Call it coincidence or call it fate, but just as soon as we saw Samsung's 11.6-inch N510 netbook
go on sale across the pond, ASUS' long-awaited 11.6-inch
Eee PC 1101HA has netted itself a date with UPS here on US soil. The machine is the first in the
Seashell range to boast a display larger than 11 inches, though the atypical WXGA (1,366 x 768) panel is about the only thing that'll turn heads. Within, you'll find an exceedingly bland array of parts: an Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM, GMA 500 integrated graphics, a 160GB hard drive (still with us?), three USB 2.0 sockets, a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth and audio in / out jacks. If you aren't down with waiting to see what kind of netbook revolution coincides with the launch of Windows 7, you can order yours up from the links below for $429.99.

At 11.6 inches, can't see how this is classified as a netbook. Minus it's other specs of course.
Darn, guess I'm classified as a netbook now too.
;)
lookofdisapproval, those are centimeters.. not inches...
I want dem tablet netbooks. Dey been promisin dem things.
I only want a "tablet netbook" if it's Wacom powered. Such would make the artist in me droooooooooool.
To sum up the comments this post will get:
"But it's not a netbook anymore with 11.6 inch."
"No Ion, no buy."
"Who buys netbooks anyway, nobody wants them."
"Needs to be $99!"
"Needs at least 4GB of RAM, a dual-core CPU, Ion, 500GB HD, HDMI!"
"The iTablet comes, who cares about that shitty Asus?"
"Who buys netbooks anyway, nobody wants them."
Many people by them as a secondary computer. They are constantly at the top of the best sellers (of the computers section) list at amazon.
That... about sum it up well.
Well with the GMA500 Graphics it wont make a Hackintosh :-( Just tore it off my list....
The keyboard isn't edge to edge? WTF?
My guess it that the keyboard has been recycled from one of their 10" models.
You're forgetting the "you can buy a 15.4" laptop for cheaper" comment
Damn, I knew there was another thing! lol
Theres an eeepc for that
Sounds pretty much like this at costco. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11482427&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US&s=1
I was just about to say the same thing. Noticed it at Costco for the last 2 or 3 months, so not really news.
What the performance consensus on GMA500 vs. the usual 950/945 we've been seeing in netbooks (which Intel has beat like a dead horse)? According to wikipedia the peak memory bandwidth is lower, but oh my does it support a good mix of hardware acceleration....

I LoL'ed LoudLy.

Eagerly waiting to see what this iPad / iTablet / iWhatever and Windows 7 Touch would bring to this boring, boring netbook space.
It also seems to be available in the UK as well at Amazon UK for £339 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002DR4KAY?ie=UTF8&tag=hl08-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B002DR4KAY
Its says it will ship in 1-2 months. BUT another seller on the site says they have it in stock.
I'd much rather get the 11.6" gateway netbook
Cheaper. 250gb hd. 2gigs ram. Faster AMD Athlon neo, ATI graphics. Made by Acer. Looks a lot better too IMO.
But at the sacrifice of battery life, from what I've read.
For those complaining that an 11.6" is not a netbook, I'd call anything with an Intel Atom processor in a laptop form factor a netbook, who cares how big the screen is, nothing to fear, manufacturers are still rolling out 10" netbooks like crazy, and they've all still got the same spec. Personally I'll take the extra resolution any day of the week. It's still lame that this uses the weaker Z processor though, I'm guessing this is due to Intel's restrictions for N-series pricing or similar.
This sounds like a very nice size, and its really a netbook as long as its cheaper and less powerful than the average laptop on the market imo. I just don't get why they put such a crappy processor in this one.
This is showing the death of cheap netbooks. Pretty soon you won't be able to buy one for under $399. Getting the larger screen is great, as well as the longer battery.
@Luffy - it's still a gateway. It might as well be an eMachines. No matter how much they charge I wouldn't buy one. Nothing but problems from Acer products (except a monitor I got from Staples). My 1001HE is a champ with a long battery of it's own. I would have held out for one of these seashells but I couldn't wait.
It's good to see this netbook available after two months of waiting.

if you're going to spam your netbook site, you should at least do your research before posting a comment. The acer aspire one 11.6" is available at Costco for $349.99, and I wouldn't be surprised if it hits $299 by Tgiving/Xmas.
Hmm, i may have been a bit harsh with my comment, especially since stuff like the Acer Timeline 1810 is taking the netbook market into a more premium segment. Nonetheless, as long as the Atom exists, manufacturers wouldn't dare price 10-11.6 inch netbooks at anything higher than $350-400 after 3-6 months of being on the market.
I think the larger netbooks like this are going to continue to be a small category. Especially since Microsoft will only license Windows 7 starter edition on devices with screens 10" or below.
