Portion of "satisfied" Palm Pre owners
Of 40 Palm Pre users polled in August, 2009, 87 percent termed themselves "satisfied," with 45 percent saying they were "very satisfied."

This is a really tempting laptop, but it just doesn't make sense to buy it unless you really need it. The Arrandale-based CULVs coming out early next year will blow it out of the water. Much better performance per clock as well as Turbo mode. That should be enough to allow you to do things like watch HD video.
Besides, all these laptops are 1st gen devices. They will have worked out a lot of kinks 5 or 6 months from now.
and the year after that, the "insert intel codename" will blow the arrandale out of the water.
you can't keep waiting for the next technology to come out, you'll never end up buying anything cause something better will always be around the corner.
I bought the first gen Aspire One still have it and love it. A "real" netbook.
Unfortunately manufactures are forgetting what netbooks should be and they're getting bigger and more expensive.
@ sacapuntas: Yes. Some of us don't want to pay $460 to fuck around with a cellphone OS with a miniscule number of apps when we can upgrade to Win 7 for free.
-Sigh- If this had Atom + ULV I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake.
Upgrade it to 4GB+ of RAM and a 500GB 7200rpm HDD, with Windows 7.
Immensely lightweight, quick and snappy laptop that I can take anywhere, and still do everything I use my main laptop to do, including playing World of Warcraft.
Atom + ULV? Aren't ALL Atoms ULV?..
And why would you want a weaker processor?
Even though the SU3500 has a lower clock speed, it is much faster than and Atom processor
When he said "like a fat kid on a cupcake." was I the only person who thought of the Android mobile OS?
Hello Engadget readers.
I am Ki7.
Welcome... to HELL... mhuahahaha
Thank you for your enthusiasm.
Now, please. Enjoy this post about an Acer laptop.
I'll wait for Windows 7 before buying anything.
Why? If you buy something now you'll get a free 7 upgrade, plus you'll still have a Vista license
Acer is crap.
No they aren't. I have a budget Extensa 5620 from them. I still works great, I just put in 4 GB of memory and my dad loves it. It's about 2 years old now.
I've had an Acer Aspire 5100 for almost 4 years now and I have never had any problems, and never had it freeze up on me even once. I think Acer's quality is better than people give it credit for.
I believe the 1410 only comes with a 6 hour battery rather than the 8 hours for the 1810t. AFAIK, It isn't considered a part of the timeline series like the 1810t. Just a heads up.
err why would the battery life be less, isn't it the exact same thing? just the name changed....
Nope, Weet is right. Compare the specs and you'll see.
The battery capacity is different in the models, I think its 4200mah vs 5600mah.
too pricey
With laptops there is always a compromise between price, size, and performance. There are better performing laptops which are only slightly larger, but much more expensive. Netbooks are cheaper, but won't offer the same performance.
It's also available on Amazon for 449 w/ free ship.
I actually just bought one from amazon just before reading your post...
I was thinking about getting one of these but I went for the Dell 11z instead. I don't like Acer much.
Apparently you don't like battery life either,.
the 11z uses the same battery as the dell mini 10, so it's not hard to upgrade to a 6cell.
Arrandale CULV info link please? I'd like to know more before considering a first-gen device.
Community Pwnd.
These Acer ultra portables are awesome... I will never buy anything bigger ever again. I just bought the Acer Aspire One 11.6" with Atom processor and 2gb ram, and it kicks asss. And it's running Vista Basic! I can only imagine how much nicer they are going to be in a year... faster processor, Windows 7 and even more Ram!
one of the better choices for a ultraportable right now. price could be a bit better tough.
It's my birthday today.
Happy Birthday. ( -_-)
with a little bit more you can get an Intel Core duo and a bigger screen laptop also made by acer.
A bigger screen equals a bigger laptop, which not everyone wants.
Does this one have the same 720p camera as its bigger timeline brothers? I tried the camera in the store and it was very slick. When is it coming in the Core 2 Duo SU9400 version? hehe
Waiting for the 1810TZ (dual core). Hurry up!
Is this laptop/netbook running microsoft visual studio smoothly?
This thing is very tempting. I really want a slim, cool running, laptop that will do streaming Netflix, Hulu, and DirecTV2PC. This seems like it is very very close but not quite there for all of the above. Netflix should be accelerated soon with Sliverlight 3 (if I understand things) and DirecTV2PC might just work (though the machine is well under some suggestions). Hulu is the one that doesn't seem to have a chance.
Once the dual core version is out I'll probably bite.
Now this is what I like to see. I mini notebook with real processing power! Products like this should help keep the Atom Netbooks down below $400, where they belong.
just got my Acer 1410 from amazon.. cpu-z reads socket P 45nm at .875 VID cpu speed is listed at 1.4 but cpu-z is reading 1596mhz.. 2048 mb of ddr2 dram frequency 332 at 1.8 v (samsung m4 07t5663eh3-ce6)
When will the black on be available?! I ordered it from amazon not knowing it was the only color not in stock. Suck!
I purchased a black one yesterday at BJ's Wholesale for 399.99. It has a BJ's extended 2 year warranty for an additional 39.99 if you want. Seems to be a fast little PC and almost as small as a netbook. It pushes Ofice 2007 without any issues. Will upgrade to 4 GB sometime in the future.
