HP Mini 5101 netbook approved for use by mini executives
The Mini 5101, or Mini Executive as HP would have it, is now available to purchase, with prices starting at $399.99. While still a netbook at heart, the 5101 has an impressive array of accoutrements: aluminum and magnesium shell for lightweight (2.64 lbs) sturdiness, flat chiclet keyboard, 10.1-inch LED-backlit display, and at an extra cost, 128GB SSD and 1366 x 768 resolution upgrade options. The build quality and keyboard got high marks from us when we handled the machine back in June, and now a couple of online scribes have put together timely in-depth reviews of the device. They share the impression that HP has a strong business product on its hands, highlighted by a class-leading WiFi signal of 37.7 Mbps at 15 feet, though they were also concerned that neither pricing nor battery life (between 5 and 7 hours) are the best available. Hit up the read links for all the delectable details.

That thing looks pretty sweet.
That's one damn sexy netbook.
Does it still have the same impossible to use tiny track pad as the HP Mini?
I've been using the 2133 since it was released with no problem and I have large hands.
THe trackpad looks rather small, but at least the buttons are in the right place this time.
Does she have the Win 7 upgrade?
802.11n and Gigabit ethernet are great. I have not seen many netbooks come with gigabit ethernet. However, yet another GMA950 crap.
Somehow I think this looks quite sexy. Get rid of that legacy VGA port though. Might as well slap a parallel port on there, too.
I'd guess the projector system in most meeting rooms still connect via VGA even today. It'll be around for a while yet in the corporate environment as it's good enough.
A Vaio Z reborn?
this from HP!
the HP Number One notebook seller Worldwide!
I totally see where you're coming from. My first thought was like a mini version of my Vaio T =D I have the TT now, but I do miss the design of the TZ
Just need that 6 cell battery option now :]
Bet ya that SSD upgrade is as expensive as the laptop itself and that huge border around the screen isn't so attractive.
my exact thoughts. it would be a lot sexier if the screen went edge-to-edge. but then it might not be considered a 'netbook'.
Give it a 12" screen and make it $100 more expensive and you have a winner. And bigger profit margins probably too, given that a 12" screen costs way less than $100. With a 12" screen it would make a fantastic sub-notebook.
Whether or not anything can be called a netbook doesn't interest me in the least. Price and specs count. The name doesn't.
Aaaaaah! And I bought the 2140 just a few weeks ago... :(
2140 is discontinued (very short lived product from HP)
But I still like it :D
sssseeexxxyyyy
Very tasty looking - provided it doesn't have the longevity issues that plague other HP netbooks.
the only letdown is the thick bezel. they could have made it an 11incher device.
i hope they would release a standard 6cell battery and a g/n wifi variant in the SKU.
Any idea on if this will be available in the UK?
You can get the 2140 direct from HP still (with the crappy 576 screen), but i can't see this listed yet on the hp.co.uk site.
WHY is the LCD not the FULL size of the lid??? Why waste the space? Fuck a netbook till they keep it efficient.
i have a HP Mini 1000 and love. they make some of teh best netbook hardware. now to quiet this pesky fan.
is the 5101 touchscreen compatible, will it come with windows 7?
no HDMI yet? of course the price is higher than those not-very-usable WSVGA netbooks, wait for deal
Very pretty!
Still waiting out til hdmi out and nvidia ion.
Why an inch long border? They could make the screen much bigger in the same footprint and make it much more desirable.
Another one? I might as well wait until there's one with a 10" screen to drop under $200
That looks like Macbook's keyboard, down to the exact font.

Exactly so! I was thinking if a black MacBook got shrunk in the dryer, it would look just like this HP netbook.
Wow, that is a good looking netbook. I'm almost willing to forgive the fact that its GMA950.
Well, I've been waiting to order one for several months, but where on earth are the high def options?!? HP?
Hackintoshable please????
