Xbox 360 Elite replacing Pro at $299 price point August 30th?

We've already had a pretty clear indication that the Xbox 360 Elite would be replacing the current middle-of-the-road Pro model as Microsoft winnows its SKU options down to two, and a new Meijer ad obtained by Kotaku has now further backed up rumors of the switchover, and seemingly confirmed that that, as expected, the Elite will also be occupying the Pro's $299 price point. Of course, all of this is still far from official, but the ad does also peg the date for the price drop as August 30th, so it seems likely we'll hear something from Microsoft before then -- perhaps at a conveniently timed major gaming conference.

If microsoft came out with another version with a 1tb hard drive, I'd be willing to pay 400 for it. I think a lot of the gamers who are undecided would jump on this too. I don't think Microsoft realizes how important hard drive size is, especially to those who only really care about storage and playback of movies and music. 120 gb is nothing compared to what's out there now, especially with drives being so cheap. PS3 definitely has the upper hand in hard drive upgradeability.
Just release a bigger hard drive =/ I mean like over 250gbs..
We still don't know any of the specs of the slim PS3. I can't wait to finally hear an official announcement. If sony comes out and puts a price tag anything higher than 300 for the slim, I'll be very disappointed. I might get the 360 just to spite sony if this happens.
Wow Elite... that's much better than Pro. The only thing that can beat Elite is Ultra!

i hope they actually do this. Ive been planning on buyin myself a new 360 and wanted the elite for the larger hard drive. This would be perfect if they do drop the price.
Aesthetics are one more reason some people like myself would like the Elite. When most or all of your media appliances are black, the 360 sticks out like a thumb. With that said, I still don't see it fit to pay that much more for the color, hdmi and the bigger HD. MS is so good at doing business and making money, I have this love/hate relationship with them. Remember the days of the original xbox, when you needed the stupid remote and dungle to be able to play DVDs. I was furious, but guess what, I bought it!
Someone mentioned the lack of blu-ray love. From what I'm noticing, I don't think we'll ever see MS add blu-ray drives to or fo xboxes. It seems to me they figure HD can be downloaded from their online stores and eventually rented globally through netflix or amazon. The extra cash to get the drive added isn't worth it to them in my opinion.

^^ Doesn't come with the HDMI cable, it is still HDMI equipped. Just go to mono price and get one for cheap.
So, I saw the new SKUs in the wild at Frys this weekend, they of course were selling them for $399. Here is what I noticed:
Inbox contents:
No HDMI cable kit
No Component Cable
Just the composite (Yellow, White, Red) cable.
Also, no included games.
So beware, while M$ might be dropping the price by $100, they are removing either option of connecting it to an HDTV, fine if you use HDMI since you can get a cable for cheap, not so fine if you use component.
