Video: New Palm Pre ad takes serene approach, just goes with the flow
When we last saw this fair-faced Pre spokesperson, she was sitting on a rock in an otherwise open field playing choreographer to a sea of robed individuals encircling her. This latest ad takes a decidedly simpler approach reminiscent of the vibe set in the Meet the Pre series, though we can't say for sure her if her followers aren't just waiting off-camera for the next directive. Also, interesting choice of onomatopoeia for sliding through the webOS cards, we imagine there's a certain, Redmond-based company out there delighted by the subtle (and probably unintentional) reference. See the ad for yourself after the break -- and in case you're wondering, that song that'll be stuck in your head all day is "Doot Doot" by Freur.

I, for one, am glad to see the gradual acceptance of people with disabilities in mainstream advertising. Good for Palm.
take 2 hits of Acid and press play...
Stupid commercial, And Who the eF says "bing, bing, bing" anyway?
C'mon Palm, I love your phone but don't make me look like a dumbass with your suckass marketing.
Perhaps they may have more luck if they named it Palm Disappointment.
I had this phone and it's a frustrating to use hunk of plastic.
...sounds like iD10T errors to me.
@Look_Around_You
The commercials aren't meant to be "Analyzed". They are all about initial-reaction for the General Public.
It's the idiots like yourself who are the sole reason commercials like this get created.
The ad was OK. Its not intended for geeks, its supposed to bring in those that are thinking about their first departure from just a plain ol phone. In that I think it did a fair job. As for the girl, she is super fine!
Sorry to say but this is really poor advertising, it doesn't even show half of the things this phone is capable of..... terrible.
its not intuitive... and "driving" its even less...come on...
I'm serious, my entire family was creeped out by this commercial. That girl.... she is so pale! And her voice is.... so deep and bland! The girl would have been considered beautiful and noble during the Renaissance period, but this is 2009! Girls like her scare people! I get that this ad was simple, like Palm's other ad. But simple + scary faced girl = commercial in which no one cares about the product because they can't stop thinking about how creepy that girl was!
I PREferred their PREvious choreographed advertising PREsentation. This lady has no PREdicament stopping her flow, so the idea that going with the flow is easy on the PRE is a bit PREsumptuous.
Quite likely she is PREparing to get a P(R)Edicure.
I see you have a PREdisposition to these type of words. So what's PREventing her from imPREssing her will on us? Nevermind... I see you answered that question PREviously in your post.
Presto! A prelude, a precentor presents a precocial predator, preserving the preponderance of its predecessors, precisely preengineered, prefocused on perfection, for preeminent personalities with predeveloped prefontal cortices. Predestined to preside and prevail with prestige.
Prejudiced pretentious prepubescent preservers of the presumably predominant precedent, once held precious, preconciously yet pressingly and persistently present premonitions, preconcieved predictions of its preclusion from the game. Precancel your preorders of the precancerous iPhone, promoter of petty prettification.
Presented to you in a pretty precession. You may call me Pre.
excellent responses, guys :)
I really like my Pre and all, but I really don't like that ad..
'#1 I dont have a Pre.
#2 I study advertising and marketing. I learned to actually watch ads a bit differently than the 95% of people that grunt "ugh, it suck" or "ugh, it rocks", and think they made a brilliant observation. So excuse me if my response doesn't fit so neatly into a soundbite verdict. It doesn't make me cooler than you, I'm just not a passive recipient of advertising.
#3 the advertisement isn't "sub par". That's just another one-dimensional verdict. Palm has a theme and are sticking to it. There is a demo that this appeals to. Professional, and college age women is the most obvious. Moderate to high income urban males is the second.
The ad may not appeal to you, ok. However, ads aren't mad to win or lose like it is a game, but only to target and appeal. This does that.'
Surely you don't study advertising and marketing to go against the public majority in what you think is a good ad?
Surely, a good ad is what the public majority think is a good ad?
If people say its a shit ad, it's shit, and it won't sell the product.
'ads aren't mad to win or lose like it is a game'
If they lose, whats the point of an ad?
Ads are made to win.
So they can sell products.
Not to be analyzed by some virgin boy sat in his tighty whities defending crap ads just because he can 'see the point.'
A shit ad is a shit ad, with or without a point.
They're made to win.
You however, were made to lose.

I cannot believe that I have to discuss this with some idiot that think some comments on a message board actually constitutes " the public majority".
Seriously, you dont have a clue about advertising or marketing, that is why you GET SOLD TO, because YOU DONT THINK, you react.

Wow. That was just awesome. How can you refute 7th grade rebuttals like that. When you are open to a big boy discussion, feel free to reply anytime.
Actually, being from England, I have a-levels in advertising. I'm also MCP and MCDST certified, A+ and Network+. I'm more qualified than you'd ever dream of.
Everyone I've seen who knows the advert doesn't get it and doesn't like it.
Stop thinking you're gods gift cause you're studying advertising.
It's crap. End of.
It doesn't even say it's a phone.
I've seen many iphone users that look just as high and creepy so the Pre is definitely going with the flow.
Wow, I didn't plan on watching the commercial, but after all the comments, I felt like I had to see what all the fuss was about.
You guys are seriously hypersensitive or something.
A girl? With very fair skin? Talking in a voice that's not all high and squealy? Oh noez, scaryyy!!
Seriously, get thee to a public place and see that not all people look and sound the same.
However, I do have to agree that she looks like she'd be related to Macaulay Culkin.
dude enuf man...i think we have all had enuf of ur attitude...ppl are
just stating their opinions and if they choose to poorly back it up u
can just laugh to urself about it...u dont have to be a dick to
everyone...nobody likes a dick (accept that lady in the vid!)
@Quix
"Look_Around_You's agenda is consistently pro-Microsoft and anti-Apple (*rabidly* anti-Apple). That said, it's interesting to hear him defend a decidedly bad Palm commercial when Microsoft isn't even involved."
Yes because I go around saying how much Apple's products "suck" and that you should not use them because Microsoft's are better and that you should only used products from MS, right? I constantly post stuff like "MS rulz" and "iPods are for gays".
Funny because I dont remember ever doing any of those things, and you seem to be unable to prove that I do. Yet you lie and say so, even though people like you, and Paul A. or b. Chapel, and others, do this daily.
Now when it comes to those childish fanatics like you who happen to do these things in the name of Apple, yes I cant stand those freaks. And most people here seem to not care for them either judging by how many times their BS is low ranked time after time.
Just awful
Creepiest woman I've ever seen.
So, how bright is this thing and can it be turned off or dimmed? Hope someone comes up with a way to let it show status updates or twitter entries.
This ad is one of the most ambiguous product ads I have seen to date. It's no wonder 10 people showed up during launch for this product.
It is creepy and i thought i was the only one who thought this way, shes like a ghost or unhealthy looking in the lighting. Apples commercials show you exactly what the iphone can do and you dont eve see a person in the video. It just works and shows me exactly what it does. i still dont know what the pre does or what it can do based on commercials.
I think that perhaps we're missing the point.
This ad is not for techno geeks like us. It is clearly targeted to women.
And I can see that it actually appeals to them.
And I think it is a smart move to advertise the Pre as 'zen', as the one thing that smoothly brings your whole life together.
Although I also think it is not as strong a message as 'there is an app for everything'.
this could easily be a tampon commercial
here's another one:

Not shit Really?
I... didn't think the commercial was that bad. It advertises the Pre's multitasking which is pretty much "bing, bing, go." Of course, the 14 yr old boys on this website won't like this commercial, but it's not like they pay attention to advertising anyway.
Does she remind anyone else of a android? She seems like a weird mix of Data and iRobot. CREEPY.
I don't see anything wrong with this ad. Pretty girl, music is lame but still appropriate, basically a similar message as those Mac vs. PC smear ads that Apple puts out - "you know, everything just kinda works with a mac".
This ad gives me 90s vibes
I have no big issue with her nor with her look nor with the commercial although the bing-bing-bing is a bit ruining the effect, but the idea is to be noticed and ruining the effect a bit is what you'd want to achieve not slipping away from notice, and so the bings bring it back together.
Now if I was watching TV and its ads and saw it 100 times, yeah then I'd hate her guts as much as the next person admittedly, but that's how they operate most of the time, annoy you knowing you forget the details but the brand is burned in your mind and when you are at the shop the brand sounds familiar and therefore a safe buy, sigh.
These are the worst commercials ever.
Is this supposed to be subliminal Microsoft advertising as well? Maybe they figure since Google is already in bed with Apple, they'll try to get Bing on their side.
That albino chick is gonna give me nightmares. She reminds me of the end of Vanilla Sky.
I don't like the phone, I think Sony Ericsson do a much better line. Take this walkman, for example:
http://eu.dubli.com/Sony-Ericsson-W995__5_13078
I don't need a phone that can tell me directions! I do like a phone that makes calls, has some games, and can play me music when I feel like it. Also, I got this phone real cheap off the above website :)
Where's it all going to end? TARDIS technology? Guess it would be cool if it was like a Star Trek communicator, but I guess we're going to have to wait on that a while longer....
so...i learned from this commercial that the pre...flows?
like a liquid?
and also as the light turns green, you should, instead of paying attention to the road, use your phone?
now I'm really confused
She looks high-fashion to me. There's some certain quality that makes the ad.. timeless.. If that makes sense..
And she's so ethereal. So dreamy..
Honestly that's how I feel flicking the cards on Palm Pre.. very satisfying experience.
Remember when this chick went all scary and tried to take the Ring off Frodo?
If "all the red lights ahead of you are turning green" it would sure be helpful to have bluetooth voice dialing so you wouldn't have to nearly wreck your ethereal vehicle on the sublime street while looking down at your Palm Pre to dial. Hello!? Palm? Are you listening?
made me wanna pee
The Palm what? Oh ya I heard they released a new device........
They're clearly copying Apple (ba-da-bing-bing-bing -- oops sorry broken record -- bada...

Don't think of it as a creepy commercial for a smartphone. Think of it as royalty checks for Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, who will use the money to make more awesome Underworld records.
The Pre is supposed to be inspired by a polished river stone, the kind you can find on Zen garden.
The commercial is supposed to be an allegory to that, a zen space, peaceful and quiet.
The whole phone design including the UI is based of that, a remainder of a simple yet functional space.
I believe the actress is Tamara Hope.
