Veho's Muvi adventure-oriented camcorder claims to be world's smallest, probably isn't
It's outrageous claim time again, with Veho is saying its new Muvi micro DV camcorder is "officially the smallest high resolution DV camcorder in the world." We'd have to say it looks a little bit bigger than that Wrigley's-sized model we spotted a few years back, and 640 x 480 is hardly high resolution, but let's move on. The Muvi is designed as something of an actiony cam in the vein of a Twenty20 or a ContourHD, able to clip to your jersey or stick to your helmet and record video plus two megapixel stills onto a microSD card. Voice activation means you should be able to activate it without pressing any buttons, and hopefully you can teach it to start filming whenever someone says "Hold my beer and watch this." The cam appears to be shipping to European adventure-types for a good bit less than its £79.99 ($132) MSRP, but there's no word on when thrill-seekers elsewhere can clip one on.
Update: Well, it definitely isn't the smallest; as many of you pointed out this is just a re-brand of the AEE Mini DV cam that's exactly the same size... and shape... and is already widely available for under $100.

Tim Stevens claims to be journalist.. probably isn't.
These have been on sale badged as AEE for a while now - I bought one a couple of months ago. Great fun!
in fact - from engadget:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/18/aee-boasts-that-its-new-mini-dv-camera-is-the-worlds-smalles/
I am buying one of these.
why?
1) Car Dash Cam. (Sorry insurance company its over for you, %100 proof who did not stop at the light)
2) Bicycle Cam
3)Corrupt cops trying to make quota
4)I can become big brother in my own little world
5) Make own pron clips in risque locations!
Plumbing,
Even though your post was half-serious, (1) and (3) actually seem like useful applications.
That looks significantly smaller than the Wrigley's sized model mentioned. Look at 55 mm on a ruler. And that's a Micro SD slot, not a SD slot. It's really really small.
Smallest camera (with decent quality)?
I'd have one installed in my car for the just in case some arse hits me and tries to get out of it
The problem is that it's not a set-it-and-forget-it. After the 8GB fills up, you're probably going to have to erase the file. Probably multiple files since a Fat32 filesystem is limited to 4GB max file size.
Also you probably want it start running when the ignition on your car is turned off (and likewise, turn off when you stop your car).
So you probably want to wait until someone makes one with a loop mode (or at least "save last 30 seconds mode) and external start/stop. The problem is that the closest thing to that would be the VIO POV at over $600.
Yes, that is much much smaller then my other microcam, and looks a lot better especially with all the swivel arm action of the clip awesome!!!
here is a link to a lot more specifics and photos.

Meh, I got me a Flip Mino HD that I bought second hand on eBay for $150.
Plug it into a PS3 and bam, 720P video.
Is it waterproof? Downhillers need this ;)

Damn, I can't live the VEHO Lifestyle now that I find this cam has an internal (non-removable?) battery and is a rebranded cam, too!
I llike to muvi muvi
..like to..
Time to get a new keyboard :-(
am I the only one who thought it's somehow made by Veoh ?
It's not actually a DV camcorder at all. It doesn't use DV tapes, and doesn't record in DV data format. Dirty pool, marketroids.
In Germany this one is already available under the name 'Odys Mini Sporty DV':

I have one, not from this company though. I bought mine from another site called dynaspy.com. I paid a little too much for mine and should have found another place that sold it much cheaper. Mine did not come with all the accessories shown in the picture here. Ugh!!! It did come with the little soft black bag, a 2gig micro sd card, and all the computer and power plugs as well as the cd to install the drivers on my pc. That's about it. The 640 x 480 resolution is just okay, it's really not the best resolution obviously but, I am happy with it. I just wished the batter life was a bit longer. Two hours might not be enough. When I first tested it, the device records in 30min increments and creates and continues another 30min file where it left off. The size of the cam is small and really easy to use. The only drawback is when its recording, the little green led flashes. Not too noticeable but if you are "spying" on someone, it may be noticeable especially in the dark. I had to put my device in something and cut a pin hole to hide it. And it worked believe it or not. Still, it's a great little gadget and I'm having fun with it.
I want one of this to put in on my Radio Controlled Aircraft!!!!
Yaeeee!
Rayan
trojan magnum rubbers have that type of image on the box to say that they fit 55mm as well, of course they stretch...
You can get the exact same camera unbranded but WITH the mount kit for the same price here: http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/md80s-peanut-sports-camera.htm
Also, their specs are WAY off.
It does 640 x 480 at 19fps not 30fps
And it is sound activated, meaning it will start recording when it hears a sound.
Voice activated start/stop would be stretching the truth somewhat.
