Intel still won't talk Core i5 details, but you can order one anyway
It's been a long, strange road for the Core i5 series of processors, first announced way back in March not by Intel, but by a motherboard spec sheet. Since then we've seen rebranding talk, lots of grids of various colors, and a delay purely for selfish reasons. Intel still isn't saying how much they'll cost or when they'll ship, but that's okay, because retailers have answered the first question and given us reason to believe the answer to the second is "soon." Two computer hardware sites confirm that the Core i5 570 will have a 2.66GHz clock speed and sport 8MB of cache, matching expectations for this new mass-market processor, and the prices (as low as $233) are a fair bit cheaper than a comparably spec'd but higher performing Core i7. Mind you, both of those retailers list the chip as being out of stock, but we're sure if you're so inclined they'd be happy to put you down for a pre-order.

Does AMD sell more processors than Intel??
OVER 9000!!!!!!
intel bait and switch.
there was an Engadget article about AMD selling its 500 millionth processor in which Intel comments that they reached that mark awhile ago.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/24/amd-parties-hard-after-shipping-500-millionth-x86-processor/
Now AMD is much younger than Intel, so on a yearly basis, they might have the upper hand, I don't know. My guess is it changes with each new release.
AMD will never get anywhere near intel unless they take the mobile CPU market seriously
Laptops is selling more than desktops "at least last 2 years" and AMD have no offering for notebooks
for the last 3 years they made 3 platforms for notebooks one got canceled and 2 of them were for ULTRA thin laptops which is super weak cpu for standard mainstream laptop, It's the same reason why Intel charge 600$ for 2.900 dual core 2 and plan to charge 1000$ for the 2.000 quad core i7 they plan to release this fall 400$/600$/1000$ "1.6GHZ/1.7GHZ/2.0GHZ"
We need AMD back or intel will keep stealing your money, desktop users need to thank god that AMD still matter on the desktop matter , if they didnt Intel core i7 920 would have costs us 1000$ instead of 200-300$
Aren't they supposed to be under the i7 in performance? It goes i3, i5, i7?
Yes, it's like the BMW lineup. You have a low range 3-Series, the mid-range 5-Series, and the flagship 7-Series.
In other news, Intel will be releasing the Core i1-series, the Core x5-series, and the Core m3-Series...
@John Doe - Not even close really.
Those cores are a bunch of batty men.

What was the point of this post? That we still don't know much? Thanks for the update...
Anandtech posted an interesting analysis of the upcoming Lynnfield line of CPUs - http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3570&p=11. In his view the LGA-1156 will replace the LGA-775 as Intel's new midrange line up (dual and quad core).
I love that centrino is just off in the corner like it doesn't matter anymore, even though they could've just put centrino 2, which is relatively new and just as relevant as all other intel platforms out right now.
I know what you mean, also shouldn't the i5 be off to the side since no one from the Intel side will talk about it? Makes more sense, lol. Also doesn't it look like the Centrino is talking to someone, look at the brown sleeve up against the Centrino's jacket.
Yeah I never noticed the brown sleeve there either...
Actually the only i5 (launching next month) will be the i5-750, not the i5-570. Distribution cost will be $199.00 so the $233.00 at e-tailer shops sound about right.
centrino needs a hug... somebody hug centrino :(
Looks like a technology sausage-fest ad, to be frank (n' buns).
How did Engadget know I was a New Kids fan?

I am disappointed. I don't see a dedicated person ( ROIDS abusing Bodybuilder ) to represent the Xtreme Series of chips. Also the picture is missing a little disabled boy named AMD. WhOOAAA, Yes I did : )
