Barely more than 24 hours after the Nokia stunner of the century -- the company's
announcement of the Booklet 3G "mini laptop" -- we're starting to get some
more details about the 10.1-incher.
Netbook News is reporting an unnamed source that claims the netbook will run $799 -- certainly not a netbook price. The Booklet will boast a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530, and will reportedly boast a 120GB HDD, plus integrated 3G, a swappable SIM card, A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi. There is no official word on pricing or release date, but we're expecting to hear tell of all that at Nokia World (which is on September 2nd). There are a few previously unseen shots after the break -- and hit the read link for even more.

Funny how in such a short moment I can be so absolutely certain that I'll be instead looking at the HP Mini 5101 or the Toshiba NB205.
I suggest you try typing on the NB205's keyboard before buying it.
Yeah I'm more interested in the HP Mini 5105, this thing is way overprice.
Nokia Please!
I suggest a thick pair of glasses.
I'm actually more interested in Dell's Inspiron 11z @ $399. But without a optical drive, I think it's worth waiting until after Windows7 is released, than to buy it now with Vista.
ehh... I'd rather have built in GPS, HD Radio tuner, and HDTV Tuner, all free to run and no cost then integrated 3G...
Here's a project for any Netbook companies to differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack.

'build it and they will come...'
At the selling price, they won't sell many if any. :) Looks like this notebook will fade away much
quicker than any other notebook on the market. What a way for Nokia to start the PC business!
Most people will never see this price, it'll be carrier-subsidized so they'll think it is $99.
not in america it won't. the unsubsidized prices for an acer aspire one or dell mini 10 is $399. What carrier in their right mind would subsidize something that costs double that and doesn't even bring anything groundbreaking to the table?
Nokia hasn't been particularly aggressive in making carrier subsidy deals. See the N97.
The subsidized price for Acers, LGs, Lenovo, HP (not the vivian tam edition) etc. in Denmark , with 6 month handcuffs to some telecom or other, is the equivalent of 30 cents of an american $ (1 DKK).
But I don't want to be chained for 6 months, andI'm still undecided between this babe and the Samsung N310 (once they will come bundled with win 7)

The subsidies in the US are starting to come on down. Just picked up a Gobi-enabled 3G HP Mini 110 at Best Buy fro $99. It was a little more expensive on AT&T and Verizon, but still well-subsidized.
Hum $799...
Ok it's MUCH more expensive than the average 2009 netbook.
BUT
It has 12 hours of battery, built-in GPS, 3G, hot swapable SIM, near 720p resolution, and it's very light.
This is a very high quality product and I don't reckon it's too expensive for what it is.
the question is more : who needs a GPS in a netbook ? how can I carry a 10 inch netbook like it was a smartphone ?
Well done engadget comparing (again) things that cannot be compared... I won't trade this Nokia vs any Acer/Asus I can get for $399, just because they don't offer the same things FFS !
Yes a BMW 7serie is much more expensive than a toyota yaris, well that because it's not the same f**king thing !
That's cool, I'll never buy one.
Neither will I.
I was quite excited about this until I saw the price :-( I was hoping this would be the replacement for my Aspire One.
Is it just me, or just the name Booklet make anyone else think of Piglet (Winnie-the-Pooh).
Why not just Nok-book ?
Say Whattt? I would pull a Chris Burden and have someone shot me in the arm.
Yes...I'm artistic not autistic.
Yea... at ~$500 it would've been reasonable, unless people buy this from a wireless carrier. $799 is too high a point for people to buy this I think when you can buy reasonably similar substitutes at much lower price. Value added on this isn't that high.
$800?!?!?! For what? The only thing this has over my $250 netbook is 3G and GPS, which I'm fairly sure don't add up to $550
You forget this is coming from a company that sells a ridiculously overpriced out of date "smartphone" ( http://bit.ly/nokiasmartphone )
It's also got a 12-hour battery (or so they say). That's probably a big chunk of the cost.
For god sake, they are not overpriced! You are comparing Nokia Sim Free handsets prices with prices from other manufacturers that are subsidised by networks! Thats the case in the UK, and I guess thats the case in America.
I think the price is pretty reasonable considering the high-res screen, HDMI out, astonishing battery life and of course the 3G/GPS capabilities... I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one of these.
Wow, $800 is a bit pricey, is not like it has 250GB HHD, 2.0GHz Intel Core and a 15.4 display.
I see Nokia turning into apple, very expensive...
even apple couldnt pull off pricing like that. This is just insane.
But like everyone is saying if you get it from AT&T you should be able to get it a lot cheaper.
Wait till the iWhatEverItWillBeCalledTabletPad price is announced :)
Typical Nokia business.. They always start at a high price, but bring it down pretty quickly.
Agree with everyone else. I desperately love Nokia products and designs, and this one certainly has some nice extra features, but I'll keep my $250 Dell Mini 9. Sheesh.
Rev A to have problems
This isn't Apple...
If this thing can actually pull off 12 hours of battery life, it may be worth it. I'm not sure there is another netbook that comes even close that number. Would be interesting to see what carriers pick this up.
a netbook with built-in 3g for $800? im sure the price is wrong.
If this price is true, Nokia is clearly on the way down...
Wow, that's a bit ridiculous. Maybe it's a two pack for $799?
Sadly, that'd still be pricey. Make it a 3-pack and you're getting closer to how much it should cost.
From your own frickin link: "I also suspect that the $799 price at Netbooknews is a European price converted into US dollars putting it at 560 Euro including taxes here and about $599 in the U.S. We’ll have to wait to see if I’m right about that though."
And of course the subsidized price will be much lower.
$599 = still way too expensive.
Sans taxes, $499 sounds more reasonable.
@Jeebus: Even that is too expensive. Honestly, it's a netbook with your average netbook specs plus GPS and 3G. Really, it should cost right around $300-$350.
@Mark
Show me a product with same (or at least similar) specs (AGPS, HDMI etc.) and price that is lower than 599.
From a quick search the Toshiba Satellite L500D-ST2531 is $577.15 with a dual core Athlon 2.1GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive, ATI Radeon HD graphics chip with 512MB graphics memory(should be more than enough to handle 1080p output). It may not have GPS or 3G, but really, how much do you really think those chips cost?
Mark, that Toshiba piece of crap weighs more than twice as much, has a plastic chassis and a pathetic battery life. Look, I know where you're aiming with all this, but remember, this Nokia Booklet 3G is definitely aimed at a different audience than the average 6 pound plastic turd.
lets not forget that the aspire one with 3g has a MSRP of $449. and that's only rated at 3 hours, has windows xp, no gps, no hdmi, no bluetooth, non-swappable sim, and cheaper build materials. So for $350 you are getting a 12 hour battery ($90 for only 8hr w/aspire one), Windows 7 ($120 to upgrade from prev OS), GPS ($150 for Nokia LD-3W), HDMI ($50 USB to HDMI adapter), Bluetooth ($30 USB Adapter), and hot-swappable sim + better materials that you can't add for any price. i used the aspire one as an example because many people mentioned it. to make an aspire one *almost* as good as the nokia booklet would run you $790 total, unsubsidized. to not have adapters hanging out everywhere, have to install extra hardware/drivers, and have a better made device is well worth the $9 difference. does it really cost nokia that much extra for those materials? of course not. would i buy the booklet for $799? fsck no! but i see where they could position the "value" of the device as being around $799. i really hope its wrong and that other reports of 400 euros are correct. or that $799 is just the inflated MSRP price so they can say you're getting a deal with the carriers at "only $399! half off!" lol. i really want this as my next "booklet" but i'll wait until the price drops and its available with more than 1gb.
COME ON NOKIA GET REAL 799 "IS YOU NUTS" FOR THE PRICE PEOPLE WILL GET A FULL BLOWN LAPTOP OR TOP OF THE LINE NETBOOK . SEEMS LIKE NOKIA IS TAKEING THE SAME PATH AS SONY DID WHICH LEADS TO NOWHERE
Sony's path leads to nowhere...? So being one of the hugest electronics manufacturers in the world is nowhere? Take your caps lock elsewhere, toolbag.
toolbag for sure, but correct nonetheless. sony has been losing money left and right, their laptops are overpriced with even the same specs as others, sonyericsson is an epic fail atm, and the ps3 is being outsold by the competition around 5-to-1.
Nokia, if you want to successfully enter a already crowded market then you're going to need a solid product that simply screams "BUY ME" and on top of that you definitely need aggressive pricing... This would have been a real killer in the 500 dollar price range. Then again, these are just rumors, so fingers crossed folks.
eldar murtazin still claims that it will cost 400 euros
http://twitter.com/eldarmurtazin/status/3535907123
"Possibly, i know russian price it is 20000 rubles, due to it 400 euro is correct"
If this is really 400EUR, then I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas :-)
