Logitech debuts M555b Bluetooth mouse

Logitech may have thrown caution to the wind with the designs for its recent V220 RF-based laptop mice, but it looks to have brought things back to basics for its new M555b Bluetooth mouse, which packs most of the featured you'd expect in a clean and simple package. That includes five programmable buttons, a 1,000 dpi resolution, an "ultra-fast" scroll wheel, space for a pair of AA batteries, and a sleep mode to help those last a bit longer. Sold? Then plan on spending $59.99 when this one lands later this month.

Thats one LARGE mouse....
srue @ Jun 17th 2009 7:05PM
People with smaller hands should press
Ctrl -
four or five times to fix that.
insky @ Jun 17th 2009 5:58PM
I thought that said Blue Track mouse, and I was wondering when they got the licenses to use that.
TechnoFreak @ Jun 17th 2009 6:51PM
I don't like it at all.
I wish Logitech would go back to innovating and REMAKE THE MX310 IN WIRELESS/BLUETOOTH MODE, DAM IT!
Kamil @ Jun 17th 2009 6:07PM
.............................wow, im totally getting that
will it work on a desktop computer though?
GingerFox @ Jun 17th 2009 6:28PM
IF your asking a serious question then yes it will.
Martin Trautmann @ Jun 17th 2009 6:09PM
Still that expensive? BT adaptor is much less than $10, a reasonable mouse as well. What's so special about this retro device?
wyatt @ Jun 17th 2009 6:14PM
bluetooth charges a qualification fee for every product that uses it, so that could be part of it. plus the hyperfast wheel costs more than a standard wheel.

DustoMan @ Jun 17th 2009 10:35PM
Are you kidding? What is up with people complaining about the price of Bluetooth products!?!? First the Harmony PS3 adapter and now this!?!? Sheesh, what a bunch of sticklers!
BigD145 @ Jun 17th 2009 11:04PM
I'll stick with my thrifted $3 wireless mouse. Now if only I could find some Bluetooth headsets there.
Thunderbuck @ Jun 17th 2009 6:20PM
I use a Logitech BT mouse with my laptop, and I'm really happy with it. This one looks like a worthy successor.
xValentine @ Jun 17th 2009 10:20PM
How long does the battery lasts ?
joshky @ Jun 18th 2009 7:33AM
I use one too; ive been using it for about a semiester and the batteries havnt been changed yet
Alex @ Jun 17th 2009 6:22PM
I swear I saw the same mouse in one of the videos in the engadget Iphone review were he demonstrates the cameras object detection.
Tony C @ Jun 17th 2009 6:24PM
That you did sir! +1
Tony C @ Jun 17th 2009 6:23PM
Why for the lame Logitech sticker placement? Looks like someone just said "What about the logo?" "Hey, just put it anywhere!"
Tagbert @ Jun 18th 2009 12:15AM
It must have a non-stick surface and the logo is just sliding off at an angle or, yeah, an afterthought.
grweinstein @ Jun 25th 2009 11:31PM
It's not a sticker, it's a metal badge that's embedded into the plastic. Looks funky in the photo, but in "real life" it looks totally fine, sleek & substantial.
Abdel @ Jun 17th 2009 6:24PM
Can anyone tell what's the difference between a bluetooth mouse and the normal one I mean the wireless one that doesn't need bluetooth?
Tony C @ Jun 17th 2009 6:30PM
Besides both being wireless, they are different technologies. Bluetooth is an industry standard for interaction and communication between mice, keyboards, headsets, peripherals, handheld devices and then some. Most all notebooks (but not desktops) have Bluetooth available as an option or standard equipment.
Your standard RF wireless mouse is just that: a proprietary Radio Frequency device designed to communicate between Point A (your computer) and Point B (your mouse, sometimes a keyboard) and nothing else. Will always require an external dongle, whether USB or PS2.
LaughingMan @ Jun 20th 2009 3:37PM
I prefer bluetooth mice for use on notebook computers because they don't require a USB port to be used. Especially on my MacBook, those are in short supply typically.
radicaldreamer99 @ Jun 17th 2009 6:24PM
I have a VX nano which I use to death, but I'm kind of disappointed that the USB adaptor tends to bend the contacts eventually if you just leave it in a port (at least it did for my last laptop). I might consider picking this up at some point if the reviews are good. I'm really waiting for an updated wireless mighty mouse though.
Cash @ Jun 17th 2009 6:44PM
I'm in the same boat you are. Why did they decide to make this thing such a fugly downgrade?
I guess just making a bluetooth version of the VX Nano made too much sense for the guys in management.
Ellianth @ Jun 17th 2009 7:35PM
All they really need is a bluetooth version of the vx revolution... without the keyboard.
RyanTV @ Jun 17th 2009 8:18PM
@Ellianth YES - The VX Revolution is my favorite mouse... if I could get a BT version that would be perfect!
Too bad they will never do it. Logitech only makes the most homely of mice with BT.
adml_shake @ Jun 17th 2009 11:24PM
Good lord yes, I have the same mouse and I'm itching to get rid of that USB adapter and get a bluetooth version. Or hell why not just give all your mice the nano reciever if your not going to go bluetooth. I'd settle for that too.
Kelmon @ Jun 18th 2009 3:31AM
@RyanTV
Same here. I changed to the VX Revolution from the ill-fated Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse. It's a lovely mouse to use with a notebook (perfect size and no silly recharging station) but I wish that there was a Bluetooth version of it so I didn't have to muck about with a damned RF dongle. The M555b has me interested but its not going to be as good as the VX Revolution.
Still, nice to see another Bluetooth model hitting the market and hopefully this indicates that more will be coming.
Sheynk @ Jun 18th 2009 3:48AM
another vote for the vx revolution bt .... i love mine but using the usb adapter ruins the whole mac experience for me :-(
ZSX @ Jun 18th 2009 4:13AM
I have a VX Nano which rocks. Apart from the colour, this mouse looks identical, although it will lack the USB receiver of course. Very tempted to get it, but wish Logitech would give us middle click again, and make software to enable the Expose-like button work in Linux.
Elvite @ Jun 17th 2009 6:32PM
I wonder if it would work with a PlayStation 3? That would be cool.
Oblique @ Jun 17th 2009 6:37PM
This is the same mouse Joshua T had in his iphone 3gs review.
Karl @ Jun 17th 2009 7:12PM
I just want a Logitech Marble Mouse (trackball) with a scroll wheel. :-(
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 17th 2009 7:30PM
Does it fix the lag when the mouse wakes up from sleep? It's my only beef with Bluetooth mice (other Apple's crummy 1-button mouse which seems to avoid it).
Russ @ Jun 17th 2009 7:34PM
I'm surprised there aren't more Bluetooth mice available. Nearly all laptops sold have Bluetooth connectivity and dongles are a huge pain. I'm using a Sony VGP-BMS77 Bluetooth rechargeable mouse, which I would probably recommend over this Logitech model. Although it costs slightly more, the rechargeable battery is much lighter than typical AA batteries, making it great for traveling.
Joshua @ Jun 17th 2009 8:13PM
i use the microsoft bluetooth 5000 mouse. about the same size as this mouse, i dislike the scroll wheel but it has been very good at working in different surfaces, although battery lasts only 2.5 months for daily usage
David @ Jun 17th 2009 7:43PM
about time. sheesh .. when did logitech last release a new product? 2 years ago when the revolution mice came out?
zomoo11 @ Jun 17th 2009 9:32PM
I think I'm gonna by one of these :)
DustoMan @ Jun 17th 2009 10:34PM
Oh WOW! I thought that Logitech had given up on making Bluetooth mice. In the words of Engadget... SOLD!
D @ Jun 17th 2009 11:22PM
i would NOT buy another Lousytech until they offer international warranty and timely/response support. Adios Lousytech.
Richard Glitter @ Jun 18th 2009 1:55AM
On something like this, how much do you *really* need a warranty and support?
Logitech is pretty decent stuff, low failure rate.
It's only 50 bucks.
I have owned like 15 different logitech wireless mice and keyboards over time and only one has ever had an issue. It was a wireless mouse that overheated on the charger base and stopped working. Only issue I've had with many many logitech devices. I didn't cry about the warranty I just bought a new one.
In fact, I have a diNovo keyboard and have beat the hell out of it and it keeps on ticking.
albi @ Jun 18th 2009 2:19AM
logitech has better quality than even apple product imo
Kelmon @ Jun 18th 2009 3:35AM
Fair enough - all manufacturers should ensure that a suitable support/service process is in place in all markets where their products are sold. If you've had a bad experience in the past then you should feel entitled to have reservations about buying something else from the same company.
Robin Rath @ Jun 17th 2009 11:31PM
I heard it works on iPhones with 3.0
Rusty @ Jun 18th 2009 12:30AM
I had planned over a year ago to get a BT mouse, but, logitech came out with the VX NANO which
solved the problem of accidentally BREAKING the USB transmitter. The nano transmitter has been in my laptop for well over a year, without a problem. Why bother fiddling with getting a BT mouse to work unless you "need?" 1000dpi resolution.
Matt @ Jun 18th 2009 1:22AM
Does it not lag after waking up from power saving mode? My logitec V740 does, and it's annoying.
Matt @ Jun 18th 2009 1:22AM
That should be V470. I can't type.
Troels C @ Jun 18th 2009 1:44AM
I wish they didn't nickel plate their scroll wheels :-\
Garst @ Jun 18th 2009 2:03AM
If this doesn't have the lag that the Logitech MX5000 BT mouse, I'm sold. But could someone tell me where the other two buttons are?
albi @ Jun 18th 2009 2:20AM
i guess, wheel tilt left and right?
Mike @ Jun 18th 2009 5:16AM
finally, a new mouse that is bluetooth to go with my macbook.
but too bad its form factor looks similar to the apple mighty mouse (too flat to be ergonomic for a hand). why isn't there a decent bluetooth mouse out there?!!
