Novatel Wireless launches MiFi 2372 with North American-loving, 3G WiFi goodness

Novatel's just announced its North American-friendly MiFi 2372 router with GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSPA. The Mifi 2372 will offer 7.2Mbps HSDPA sharing for up to five connections via WiFi. If you recall, the European, 900/1900/2100MHz version launched back in June, so we're happy to see it make its way to our shores at long last. The 2372 also boasts a GPS receiver and microSD card slot, and while there's no word on pricing or definite date of availability, we can assume it'll be offered on subsidy from AT&T and Rogers, and we hope that happens soon. Global HSPA Edition Brings Intelligent Mobile Hotspot Capability to Virtually Anywhere in the World
SAN DIEGO, Jul 28, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Novatel Wireless, Inc. Does anyone know of a box that lets you tether your phone to it which then provides a wifi hotspot? Basically, I want this minus the 3G radio, plus a USB port.
(This almost is what I want, but I don't want to give sprint another 60 bucks a month).

Cradlepoint rocks. I use mine all over the world.
There's also software for some phone platforms that let you just share out your 3G over wifi right from the phone. I know of one for Windows Mobile and for S60, don't know about other platforms, but i'm sure they exist if you poke around.

Love it. But only if a carrier starts offering a resonable rate with higher caps for the casual cell data user.

Still waiting to hear if this is AT&T or T-Mobile-USA 3G though. I'm willing to bet that "North American" means NAM, which seems to mean AT&T/Canadian ... but, still, a T-Mobile version would be kind of cool.

ya, but when you start downloading excessive amounts of information they will cancel your service for abusing your data plan.
buying one of these and using it with your iphone SIM is no different then running the mod on your ATT iPhone that allows theathering...why would you waste the money?

Verizon already sells an Ev-Do version of the exact same device.

Clueless. Why pay extra for this piece of HW when you can just buy a proper phone (any S60 with Wifi, E71, N97, etc.) and buy Joikuspot (www.joikuspot.com). for 15Eur you can get your phone to tether *and* share your network connection!
I wonder why these guys at Engadget don't cover this type of apps.... Geeezz, so much complaining and so little research...

You also "conveniently" forgot that you can't actually make phone calls with the MiFi, which means that you actually have to buy another phone or another contract, or both ;)
