what!
Tape = fail, and fire hazard.

They have changed the shift key, it's the FN key that is on the far right now, pas the cursor keys. However, the right shift is still quite small.
gzmask @ Jun 15th 2009 1:11PM
no replacement battery?

GeorgeC @ Jun 15th 2009 2:13PM
How many fucking eee pc's do they want to make? it was about small pc's to start, now they have countless model numbers with pointless upgrades for a whole new release where they change one or two things
EEE PC ANPG/101-A
EE PC DICKASAURUSWREX-999
EE PC GGLOLA87-2.22H
thorn2200 @ Jun 15th 2009 11:47PM
Is it really a netbook if it's 11.6 inches? If it's that big they may as well put an optical drive in it and call it a normal laptop. I guess the reason is they know it'll sell better if it's an eee.
someone @ Jun 16th 2009 12:24AM
is it really as thin as the top picture?
Jake @ Jun 17th 2009 10:35PM
WHERE'S THE DVD DRIVE??????
AT CLOSE TO 12 INCHES, THERE'S NO EXCUSE NOT TO INCLUDE IT.
CHINCY CHEAPSKATE ASUS STRIKES AGAIN.
