Sony's reaction to low sales: increase price.
Its an old upscale retail trick. Not selling well? Raise the price. High price gives the appearance of exclusivity and appeals to people's egos which is what the high end market is all about.
I say its genius and a damn good business move... if you can get away with it. Crust up crap with gold and crystals and sell it on to self absorbed suckers.
Hm, I had been looking at the VAIO P, but my main problem was, it's just too cheap! Now that Sony has made this expensive model, I'll order one of my servants to purchase it posthaste.

I will never buy sony again after my experience with the VGN AR series. The build quality is amazingly crappy.
There is no way I'm in the market for somethig like this and from the pictures I think it looks gaudy... but there are those for whom the cost is no issue.
I don't think that Sony plans to sell a boatload of these but they probably did their research to find that there is a small market that would go for it and they are catering to that small market.
Sony is so out of touch. I really think someone is in there sabotaging the company.

That's really expensive, but then again it's cheaper than a $5,000 gucci handbag that doesn't have an LCD screen. They're both targetted at people who have enough money not to care about cost... sigh.
Sony has always had uber-expensive upper tier products that sometimes aren't sold in the US. But this is just ridiculous. I can only imagine Kim Jong il wanting one of these. In fuchsia.
Actaully Sony always does that, iirc at start Sony got some designers to work on some sleeves for the P and they were planned to go at 1000 usd each. At that point even Sony figured out that might be a bit to expensive. Eitherway no Sony laptop goes by without atleast 1 expensive version, weather its tasteful put aside they do it. And sure.. the avarage geek might not be the one who is interested it does sell in central Tokyo/Dubai/Moscow where ladies care less about the costs and more about the appearal.
Eitherway they might not sell like cakes they still sell and producing a different shell requires minimum effort and the payback is quite on the contrary.
Hopefully they used real animals. Talk about being recyclable!

it's got enought horsepower to surf and do email. FOr the people who would buy this they don't need more than that. If they did they would be looking at a Vaio T instead.
The Signature Trims are actually a free add on to the laptop if you customize one from the ground up. Just sayin. I think Im in love with Brown croc CR.
