Gigabyte T1028X TouchNote brings fresher specs, steeper price
It's only been a few months since Gigabyte unveiled the 1028M netbook / tablet hybrid, but its successor is already available to buy in Europe. Announced in Hong Kong last month, the 1028X ups the resolution to 1366 x 768 on the 10.1-inch swivel display and bundles a 6-cell 7650 mAh battery for a purported six and a half hours of juice. There's also an utterly meaningless 60MHz CPU upgrade from the Atom N270 to the N280, but the most surprising thing of all might be the price: €622 ($877). That's an awful lot of damage for what is still very much a netbook, but then if you simply must have a touchscreen display in that specific size range, there isn't much competition going around. At least for now.

"There's also an utterly meaningless 60MHz CPU upgrade from the Atom N270 to the N280"
The N270 has 533 FSB and N280 has a 667 FSB. To me its not entirely meaningless.
You know, I agree. People keep downplaying N280, but I like to see it in specs. The speed difference isn't much, but it's there and the FSB difference is always welcome.
This is it. This is the tablet I've been waiting for my whole life. Oh wait a minute. That's not made by Apple. When I take a close look at it, it actually sucks. This is one example why the tablet never became popular. It's a frankenmonster that has been caught between hell and purgatory. No thanks.
There's the Eee PC T91 of course, but as you indicated it's not in that *specific* size range. Close enough though for $400 less.

gigabyte atom based tablet hasn't been cheap, I dont see anything surprising here.
The US price probably gonna be somewhere around 700-750, if I'm willing to pay that much, I might as well get a TX2Z for 800, it's heavier and doesn't last as long, but it's a way more power machine.
It is meaningless to call progress, regardless of how minescule, meaningless.
bronze-metallic = WIN
WRONG
Lack of Ion = fail.
Too bad you can't find it anywhere in Taiwan...no matter the price
Considering that you can pick up a full-fledged HP Tablet (Turion-X2 2.2, 4GB RAM, Radeon 3200 graphics and a 12.1 in screen) for $25 cheaper this seems utterly pointless.
You're assuming that it'll really be around $877. However electronics are rarely priced near the exchange rate. (plus the Euro price includes VAT)
The price will drop for all of these the moment Apple's new tablet hits the scene making the choices better for everyone. :)
The N280 isn't just 60MHz faster in clock-speed. They also bumped up the FSB to 667MHz (from 533MHz). And in practice this does seem to have a small but noticeable benefit in performance.
For that price, I will wait for the Apple tablet.
1. Assuming the rumor are true
2. How do you know that the apple tablet will be good? Do you have no demands at all in hardware if it's an apple product? If apple made it it's good no mather what hardware or specs or limitations they force on the device?
