3G-equipped Acer Aspire One 531 netbook hits the US

Acer's Aspire One 531 has been floating around Europe since April, but it looks like it's finally made its way to a few retailers over here, and in a couple of different versions no less. Those include the AO531h-1791 "Pro" version, and the AO531h-1440 and AO531h-1766 "Normal" versions, the former of which packs 2GB of RAM and XP Professional, while the latter two dial things back to 1GB of RAM and XP Home. Otherwise, you'll get the same 10.1-inch 1,024 x 600 display on each, along with the usual Atom N270 processor, a 160GB hard drive, and built-in 3G, which can bring the price of the normal version down to just $150 if you also sign up for an AT&T service plan. Plan on spending upwards of $450 if you want to go your own way.

Hmmm.. 50 a month for 5GB of transfer?? Or 45 a month for almost unlimited at home :)
Easy choice, ill find a wifi spot.
THIS is what I'm saying. Just what I want to do. Open another 2 year contract with AT&T. I bought the 3GS and it will be my last iPhone with them. In '10 or '11 when their exclusivity contract expires the only thing they will see of me is the delayed light trail I'll leave behind as I haul ass to Verizon.
Happy Birthday Jesus....Have some crap
Netbook posts make me dizzy now. (same shit, different...)
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........................ram...............
$60 a month for something that can only be used on that 1 locked netbook? The USB dongle version sometimes are offered for free, and usable on any computers you have. Besides, $450 subsidized to $150? Why can't they subsidize it to $99 or even free?
2gb! Mmmmmm ...
OK
Dear Cell Phone companies,
Perhaps if you didn't charge $50 a month for phone service, $30 a month for phone data service, and $30 a month for additional data service for a netbook, I might be interested. We all know how much money you make off of your service, and how much it costs you, so please don't tell us you need $100-$150 a month because otherwise you'd go broke.
if you dont pay them that much how's their CEO going to fly in their private jets?
And yet there are plenty who pay it so why should they change?
+1
I'm ashamed of the US :(
My friends in Europe, Africa and Asia pay less for their cell phones (including even faster 3G data) and have better working services. I don't want to be one of these "blame America first' folks but I think our phone companies screw us royally.
Unfortunately my options are limited. But unless they lower their prices dramatically (while improving their service quality) I will NOT buy any of their 3G data service. But I'm sure they don't care about that...
Africa? Whoa.
Unless you mean Egypt or S. Africa
Better find a Cafe with WiFi
Umm, any sensible person will buy the netbook for $259 at a handful of stores, then tether it for free using their unlocked 3g cell phone's data plan.
I'd expect to see this on other carriers soon. The "GOBI" tech that is in the advertisment works on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.
