Well, the laptop (or netbook, whatever you wanna call it) advantage is that you can get 2~3 of for the price of a single Mac, plus if you chose your laptop carefully the battery will last way longer and you can use part of the extra money you save to update the hard drive to 500GB and the RAM to 2GB or just buy a gaming desktop with the extra, if you chose the components well you can get a good one for just 500 euros. Try checking for the ASUS 1005HA-H it has very good battery life (8~10 hours) and an AMAZING keyboard or maybe those new Acer Timeline.
Macs made sense back when "normal" laptops were around the same price.... now they're just overpriced goodies with a huge profit margin. Also, if you don't have experience with Macs you might lose some time digging for programs and learning how to work with it, but that is not too hard (learning how to work with it that is).
