Whats the difference between ssd and harddrive?
Erik, solid state is faster & more expensive then a hard disk drive. It's also less prone to mechanical break down (what with the no-moving-parts), but it has a limited number of times it can be written to.

More or less correct, although the limited writes is never going to be an issue, realistically. You did forget to mention that SSDs use less power and are silent.
It's 256 GB, not MB.

It indeed has no moving parts, so the real difference between SSD and HDD is that SSD uses flash storage (just like memorysticks for example). On the contrary, an HDD uses a (glass?) disc spinning around to read from and write to and thus is more prone to mechanical breakdowns.
I did the math- when you order a macbook pro with the same specs from apple, you end up with a $4,250 computer. So these folks just added the fancy finish and a "limited edition" label for $1,750.

U can send ur own rig/pmp/phone/console to them, it's cheaper that way, get a red MacBook or a yellow and blue zune or a pink blackberry with white buttons

If I only had the cash! I certainly would pay the price for the 17" MacBook Pro but I'd take a pass on the SSD!
I'd rather have a 7200RPM - 500GB instead of an SSD any day, I'm not a gamer so i wouldn't need the speed. Plus ever since I got rid of my LAST TRUE MAC, a 17" PowerBook G4 1.67GHz and splurged on my Dell XPS M1210's, M1710 and M1730 I didn't think I'd ever want a PowerBook/MacBook Pro ever again until I saw this.

What is soooooo not affordable here? This is pretty much a standard price for Apple xxxPro products here in Europe. If I bought this black book in the US, I'd pay pretty much the same as I would for a regular MBP (with the same specs of course)...

Well to correct a few statements which obviously made no references... This is far from double the price. Apple charges about 4300 for this machine, and plenty of people pay that gladly. Colorware charges about 700 to completely repaint a 15 inch MBP and about 300 to refinish the screen to matte which is sadly no longer offered from Apple. So assuming the "SofTouch" coating cost a little extra, they are charging you less than 700 to have the bragging rights of being one of 10 people in the world with this. Oh and I really don't understand why anyone would complain about the SSD? Whats wrong with a faster, more durable drive. Personally I love the matte black, and if I had the money I'd buy one.

I got to say, this is really cheap: If I were to buy this in Denmark with the same specs (minus the matte screen) the price is $5782.39.
So that's a little over $200 for the paint job and a matte screen.
It's the ugliest most expensive MacBook I've ever seen. I don't want to bring this around and people would start to think that my Macbook is discontinued or knock-off MacBook Pro design. I want my MacBook just like the way Apple design it, because they are the best on it. Why other companies try to fix the perfect design of Apple and try to sell it for premium with their custom color. Colorware who? They want to put their name on my stuff and I still have to pay premium for that? Now Way! 256MB is the most terrible MacBook Pro in the market.

Only a complete tool would make a purchasing decision based on what "people would start to think"
In the US the computer is $4300 from Apple with those specs. If you were to send in your current MacBook top ColorWare to have that paint job it's another $869. Thats a total of about $5200. But thats a shiny black with a Matte screen. If you want the matte MacBook like this then its another $800 which brigs the total price to $6000.

You could buy macbook pro spec'd like that for 4249, send it to colorware for a regular black + matte finish job for 819, and save almost a thousand bucks on it. As far as I can tell only thing you'll be missing on is a black trackpad and the softouch finish. Oh and of course if you don't want the SSD you could save another $600. Seems like a much better deal to me overall.
This also has a matte screen, which add another few hundred to the cost.
