Sony finally hacks $100 from 'old' PlayStation 3 price, starting today
After begging, pleading and imploring Sony for months on end to lower the barrier to entry on its PlayStation 3 console, the company has at long last relented. Starting today (supposedly, anyway), all existing PS3 consoles will retail for $100 less than they did yesterday, though it looks as if most e-tailers have yet to ratchet their tags down to reflect the change. Of course, you could wait just a few more days and snag a PS3 Slim for the low, low price of $299, but the question is -- will you? Do tell in comments below.

here's the run down as i see it:
original ps3 has swappable HDD so you could get 500gb if you wanted to. orig ps3 also has 4 USB ports. the new one has 2. i like the way sony's OS runs media types in easy form: music, video, and games. the xbox dashboard feels clumsy when switching media.
xbox 360 has a great online multiplayer experience. but features-wise, ps3 destroys it. blu-ray for one. 7.1 audio. 1080p. the ps3 controller destroys the 360 controller. i remember so many times wanting to slam my 360 controller because the d-pad was a p.o.s. same for my second controller. the wireless headset was garbage. i ended up selling it on ebay and switching back the the wired one.
in the end, just ask yourself what you're gonna use your console for: music, movies, or games? i would def choose ps3 for music and movies because of blu-ray. xbox 360 has netflix now, but blu-ray is an unbeatable movie watching experience. all the games will be the same except for the handful of exclusives for each system. examples being metal gear solid and arkham asylum for ps3 and halo and gears of war for xbox 360. also exclusive will be original ps2/xbox titles. all other games will release on both platforms including most of the downloadable arcade titles. with ps3 you can use pretty much any bluetooth headset, but with 360 you have to use the microsoft one. as for reliability, i got the red ring of death twice on my 360 and the 2nd time microsoft decided not to repair it and to just send me a new one. as for console noise, my 360 was stupid loud and my ps3 is nice and quiet with occassional disc read sound.
it's all about what you're going to use the hardware for: music, movies, games, or a combination of the 3.
in closing, the xbox 360 is technically inferior to the ps3. xbox had it's day. now ps3 is approaching maturity as a system and software developers are now comfortable with the programming. we'll see what microsoft can do with the successor to 360. i'd say ps3 would be near perfect if it had a good web browser with plugin support.
