Samsung Replenish review
There's something about a green phone that really tugs at the heartstrings, but over the years Sprint has been determined to yank as hard on those cords as possible. Recyclable handsets like the Samsung Restore, Samsung Reclaim, and LG Remarq took store shelves by storm, and the latest environmentally-friendly kid on the block is here to encourage reducing, reusing, and renewing -- your contract, that is. The Samsung Replenish puts its own twist on the eco-phone trend by adding in Android. This is by no means the first time such a smartphone has come to market, but it's the first one to knock on Sprint's door. So, how did the Replenish do for making a genuine first impression? Samsung Reclaim for Sprint hands-on
Everyone wants to be environmentally friendly -- and really, it's getting to the point where it's outwardly irresponsible (and kinda stupid) if you're not taking steps to reduce your footprint and help others do the same. Thing is, the impetus to take it easy on Mother Earth comes at precisely the same time that gadgets are playing a more important role in our lives than they ever have before, and historically, gadgets haven't been perfect angels. Minerals needed in circuitry contribute to harsh mining operations, haphazardly discarded devices and batteries leave landfills toxic, and chargers blow through untold gigawatts in wasted power every year.
LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung Omnia 2 slated for August 23rd, according to supposed Best Buy leak
If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. According to this snapshot from Best Buy's computers, that's when LG's desirable BL40 Chocolate Touch will be making its way into the consumer world, alongside a red Xenon and a bevy of Samsung phones including Omnia 2, Rogue, and Solstice. No clue on what the Tour is doing up there dated for the 23rd, since it's already out on both Verizon and Sprint, but perhaps a major shipment is in the works. As for that M330 for September 8th? Yeah, we're not sure. Surrounding that tantalizing list from the top and bottom, respectively, are Samsung's eco-conscious Reclaim -- presumably listed for August 16th, although the date is obscured -- and a red and black "G2" from august 5th, which would undoubtedly be referring to T-Mobile's sophomore Android device, the myTouch 3G. Two weeks seem awfully close, but if this pans out, we certainly won't be arguing.
Samsung and Sprint introduce the Reclaim -- a cellphone made from corn
We love the Earth, and apparently so do Sprint and Samsung. The two companies have just introduced the Reclaim, a super-eco cellphone made from 80 percent recycled materials. The device -- a stout, sliding, QWERTY message-friendly model -- is constructed from "bio-plastic" materials made from corn, is free of PVC, and mostly free of BFR (brominated flame retardants)... which are apparently pretty bad. The phone also has a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, can accept microSD cards (we assume) up to 32GB, and has Sprint Navigation onboard. The packaging will be eco-friendly as well, as it's constructed from 70 percent recycled materials and printed with soy-based ink. The carrier will be selling the Reclaim in "Earth Green" or "Ocean Blue" come August 16th for $50 (after a $30 instant rebate and $50 mail-in rebate) with a two-year contract. Additionally, $2 of that profit will be funneled to the Nature Conservancy's Adopt an Acre program. Finally, a phone that goes with your Prius.
Samsung M560 Reclaim is on a mission to reclaim Sprint, Earth, your heart
If you thought that "Chianti" was an odd name for a Samsung phone on Sprint... well, the new name isn't really any less odd. PhoneArena appears to have obtained shots of the upcoming M560 Reclaim, which seems to be a wide portrait QWERTY slider in the same vein as the Propel (among others). It's got a landscape QVGA display, 2 megapixel cam, and GPS -- but as the name sorta implies, the emphasis here is going to be on environmental friendliness, which could mean that it's using the same corn-based shell as the E200 Eco. Tasty! It's been spotted both in blue and green, though it's unknown if those will be the actual launch colors, how much it'll run, or when we might have the pleasure.
