Garmin-Asus G60 slated for August launch, will be last non-Android Linux phone for the couple
What's that, you're still holding your breath waiting for the G60 release? Breathe, child, breathe, it's still going to be a little while before you can get your nav on with this celly. Obviously it didn't make the first half of the year as initially planned, but the Garmin-Asus partnership is now saying that the phone will still arrive at its retail destination before 2010, with some places seeing it in just two months time. Why the delays? Apparently its custom flavor of Linux is at least part of the problem, leading the corporate couple's marriage counselors to suggest a move to Android for all future, non-WinMo handsets -- devices that, contrary to earlier reports, will also launch before the end of the year. So, G60 in August, or potentially even hotter Android nav phone a few months later? Decisions, decisions.

I used this phone for three years and I'm sick of it, EW!!! I thought about firing up my time machine and going back and warning myself not to buy it instead of the 3GS but was afraid the sight of myself would scare the hell out of me, even though at that point I already knew of the time machine. Everyone I meat (delicious) tells me that the phone is lame and I shouldn't have bought it because people in Iran want me dead because of it? Anyways, I have to go now because the seaker destroyers are coming and I need to ready my camo.

not funny = fail.
Has anyone here tried or have an Android phone? Because from what I saw (pictures on the interweb), it seemed pretty normal. Yet, there seem to be a lot of excitement around it. I'd really like to try it but the G1 just arrived in Canada...
Also, I liked snakes on a plane.
Ive used it. It has alot of potential but unless carriers start picking up Android based devices we arent going to see it.
Its slick yet functional at the same time. Its more a competitor to the iPhone than to Blackberrys and WinMo devices which are aimed at the business markets.
This phone will suck, or rock. No ifs, ands, or Pres
Ahh yes. This release has success written all over it
/sarcasm.
Seriously though, for ppl who've followed these half-hearted POS (G1, Storm) releases know that this is scheduled for doom. There's barely any display of software, any info about the device, phones have already come out with GPS receivers and A LOT of phones have turn-by-turn from Garmin installed in them.
This device is WAYYY behind it's time and I have a doubt ANYONE would see a functioning device before 2010. It's so pathetically predictable, it almost makes me want to buy one out of pity.
I am intrested in seeing how Asus will play this off, they already have a great laptop/netbook lineup.
i need someone's opinion here...
my Nokia E50 died a few weeks ago, and i'm running off a crappy GoPhone now. i'm an AT&T customer and am eligible for an upgrade. i was waiting for the N97, but decided to cancel my pre-order due to slight disappointment. now, this Nuviphone is sick, but it might** hit select regions come August. i'm tired of waiting because this GoPhone is a piece of shit.
should i just pick up an iPhone 3GS for now and get the Garmin later (unsubsidized of course), or save the monehs and just wait for Garmin or i8910 w/o 850 3g?? what do the trolls think?
*and i'm not a big iphone fan.
No matter what, I would say that if you haven't ever played with an iPhone before, you should definitely try to spend some time with one, using the web browser and application store.
I'm not an Apple fanboy and I don't own an iPhone (Stuck on Verizon), but all the anti-iPhone haters are missing out on a great device,
particularly now that the 3GS will be out in a week and fills all the previous gaps in functionality.
If you can't stand not having a physical keyboard, and have to have something now from AT&T, I'd get the BB bold.
If I were you (and I didn't want an iPhone) and you could stand waiting a little while, I'd wait for the fall as there are many large touchscreen phones running Android coming out with fast T.I OMAP3 or Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. And maybe by then Blackberry will finally have a new phone out with hardware accelerated graphics.
If they are really coming out with an Android version right after this oft delayed debacle, I don't see why they don't can it right now. I imagine most consumers would wait for the mass supported version.
This would have been great a couple years ago when it was announced, but now we've got TomTom on the iPhone right around the corner so now this phone just seems "meh".
except that TomTom navigation sucks compared to Garmin...
however the "custom linux" version seems "meh" compared to an android version
