Adamo redux: Dell teases new thin-and-light laptops in Paris with no specs

See that? That's Dell's Phil Bryant and Michael Tatelman briefly displaying what they described as an "entirely new model line" of thin-and-light laptops without any further comment at an event in Paris this morning. If that sounds like a replay of the poorly-received Adamo teaser at CES with old dudes instead of models, well, you're right -- Tatelman even referenced the negative Adamo reaction but said "we're going to try this again." Good plan. At least this time we don't have to wildly guess at what we're seeing: we're almost positive that's a pair of those Intel CULV-based ultraportables rumored to be released in August, and unless Dell's foolishly keeping with the Adamo theme, we'd assume specs and prices will match up with Acer's Timeline series. Keep a sharp eye, we'll let you know.

oh la la mon cheri!
Pierre Cardin included.
Damn. Those old guys look just like Dell computers or maybe the other way round. Hey, geriatric dude, you're getting a Dell. Just one short step before the open or maybe closed coffin. "The last computer you'll ever own." That is one scary Dell photo. Get a Dell and a prescription for Viagra for a limited time only. After that, nothing is guaranteed.
That looks better than this fugly thing:

I applaud Dell for trying again, I hope this time they'll bring the specs up to at least the Macbook Air's level. 9400M with a 2.13 ghz cpu and SSD options. And of course price this time.
Hell no, the macbook air proved there is a thing that called overspeccing a product, it suffers from heat problems.
Modelling FAIL
Yeah. Because, there are no hot models in Paris. Oh, wait...
Seriously, going to Paris to announce this is such a corporate marketing department idea. You can tell the exact thought process that went in to it - "well, Paris is chic. We have stated our commitment to bringing products that are chic in the coming quarter. Therefore, launch in Paris." Dell do not get cool. Low-key is cool.
"Modelling FAIL"
Coming from somebody whos avatar looks like somebody wearing a Walmart vest with a Storm Trooper helmet giving a dual thumbs up.... Oh irony how thou never get old.....
Wow, someone's having a bitter Tuesday...
*Modeling fail.
But he's right. It is irony, at least incongruous.
@GRAMMAR POLICE: I speak English, not American. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_spelling_differences#Doubled_consonants
GRAMMAR POLICE FAIL.
I'd hit that
As I am based in New York, this grammar cop doesn't take your foreign spellings into consideration. Let's go, you limey git.
@GRAMMAR POLICE: Engadget's global, so you should just take a break here.
NO your Target storm trooper helmet fails
@MikeWeezer,
What exactly do you want to hit? The Storm Trooper, or the two guys in the picture, or the laptops, or something else entirely?
There is a serious lack of good looking models on engadget lately.
Havent Samsung relased something interesting lately. Their models are far more attractive.
COME ON GET IT TOGETHER!
I would call it a modelling WIN when you look like Tango & Cash.
well congratulations MrNuclear you are now the Funnyman of the Hour.
You get a full win!
Cash +1
Tango +1
How much you want to bet that the uber-tan dude didn't want to be holding the pink one...?
That's "Leatherface" to you, pal.
Maybe there are no specs, because they're forced to review their specs after Apple lowered the boom on the pricing for Macbook Air?
Didn't the just stop selling dell mini 9.
where are the hot girls?
Dell's new marketing strategy: Let's throw a bunch of stuff at Engadget, and see what sticks.
LOL
I sometimes feel that way as well, they do some cheap PR stunt and let Engadget fill in the rumors!
M
Even if you were kidding, you are absolutely right. They rely on Engadget, Gizmodo, etc. to generate online buzz. Doesn't matter to them if it's positive or negative or even accurate. All publicity is good publicity.
Looks like Dell is making colorful Lenovo X200's.
the guy on the right has clearly been basking in his own greatness a little too much...
...sorry i meant sun
MR. LIAM NEESON! Hold that Pink Dell higher or you won't get paid! HIGHER!!
P.S. I think the guy on the right is doing "blue steel"
LAWL you sir are correct
muhahahaha.......
That's Magnum, can't you tell the difference?
Excessive tan is EXCESSIVE.
looks pretty standard to me.
roflcoptor
anyone think the dude on the left looks like that dude from alias/titanic
Another teaser? Weak. Apply-style product announcement copy FAIL. You're trying too hard to be cool. It doesn't work that way.
Presented by Ricardo Moltaban........ Welcome to Adamo Island......
You guys are such Dell Fanboys...
:)
Old men as product models... fail.
Wow. Dell needs to get the weed guy back. At least he fun and invigorating. Not sure what the hell these two are doing but it sure is shit not selling me on a Dell.
Dell is going to be the GM of computers. They have 9 laptop lines and are flooding the market.
I swear, this is why I became a Mac fanboy, and I used to have a Dell.
More cheap plastic toys.
the laptops or the models?
I just got a new Studio XPS from Dell, shipped broken!
Called customer service and went thru hell. 22 days to replace!
I then said just give me a refund, The Lady at dell said " just take the new one, and send them both back at the same time" WOW!
Dell customer service is a joke, I will never buy again.
I guess the older Adamo will be dumped in Dell outlet soon then? =)
Where ex-NFL players go to die: this picture.
sometimes hot men need love too you know?
Really? Women think these guys are hot?
Not this girl.
The only hot grandpa is Steve Jobs =)
Are they going to make the Adamo in 17" screen with 1920x1200 resolution? That's what I'm looking for. Something as thin and "light" as a mac book pro, but w/ windows running. is there such a thing now?
Yeah, a 17in MBP running Bootcamp
Yup, it's a great machine. Runs Windows where it belongs too, safely contained inside VMWare Fusion.
Pick me and I will time all the economic recoveries!!!
Man, they need to hire those asian girls from the Samsung product photos.
Hhhmmmm, let's kill off the Mini9 and rebrand it as a new Thin-n-Lite.
The pink one is the culv Mini 11.
or maybe the black one is.
NEITHER of these guys is THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD...
http://www.staythirstymyfriends.com
lol.
Dell needs somebody to copy, that's why they failed so bad with the Adamo. Now they are trying again, and as luck would have it Acer's TimeLine is here to copy from. Should be a resounding success this time around.
Dell is proud of not having a R&D department, after all. Michael Dell said so himself.
BTW Engadget - I have changed my account picture about a month ago. It appears changed on my profile page. So how come it's still the old one on all my comments?
FAIL
If they are showing off light and thin laptops maybe they should hold them so you can see how thin they are.
From the top they just look like any other laptop.
