Atree J100 gets lost in the forest of Korean PMPs
We certainly can't knock the 4GB Atree J100 when it comes to its well stocked arsenal of goodies: it has a three-inch touchscreen, an e-dictionary, DMB digital TV tuner, video playback, and microSD expansion -- and it plays music too. Audio formats are also plentiful, with MP3, WMA and OGG for the commoners, and FLAC and APE for the lossless fanatics. Too bad it's held back by the chunky casing, which looks big enough to have fit a five-inch screen if the designers were so inclined. With slicker-looking competition from the likes of Cowon and Samsung, the otherwise entirely useful J100 might struggle to stand out, but if you're willing to look beyond its superficial shortcomings, it's available now for 198,000 KRW ($158).

I'll stick with my iPod touch, TYVM. :(
well said. This should be in the crap gadget section, you know video playback is going to be choppy and 15 FPS at best. Please.
#1, iPhone has 3.5 inch screen
#2, this POS cant make a call
#3 This POS cannot run Apps
#4, Buy American!
What happened to the ZUNE HD? why bother with this crap.
@meat_juice
On the other hand, it is much cheaper that the iPod, supports more codecs, has a TV tuner and an expansion slot. Right?
Too bad I can't read korean, though.
It's kinda meh.
@meatjuice
well for starters i will admit that the screen is kinda small but it has a 16:9 aspect ratio which is pretty nice. secondly, of course it doesn't make calls it's a pmp. thirdly, it seems to me that it does support apps including some sort of paint-like program not to mention the widgets and calendar in the picture above. fourthly, well that's a matter of preference really....personally i could care less were a quality product comes from.
other reasons to buy - greater array of supported file formats for video and music playback than a zune or ipod touch, premium headphones, DMB TV tuner, microSD slot, and a pretty nice price
I s'pose if I wanted something like this I'd get a creative Zen for cheaps. So Yeah.
This is just meh.
This product seems like a good start, maybe over the years it will get better.
@meat_juice
Also, it's kind of seems like blind hate on your part.
1) I agree here. If it's so bulky you could've gotten a 5" screen on it, it's too big for a 3" screen. Plus, iPhone's is bigger. And you can bet the iPhone is probably brighter.
2) If you want something to make calls, get a phone.
3) If you want something to run Apps and WebApps, get an MID or Smartphone.
4) Why? Most of the stuff on the american market is s#!t comapred to some foreign stuff out there. But I do like teh iPod touch...
Damn this comment system...!
Does December 30th cost extra?
Dirty Korean government probably shot it.
USA should band together with other civilized nations and take over the world in the name of HUMANITY and kill all these power hungry terrorists.
UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS!!!!
meat_juice is the guy that wrote "Americans prove once again, that they cannot design anything that is not crap, just like AMERICAN CARS." Seems to be some Japanese guy with an identity crisis, Pearl Harbor?
i would have to say this isnt that bad.
it may be a small screen, but it supports divx and xvid in an avi container @ 1.5mbps, max resolution 800x600. decent, could be better
plays wmv @ 800KBps at 640x480, could be better.
has a digital tv tuner built in, expansion slot, support for lossless codecs like ape and flac. what more could you ask for...
has built in microsd slot, a dictionary! lol views pictures and notes, fm tuner, a paint app, a calculator all for about 158 usd.
i say this is pretty decent
FM radio tuner. If it had one, I'd be looking up one to buy right now.
You're all like, this sucks, but DMB is something, where you can use it.
You enter the seoul subway, and it provides you 20 channels of programs, most of which are a few minutes long.
Then there's terrestrial DMB, which has terrified me many a day, until I tell my taxi driver to please not watch tv while driving me on the freeway.
Just saying.
Looks pretty cool to me
Where's the American forest of PMPs? D:
Smartphones and netbooks. Laptops too.
well, Archos already has a huge part of this market, at least in France. I don't if it's really present in the US, or in the UK.
