LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung Omnia 2 slated for August 23rd, according to supposed Best Buy leak
If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. According to this snapshot from Best Buy's computers, that's when LG's desirable BL40 Chocolate Touch will be making its way into the consumer world, alongside a red Xenon and a bevy of Samsung phones including Omnia 2, Rogue, and Solstice. No clue on what the Tour is doing up there dated for the 23rd, since it's already out on both Verizon and Sprint, but perhaps a major shipment is in the works. As for that M330 for September 8th? Yeah, we're not sure. Surrounding that tantalizing list from the top and bottom, respectively, are Samsung's eco-conscious Reclaim -- presumably listed for August 16th, although the date is obscured -- and a red and black "G2" from august 5th, which would undoubtedly be referring to T-Mobile's sophomore Android device, the myTouch 3G. Two weeks seem awfully close, but if this pans out, we certainly won't be arguing.

What carrier are the Omnia 2 and Chocolate Touch for?
They will both be for Verizon.
Most likely (almost definitely) Verizon.
Cingular
It probably would have helped if I clicked the read link...
While myself and others picked up on it right away and you can always click the read link, I was surprised that the post didn't actually say which carrier when I re-read it. That type of omission is just poor writing.
and it looks like i'm going to verizon. at&t, you would rather have your frikin' iphone than get sweet pieces of awesome like the omnia, omnia 2, and tp2. i'll give you a month: if you don't have the omnia 2 by september 23, it's hello verizon!
The Chocolate Touch is most likely NOT the heralded BL40, it's most likely its cousin... the BL42.
then where does the Touch come into play?
the BL42 is not a touchscreen device.
the BL42 is probably the Choclate 4.
Omnia II is not a hardware upgrade
Chocolate sux
be very interested to see pricing on omnia 2
iPoop, sounds like you just arrived in 2008.
Well done.
Pathetic.
iPoop needs to keep repeting to himself that he didnt waste his money buying Apple's overhyped smartphone wannabe.
If he could see my 8Tweaked) N97 or a Samsung OmniaHD he would break down in tears.
By the way why are they trying to feed you americans the cheapo Omnia2 and denying you the sheer pleasure of the OmniaHD?
Okay, let's do a quick iPhone recap.
2007-iPhone 1 is introduced. Best thing since sliced bread...great UI, thin, email, best mobile web browser ever. But wait! No landscape keyboard besides safari? No MMS? Sure, threaded SMS, but why can't I delete individual messages? And WTF?! NO 3G?!
2008-iPhone 3G introduced. Holy crap! App store! v2.0 brought out...but iPod touches have to pay?! Thinner, curved, but plastic. Still no landscape keyboard, delete individual SMS messages, still a crappy camera. Battery sucks. 3G sucks...not a great upgrade.
2009-iPhone 3G S (renamed 3GS shortly after). Better battery. Twice the speed, data wise and computationally wise. Landscape keyboard, better camera, but looks exactly the same. Why?! I'm paying 300 dollars for my wonder-phone! I don't want it to look like some pauper's 3G! Sounds great...but the rest of the world has caught up. HTC Touch pro has an equal camera, physical keyboard, can load your own apps (no crazy approval process), speakerphone, and that's just one option from one manufacturer.
Apple can't keep up at it's own game anymore, at least with phones.
Oh I meant HTC touch pro 2.
Thats a day before i can upgrade my phone! =D
That's the day I can upgrade mine. Supposedly I could wait a few days for the TP2. It's going to be a tough choice, but I'm in need of a new phone now.
What's engadget mobile for if everything is posted here?
Hero? no. plz.
the irony of your name is too much. is it a description for the products you are masturbating to?
FNG, it's because he's a really obvious troll.
You guys need to pay more attention.
I hope they keep the omnia 2 under $300 with a contract..
Finally.
Thundercats, ho...?
Hum.. no SKU for the Touch and others...
The M330 mentioned is actually shown in an earlier story about the HTC Touch Pro 2.
There on that list from Sprint, launching on the 3rd Seprember is the Samsung M330.
want chocolate phone badly, but might wait cause want zune HD more. both will get though.
I work there and can confirm this is accurate.
Work where? Do have any evidence to support your claim?
I work at Best Buy, where the leak is from...
And I dont have proof other than that I look at these types of documents (as shown, an at-risk report) on a daily basis. But I don't take screen caps of my work, I dont think people really need to see it.
Hopefully the Omnia 2 will be updateble to the latest WM 6.5 build ! www.mobiletechworld.com/2009/08/08/latest-buid-of-windows-mobile-6-5-tries-to-improve-stylus-free-usability/

no omnia hd (i8910)???
"Top-Ten At-Risk Skus" pretty much translates into "top ten things that are going to be discontinued and will no longer be sold soon"
It seems like these are just old numbers that will be replaced with new ones. Maybe some kind of filler numbers.
Seems to me like those aren't release dates due to that list consisting of items that are existing and going to be discontinued.
Did you guys know that the Samsung HD actually has LESS PIXELS ON SCREEN than the Samsung Omnia 2? The official Samsung website says 360 x 640. The Samsung Omnia 2 has 480 x 800 ! BIZARRE!
I suspect that the 480x800 resolution of the Omnia 2 vs the 360x640 of the Omnia HD would mean that in some areas the Omnia 2 is producing a significantly larger amount of joy.. My webpages wouldn't fit as well on the HD, and I couldn't play DVDs at full resolution either (has to be 720 pixels wide.)
who ever put this up is full of shit and they should be killed very slowly....LOL
Well its official, this whole august 23rd release date was a hoax. Just talked to a rep, and was told no new releases were made today. I did find out though that the Samsung Omnia II is slated to be released sometime in October. And as for the Chocolate Touch, it will be released even later, as there is still no mention on the LG site.
Today a went to Best Buy and discovered that the BL40 was not released today, and when I asked a rep. she said, "We expect to see a release within the next few months." The picture was wrong.
