As far as the Acer and Gateway comment: Gateway bought Packard Bell around 2004. Acer later bought Gateway whom also had a stake in emachines. Most of this took place around August 2007 making Acer a global power house to become the 3rd ranked computer maker in the US and globally.

I may have made a small mistake. I'm tired. I have owned a Gateway and Acer laptop and have been pretty happy with them both. I currently own an HP tablet pc.
