Nikon Coolpix S1000pj to boast projector? Sure looks like it!

Now, we still can't be sure that this thing is legit -- but it's definitely starting to look more than likely. The rumor early this morning was that Nikon would be announcing a small digital camera with an LED projector in the very near future, with a shelf-date sometime in September -- the VP650. Well, now Photo Review has some shots of this supposed badboy. The Coolpix S1000pj will supposedly boast a projector capable of projecting an image up to up to 40 inches in size, with a remote control and projector stand as part of the package. The camera itself will be a 12.1 megapixel affair, with a 5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm wide-angle coverage -- with pricing at $699 AUD (that's about $587). Word is that VP650 was just a codename for the product, and we'd think we'll be hearing much, much more about this little dude in the very near future. There's one more shot to check out after the break.

lol?
wow, this definitely is a first!
damn you Az1Z. :)
When everybody hates it when people post, "first", why are you motivated to do it? Are you stupid, or just an ass? It has to be one or the other.
@CtrlBurn:
I'm pretty sure OneLove was aiming for the double meaning: first digicam with projector, and first post...
Too cool to link back to Nikon Rumors?
Whats with these LED projectors? Microvision's laser projector looks to be far ahead of these. Wish they would come to the market.
Yay! Engadget steals a Nikon Rumors' story and doesn't even link to them, nor has the intelligence to change the file name on the images! Yay!
Here, let me help.

Unless it was changed after your post, you fail, good sir. Click the 'Read' link. Takes you to nikonrumors.com
@Ian, they edited it in. Also the only people here that fail are all the pauls and the people that comment with 1 word.
We had a cache issue with the link. We would never do that on purpose. Should be fixed now.
what's next? a lighter and hook to weigh stuff?
Popcorn maker on the side?
No, what's next is, now you might want to sit down for this, but a camera that not only TAKES pictures, but PRINTS them OUT! I know. Crazy.
There have been cameras that would make prints as well, they were bulky, and expensive. think about what you're asking for...The camera would have to be as wide as the print you want.. i'm not carrying around an 9 inch wide camera that is like 2 inches thick. Even one that did 5x7's would be too bulky... they were a terrible idea then and a terrible idea now.
If I have to watch more Aston Kutcher commercials with him now using a pico projector, I'm gonna barf.
Did anyone read the ORIGINAL STORY?

It even says the price: $699 AUD (587.36 USD)
I wonder if it will let you record and project video at the same, enabling you to make your own version of this rather excellent White Stripes/Gondry video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh7UFi2b9xU
That's...actually not a bad idea. It really will depend on the quality of the projector but it may turn out to be a more convenient way of showing your pictures than trying to find your AV connectors in order to hook it up to a TV. It's certainly one of the more interesting ideas that I have seen in the camera world and beats the heck out the usual megapixel race.
This is a cool idea, if you want to show your pics to a group after just taking the pic, instead of everyone passing along the camera or crowding around you, you can project it somewhere for everyone to see, awesome....
Next thing is for it to project it flat at a certain feet from the camera with or without a wall. I hope...
i want (:
nice, thanks to xuxu0051's post, now I know where to get my KIRF apparel.
It also has a high-powered green laser pointer, printer, fax machine, copier, gps, and phone with internet access. It's nicknamed the Swiss Army Camera.
