Updated Dell Inspiron 13 appears on Dell Singapore site -- and it looks kinda hot
We can't say we've ever found the Inspiron 13 particularly compelling, but there's a new model up on the Dell Singapore site right now and we're this close to falling in love -- it's thinner and lighter, takes some nice design cues from the Inspiron Mini and Studio lines, and the configuration with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics costs just S$1,399 ($962). Oh, and there's also an LED-backlit 1366 x 768 display, HDMI / VGA out, an ExpressCard/34 slot, and 1394 -- pretty great for under a grand. We're on pins and needles waiting for official US pricing information: not only do we expect it to be slightly lower, you just know Dell will be blowing these things out when back-to-school rolls around.

The $1400 is the price in Singaporean dollars.
Its 1400 singapore dollars and 962 US dollars...
Not really that great when you think about the hp ProBook 4710s which gives you 500 instead of 320GB of storage, 2,55 GHz instead of 2,4, 17 inch 1600x900 resolution instead of 13 inch 1366x768, and 4GB of RAM instead of 2 for around $50-70 bucks more.
how is that even remotely in the same range of laptops. this is a post about an ultraportable notebook in the sub-4lb range, not a 7lb monolith with 30min battery life that never leaves the desk.

Ugh.
I freaking hate 16:9, but I guess I'm just one of the handful of freaks who prefers vertical space to horizontal. 1280x800 would've been awesome.
Totally with you. I've been looking around for a portable/ultraportable coding machine: no optical drive, lots of vertical resolution, ideally reasonable cpu. Can't find anything.
No BREAK key?? PASS!!!
I recently purchaced a Dell Studio 15 but only discovered it too had no BREAK key after I got it. grrr...
Why do I need a break key?... Because CTRL-ALT-BREAK is the keyboard shortcut to toggle remote desktop between full-screen and windowed modes. Its a super convenient shortcut if you're a keyboard jokey.
Switch to VNC.
Dell Really Sucks!
seems kind of expensive compared to the studio 14z which starts at $699. yeah this processor and graphics chipset is better but $300 seems a little overpriced.
Damn it, Dell again does this with a 16:9 screen.
I checked at Dell on availablity. First they denied there was a new version, then after awhile they admitted they knew about it, but have no idea on when it will be available in the US. For me the 1lb less weight alone is worth the weight. Airports have long walks these days and every pound less on my shoulder helps. Now how do we find out when this is available??? Hate to keep checking their website all the time...
