Adamo redux: Dell teases new thin-and-light laptops in Paris with no specs

See that? That's Dell's Phil Bryant and Michael Tatelman briefly displaying what they described as an "entirely new model line" of thin-and-light laptops without any further comment at an event in Paris this morning. If that sounds like a replay of the poorly-received Adamo teaser at CES with old dudes instead of models, well, you're right -- Tatelman even referenced the negative Adamo reaction but said "we're going to try this again." Good plan. At least this time we don't have to wildly guess at what we're seeing: we're almost positive that's a pair of those Intel CULV-based ultraportables rumored to be released in August, and unless Dell's foolishly keeping with the Adamo theme, we'd assume specs and prices will match up with Acer's Timeline series. Keep a sharp eye, we'll let you know.

Pierre Cardin included.
iphonerulez @ Jun 16th 2009 8:19PM
Damn. Those old guys look just like Dell computers or maybe the other way round. Hey, geriatric dude, you're getting a Dell. Just one short step before the open or maybe closed coffin. "The last computer you'll ever own." That is one scary Dell photo. Get a Dell and a prescription for Viagra for a limited time only. After that, nothing is guaranteed.
M. @ Jun 16th 2009 12:30PM
That looks better than this fugly thing:

I applaud Dell for trying again, I hope this time they'll bring the specs up to at least the Macbook Air's level. 9400M with a 2.13 ghz cpu and SSD options. And of course price this time.
Beastage @ Jun 16th 2009 5:15PM
Hell no, the macbook air proved there is a thing that called overspeccing a product, it suffers from heat problems.
Richard Lai @ Jun 16th 2009 12:31PM
Modelling FAIL
KarlW @ Jun 16th 2009 12:58PM
Yeah. Because, there are no hot models in Paris. Oh, wait...
Seriously, going to Paris to announce this is such a corporate marketing department idea. You can tell the exact thought process that went in to it - "well, Paris is chic. We have stated our commitment to bringing products that are chic in the coming quarter. Therefore, launch in Paris." Dell do not get cool. Low-key is cool.
kal326 @ Jun 16th 2009 1:35PM
"Modelling FAIL"
Coming from somebody whos avatar looks like somebody wearing a Walmart vest with a Storm Trooper helmet giving a dual thumbs up.... Oh irony how thou never get old.....

Wow, someone's having a bitter Tuesday...
GRAMMAR POLICE @ Jun 16th 2009 1:50PM
*Modeling fail.
Toy Yoda @ Jun 16th 2009 1:56PM
But he's right. It is irony, at least incongruous.

GRAMMAR POLICE @ Jun 16th 2009 2:14PM
As I am based in New York, this grammar cop doesn't take your foreign spellings into consideration. Let's go, you limey git.
Richard Lai @ Jun 16th 2009 2:33PM
@GRAMMAR POLICE: Engadget's global, so you should just take a break here.
vitosnap @ Jun 16th 2009 3:11PM
NO your Target storm trooper helmet fails
Toy Yoda @ Jun 16th 2009 5:14PM
@MikeWeezer,
What exactly do you want to hit? The Storm Trooper, or the two guys in the picture, or the laptops, or something else entirely?
jack @ Jun 16th 2009 6:14PM
There is a serious lack of good looking models on engadget lately.
Havent Samsung relased something interesting lately. Their models are far more attractive.
COME ON GET IT TOGETHER!
MrNuclear @ Jun 16th 2009 6:52PM
I would call it a modelling WIN when you look like Tango & Cash.
auricom @ Jun 16th 2009 9:53PM

Bosco @ Jun 16th 2009 1:14PM
That's "Leatherface" to you, pal.
gerrrg @ Jun 16th 2009 12:31PM
Maybe there are no specs, because they're forced to review their specs after Apple lowered the boom on the pricing for Macbook Air?
E C S Sucks @ Jun 16th 2009 12:31PM
Didn't the just stop selling dell mini 9.
htd @ Jun 16th 2009 12:32PM

Dell's new marketing strategy: Let's throw a bunch of stuff at Engadget, and see what sticks.
BigDaddyM @ Jun 16th 2009 12:43PM
LOL
I sometimes feel that way as well, they do some cheap PR stunt and let Engadget fill in the rumors!

Phil Meyer @ Jun 16th 2009 5:19PM
Even if you were kidding, you are absolutely right. They rely on Engadget, Gizmodo, etc. to generate online buzz. Doesn't matter to them if it's positive or negative or even accurate. All publicity is good publicity.
Marco Juan @ Jun 16th 2009 12:33PM
Looks like Dell is making colorful Lenovo X200's.
thatrotierkid @ Jun 16th 2009 12:34PM

absolutc @ Jun 16th 2009 1:32PM
Wow. Dell needs to get the weed guy back. At least he fun and invigorating. Not sure what the hell these two are doing but it sure is shit not selling me on a Dell.
Jordan Biffle @ Jun 16th 2009 1:24PM
Dell is going to be the GM of computers. They have 9 laptop lines and are flooding the market.
I swear, this is why I became a Mac fanboy, and I used to have a Dell.
honorelsu @ Jun 16th 2009 1:25PM
More cheap plastic toys.
Dimitri @ Jun 16th 2009 3:55PM
the laptops or the models?
Kevin Niven @ Jun 16th 2009 1:35PM
I just got a new Studio XPS from Dell, shipped broken!
Called customer service and went thru hell. 22 days to replace!
I then said just give me a refund, The Lady at dell said " just take the new one, and send them both back at the same time" WOW!
Dell customer service is a joke, I will never buy again.
pika2000 @ Jun 16th 2009 1:40PM
I guess the older Adamo will be dumped in Dell outlet soon then? =)
