Video: life-altering 3D projection gets splashed on German building
It's not often that we take time to highlight the creativity and innovation involved in an artistic projection, but this one excited a few too many nerve endings to pass up. The latest in a long line of fantastical wall splashings comes to us courtesy of Urbanscreen, who has designed a downright mesmerizing 3D projection to "dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O.M. Ungers' Galerie der Gegenwart. The project is entitled "How it would be, if a house was dreaming," and it's without a doubt one of the most amazing spectacles you'll see in the next six to ten minutes. Hop on past the break to have your skepticism put to rest, your world view changed forever and your hope in humanity temporarily restored.

Up next: The Berlin Wall!
Very cool, but it became less cool when I realized that the crowds you could hear in the background were a recording straight out of the computer game 'theme park'.
was expecting to hear that annoying coughing noise when ever people start throwing up...followed by
"ewww" "ewww" "ewwww"
gotta go repair that bouncy castle...
Whoa it is, good call. I would have never noticed, haha
Exactly what I thought, I know them from rollercoaster tycoon.
'heh heh heh he hurrrr'
Do you mean Rollercoaster Tycoon? Well that's what I thought anyway...brings back so much memories :)
Great video and concept but as soon as I realized the crowd sounds were pulled from RCT I was a little disappointed.
BRAVO!!!!
The crowd sound effects are canned. But awesome video none-the-less.
I think it's funny that they used canned crowd sounds to the video. Why?!
from the read link:
"there was a band playing close to the place so we had problems using the original sound of the event in full length.
We used parts of the original crowd sounds and added atmosphere of a sound library.
unfortunately these sounds were also used by a game developer - as you all seemed to notice. We are working on changing this."
I guess it's part of the whole messing with reality thing? *shrug*
@rabidfurball
Yeah yeah, sure, there was a band playing, so we decided to add an american crowd sound to enhance the german crowd, which you cannot hear at all, and coincidentally it's the same as a game, it's not like they had that file on their computer in their games folder, no it's coincidence.
All's fair in art and war I guess and I hope they aren't sued for using crowd sounds without permission, it's art after all and I think you are allowed to use elements of copyrighted stuff in art according to the law.
one the coolest thing I saw this month! :)
Why are people leaving the middle of the show?
The euros don't get excited so easily, it's why people left it and made america and australia and such.
pretty cool
This is absolutely amazing. Wish I could see it up close.
In China, they would do this by hand, just like in the opening of the 2008 Olympics.
Project by hand, hmm
ummm lol... what?
do you mean a mass flip card thing. you do know china didn't invent that. You do know that chinese people can't project DLP light out of their eyes.. last time I checked anyways.
In Soviet Russia, ......
I felt like I was playing Roller Coaster Tycoon during the whole movie. Which made the video 78% feel more fake.
i heard bits from RCT sound track or sound effects. There is definitely some tracking going on.
I knew it. Those crowd sounds sounded familiar.
Trippy!
someone please explain how!? the website on the read link is in german :(
you can change the languagein the upper right.
but it seems to just that short text and they only say that the projection is customied for the building with special measurement.
Couldn't find any more information about the technology in german.

What the hell ar eyou talking about 'you can change the language in the upper right", I see no such option.
Well I looked at the source and there is indeed a language option on a mouse-over, but I don't see it, guess my blockers work, but having found it manually I'll give you the english link:

No translate.google required you see.
lol... Rollercoaster Tycoon crowd dubbing ftw
That was superb, but the guy recording the video needs a smack, too much zooming in and out ruins the effect!
look at the first video in the link... http://www.urbanscreen.com/
pop projections.... it's the best 3d stuff I've ever seen
wow,incredible
More posts about buildings...and food!
Awesome concept of digital signage!!!
bad a
HOLY FUCK
thats cool, I'm curious how it looks when your not looking at it 100% dead-on, does it still look 3d or is the effect ruined?
I'm quite certain it was Roller Coaster Tycoon. But they probably use the same stock. :-)
I don't know, it's cool, but I prefer these projects:

The future of trompe-l'oeil.
That video lives up to the story title.
Life altering? come on. But it is a very cool video.
Clever idea.
Wow. I just wanted to shoot myself from having to hear the RollerCoaster Tycoon crowd sounds again. I used to hear them all the time, and stopped playing because of them and their horrible sound loop.
The video sucked. Sure the wall stuff is cool, but seriously... the sounds completely ruined it. Completely.
Why the hell did they use Roller Coaster Tycoon's crowd noises?
That's what she said
A great way to advertize the next "Jaws" movie.
Amazing!
Think about the street art possibilities!
From the phrase "3D projection" I was expecting more. . .um. . . 3D. This is only has correct perspective if you're viewing from the center. Hardly life altering, we've seen giant projections on buildings before.
Isn't this just basically a projection onto the wall? What's so special about this, other than looking awesome?
Anyway, this is the start of the death of signage!
Really well done. Inspiring.
LOL
so i'm not the only one who immediately noticed that the crowd sound FX were from roller coaster tycoon
man i wasted so many hours playing that game... and listening to that sound loop play over and over again.. good times
still though, sweet idea, and great design
This is located in Hamburg Germany....
Really impressive what is shown there. The best i ever saw :D
Need to see it in real
