Apple's iPod event set for September 9th with nary a tablet in sight?

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

"The keynote will be on the day that the Beatles digitally remastered CD collection gets released too? I have a feeling that The Beatles will finally be in iTunes."
My thoughts exactly! Apple Corps have been trying to make 09.09.09 a big deal, with both the remastered albums and the Rock Band game. iTunes, the world's largest music distributer, would be a logical way to sell all the music.
These companies have settled their "Sosumi" issues, and should be willing to reach an agreement. Apple Inc. will be more than willing to include/promote the newly released stuff. Steve Jobs loves himself some Beatles, so he'd make the entire keynote about them if he didn't have *new* iPods to demonstrate.
I was thinking it would be great if Apple stole a page from Microsoft's playbook and had Paul and Ringo on stage Sometime during the keynote... The interwebs would go crazy!
I wonder what impact the iPhone and iTouch are having on classic sales. I think alot of people who don't need [ie have that much music] buy classics over nanos because they just barely have more music than a nano holds, and the highest nano is only 50 bucks less than a 120GB classic. a value proposition that sounds great to most consumers. if they can spruce the classic up, maybe it'll once again be the sales leader it was
Apple better release an iPad or they're going to seriously get upstaged by the Zune HD. Without a tablet what else do they have to show? An iPod Touch with a camera? YAWN. They seriously picked the worst time to have this.
See what I did there?
As I've mentioned before. The sad sorry state of the Zune HD will reach an all time low, if thats even possible. Since the Zune brand is already associated to fecal matter with the buying public.
Whatever it is that Apple reveals on Sept 9, the entire tech world, as well as the public are all eyes and ears for Apple. While the lowly Zune HD 15 minutes of fame has already come and gone, before the "me too" product actually ships. LOL
Really? The "entire tech world" focuses on all major tech events. The buying public? I don't think most of the "buying public" really cares... Hence the 8% marketshare for Apple computers- less than that of the Zune's 10-11% marketshare in the PMP world. Therefore, if the Zune is a failure, then Mac must be as well- by your logic that is. The only thing Apple has a grip on (and the only reason they're still around today) is the PMP market, and that's shrinking with competition with Creative, Cowon, Sony, Samsung, Archos, and the Zune. The only reason Apple is dominating the PMP market is because they got lucky and exploited the new market to no end.
As I've said numerous times before, talking out your ass is not a wise thing to do, Jubei.
Oh, and by the way, you're still getting low ranked, even though you're in an Apple topic. Pathetic. LOL
"Oh, and by the way, you're still getting low ranked, even though you're in an Apple topic. Pathetic. LOL"
Ahhha.. you actually believed a topic matters on being low ranked at Engadget? LOL You've topped yourself this time. ahahaha
Obviously a majority of the people viewing your posts think you're wrong. As a matter of fact, I *KNOW* you're wrong, so who's to say they don't know the same exact thing. And yes, it does matter, because if you're being low ranked, you're obviously doing something or saying something that's wrong (which you are). Conversely, if you were to be high ranked, you would obviously be saying something truthful or that's agreeable. It's very simple to figure out, but it's no surprise that you haven't.
Back to the topic at hand. Zune's PMP market share > Apple's computer marketshare. The Zune's HD moniker is well deserved due to it's beautiful OLED screen, HD video output, HD radio, and it's powerful graphical capabilities- all things that the iPhone/iPod Touch doesn't have.
As "Bob Loblaw" said in a comment below, "iPod or Zune HD?? The choice is hard this time around. Apple will really have to impress me this year." That seems to be the thinking of many Engadget posters lately... Even more so than when the 2nd generation of Zune's came out. As you may see, Bob, and many like him, including plenty other Engadget posters, are a part of the "buying public" that you love to mention so often. It's painfully obvious that the Zune isn't just some gimmick as you have tried to lead others to believe throughout your time here on Engadget, so I'd say it's high time you just shut your trap and move on with your life.
"Back to the topic at hand."
Your so Microsoft! LOL. You never used to use such phrases until you decided to stalk and insult me with every post. Your too easy to read.... and predict. :-)
Apparently you don't pay much attention then. But, it's obvious I wasted my time, because you ignore my very valid points to try and make the subject about me rather than the product you tried to trash talk.
The only reason I pay attention to your posts so much is because your obsession with Steve Jobs and all things Apple is hilariously pathetic.

Sooo predictable. Look at all that time you wasted again replying. Good job. LOL
Again proving you're nothing but hot air. All talk and no fight.

Sooo predictable, huh? Yeah, I guess it is pretty easy to predict when you're going to be proven wrong. Jubei = FAIL LOL (see what I did there?)
Most people already have a cellphone. You don't even need a smartphone anymore to enjoy music on your handset. All you need is an SD slot and a way to hook up headphones. A lot of non-smartphones have that.
You don't have to pay a huge premium for a cellphone capable of playing music either. The iPhone has a pretty expensive contract but there are plenty of Android phones capable of the same music playing prowess that cost significantly less on contract.
I think the iPhone is great for what it does but the iPhone is far from the only music playing device on the market. I like the iPhone but I prefer and own an Android phone and it does music playing just as good as any MP3 player on the market.
The contract for the phone was extremely reasonable and with my daily commute being about an hour total I can listen to music at my leisure and I will have more than enough battery life left at the end of the day.
I agree with your grievances about the lack of carriers for the iPhone and the outrageously expensive contracts but you can sidestep all those issues by getting an Android phone. Android OS is very solid though there are few good handsets for it just yet so you might want to wait for a bit of variety. But take it from a former 4 devicer(30Gb Zune, Windows Mobile phone, ebook reader and Laptop) these phones are quite a bit more capable than we like to give them credit for.
By buying a phone and adding 32GB SDHC card do it I've eliminated the Zune and Windows Mobile phone and come out with a shiny new Android phone.
@ Tony Montana >> "I mean the majority of people only want to carry one device(their cellphone).
I've known exactly ZERO people who play music on a regular cell phone.
Every cell phones today have some sort of music playing capability. Yet, it's not enough to unseat the iPod. I know dozens of people with Blackberries that actually have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Yet, they've never plugged a set of headphone into them. They still use their iPods.
This was my old cell phone... Samsung a930. It played music. It even had music buttons on the front. http://www.wirefly.com/images/phones/samsung_a930_verizon_z1.jpg
I bought an iPod Nano shortly after. I now have a Blackberry Curve. I even bought an 8GB card for my Blackberry, thinking it would replace my Nano.
I still use my Nano.
I have an LG Voyager (that has a music player) and I will be buying an iPod Touch in September. Why? Because the Voyager's music player is shit. It's battery sucks too so I wouldn't want to stress it too much. It is nice to have two devices so I don't have to worry about playing music so much that I can't text or talk. I think there are many people in my same position.
Hmm.. 240GB iPod Classic get? I might be down.
It'll be the updated touch; perfect timing in relation to the release of the Zune HD so fair play to them competition wise.
THAT IS CLEVER! GENIUS POST!
well, maybe no tablet means bigger news for the ipods
Zune HD will be better technologically but it will be irrelevant. Apple has the market and they know it. They will release a new ipod touch with a slight improvement like the rumored camera and some added horsepower. Otherwise, nothing much else.
This is not a troll by any means -- I realize apple's power and marketing strategy. The thing is SO DO THEY. Apple will release the smallest of updates to a device and charge the same if not more, and thousands of people will buy it simply because they are completely absorbed with Apple products.
Like I said, very smart by Apple to know their audience and know what they can sell. They don't have to best the Zune HD at all. I already have people saying that the Zune isn't for them because of their portable stereo attachments for the ipod or a car dock. Forget the better hardware specs and cheaper price, they can't ditch Apple.
it's the fanboys and media's fault for making the keynotes a big deal, when really only half of them have ever announced anything major. most of the time it's stupid shit like a new iLife or cosmetic improvements on existing products.
iDon't Care
iPod or Zune HD?? The choice is hard this time around. Apple will really have to impress me this year.
Not sure how it's a hard choice unless you are desperately in love with iTunes or have some stereo home dock that you want to keep using.
Don't care. I am UPGRADING my iPod Touch to a Zune HD. 16GB for $220?? Yes please, although I could see Apple charging $199 for the 16gb iPod touch $299 for a 32gb and so $399 for a 64gb. One of the main reasons I am doing it is because I hate the iTunes sh*t upgrade around once a month and wait 10 minutes for a bloated application to run. Also way to many updates to the firmware, I don't wanna download a 200mb file for some bug fixes, no thanks.
what part of the market would an apple tablet fit into? i don't see it. i have a tablet and well, i only use it as an actual laptop. i almost never use the tablet features of it because its more of a burden to use it as such. overall tablets havent sold well at all. maybe someone else can provide some insight into the reason apple would create a tablet and/or what market need it will fill.
Steve Jobs has lost his tablets?
This is the second time you've used the word 'nary' in one day. Stop.
Ladies & Gentlemen... the BEATLES!
These iPods better have USB3 support for 2010 or they will totally suck...they could release em now with USB 2 cables and in 2010 release a USB3 cable..
FYI 9/9/09 is also the day the ENTIRE Beatles library is released remastered on CD. Also the date of Beatles Rock Band. Also my thought the day The Beatles arrive in the iTunes Store.
Why are people still wandering if it's gonna be September 9th…?
It's GOING TO BE SEPTEMBER 9TH!
It all makes sense:
1.) Free iPod touch + Computer (sale) ends September 8th
Apple does this every year. The sale ends the day before the iPod refresh.
2.) They're going to talk about iTunes and what is the biggest thing on September 9th (HINT: has to do with music)?
THE BEATLES are going digital! Which is a great time for Apple to show off that the Beatles are coming to iTunes
3.) I DON'T REMEMBER, but I believe it has been confirmed that it is the week of September 7th
Well here are the reasons why it will be September 9th!
ENJOY!
An event held on 09/09/09, I smell something fishy
I definitely heard the iTouch will have a camera and maybe voice recording features. Maybe the nanos' will have OLED screens. Apple will never let Microsoft up them but, hopefully, the Zune HD will give them some healthy competition. Why can't Apple inlude FM tuners in their iPods, are they afraid people won't buy music from iTunes...I don't get it. I like Apple products but the company's arrogance is getting on my bad side already.
