MSI Wind U210 with AMD Athlon Neo announced for Europe
We see what MSI is doing. First, they released a followup to the Intel-packin' X-Slim X600 with an otherwise-identical AMD-based machine called the X610. And now they're making the MSI Wind U200 available with an AMD processor as well. And what do you think they're calling it? the U210, of course. Starting at €399, the Wind U210-002 sports an Athlon Neo MV-40 1.6GHz processor with 1GB memory, 160GB HDD, and XP Home. The Wind U210-010 ups the ante a bit with 2GB memory, 250GB HDD, and Vista Home Premium, going for €449. We don't have the exact release date, but we're sure by then the company will have more laptops to shove an AMD processor into.

whe da msi netbook can come to my home for me to use i will have a time to have a great time in my life in my overall lovelyness, once this has been amoung my other products and i cna have a full lifecycle with it i can draw conclusions to how the power of a cheese can be used in combination with burger man kings. can't we all just join hands with our next line of netbooks?
...what?
I think something was lost in translation from your mind to English.
No.

if the notebook on the cloud of teeth moves the mouse on a chair of desks I would absolutely agree on it.
So another product on the market of identically equipped netbooks?
Why do people even care anymore? Seems like only the 010 is actually worth mentoning.
identically equipped ? AMD!
AMD shoulda called the processor the quark
Still a CPU with comparable frequency.
Since it´s an AMD it´ll probably be able to heat half the city but other than that there´s not much difference.
They you are being highly ignorant. The Neo can play h264 natively. When paired with 3410, it can pull off CoD4.
Atom is a 32bit in-order processor. Neo is a 64bit out-of-order processor.
Where are my Tegra netbooks?
um.... Tegra is ARM wont play nice with windows lol :P.
I don't give a sh!t about Winblows (or OS X for that matter)
+1 for ARM netbooks (as long as they don't screw them by using crap processors.. Tegra or Cortex-based would do)
Been waiting for the MSI u200 for a while now....come to NA please!.........with a 6cell that is.
Anyone know offhand how the Neo MV-40 compares against the Atom? About the same i suspect. I also suspect this will also have craptastic intel onboard graphics as usual. So far, it looks like the new Lennovo S12 /w ion is going to get my money.
AMD neo is noticably faster than the intel atom. Its roughly equal to the intel culv chips that are starting to appear but the neo has worse battery life and produces more heat. As for graphics, and Amd chip will never be run on an Intel board. It will use the ATI x1250, which is decent, roughly the same as the Intel x3100 board if you are familiar with that.
Thanks Kingcyrus. The intel graphics snip was a "doh". Just so used to seeing these netbooks pumped out daily with intel integrated.
I would have thought anything amd produces, graphically at least, would (should) be able to beat the snot out of the x3100. What the hell is the point then?
ATI x1250 does beat the snot out of the x3100 and the x4500 in the only category you would care about beyond the 950 - able to functionally do 3D. Don't believe that x4500 is that much better than the x3100 - they both suck and can barely play KoToR, much less anything remotely recent.
x1250 is pretty terrible compared to anything dedicated, but it *WILL* beat the snot out of x4500 and x3100, because it also has real drivers, unlike Intel.
And screen size?
12" screen.
meh, my hp dv2 is still better, came with 4gb ram, external dvd drive and vista x64, and i'll be going to 7 when hp ships my disk
How much did it cost?
My Dv2z cost about $100 more, came with the dual core neo, ati mobility radeon 3410 dedicated graphics, 4 GB memory, external DVD burner, and a 320 GB HDD... not a great deal for the Wind.
Except the battery life is ~2 hours. End of THAT debate :-P
I returned my Acer 1410 because the keyboard had half of the keys not even working, and it was slow as a dog for anything I wanted to use it for. I'm thinking of going for the dv2. How is the battery life? I already know portability is great. I need something that doesn't insult me with 640x480 3D on the three games you can even play with an x4500/culv solo.
If you want just a netbook with long battery life, get a cheap one with an atom/950, no need to spend anything more because you aren't getting anything better with the x4500/culv variants.
yes! finally, we can leave the ecosphere of intel atom compromises
Any processor is going to be a compromise in some way. In the case of the Neo it eats up a LOT more power.
"We don't have the exact release date"
hum, hum : already available in France :

Nice! Athlon Neo is significantly more powerful than an Atom at the same clock speed, and the X1250, while obsolete, will run circles around an Intel IGP.
The compromise for having a lot more power is battery life. Any word on that?
That's the big question. Atom >> Neo on efficiency, but I'm not sure how X1250 stacks up vs. GMA4500... plus most of the power consumption in a netbook is the screen anyway, so my guess is a little worse battery life overall than an Intel system, but comparable enough that you'd most likely plump for AMD for the graphics alone. Or at least I would...
