Keepin' it real fake, part CCXXXIII: MacBook Air loses two inches, adds a Windows key
If we've learned one thing 'round here, it's that the KIRFsters love taking on Apple. And you know, at first glance this KIRFacious take on the MacBook Air doesn't seem half bad. Of course, check it out in profile and it looks a lot more like your average netbook than it does Cupertino's ultraportable -- but at least the shanzai manufacturer in question as thrown in a few things that were neglected in the original, including: two USB ports, a removable battery, and a PCIe slot for a 3G module. That said, they also went with an 11.1-inch display (as opposed to the Air's 13-incher), which could be a good thing or not, depending on your POV. Of course, with a 1.6GH Atom processor and 1GB RAM, this thing isn't exactly a workhorse, though it's safe to assume that the price point will fall far below that of the "real deal." But don't take our word for it -- check out a couple more views of the thing after the break.

I thought it looked pretty nice until I saw the boat hull underneath in that side shot.
its buoyant for all your nautical computer needs!
its the Macbook Air "Blowing Smoke" edition.
whats with the flowers in the background!
Like any geek out there.. may look fit, until he looses his belly-covering shirt!
That couldn't possibly be a Macbook Air.
It has too many convenient features !
LOL
Ummmm the Command/Apple Key has been there way before the Windows key was ever dreamed of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_key Also for the other misinformed person Apple touch-pads are multi-touch so it has multiple buttons on it believe it or not (The lower part of the touch pad acts as 2 buttons).
replied in wrong post for some reason I swear I hit reply on the right one sorry.
it has a windows key .... automatically makes it junk
so very very true! :D
And dont diss the windows key, its pretty
It has a Windows key.
....automatically makes it awesome.
it has a windows key .... automatically makes it junk
the touch pad actually had right click, instead of just one button, too
Sigh, yes, okay, Window is Crap, we get it.
Now please go away.
You mean...you mean if I remove the Windows key on my keyboards, I'll be saved from getting 193 billion viruses and crashes per day and not continuously lose an inappropriate amount of data? Why didn't you let us know sooner?
But Apple is a bit inconsistent :the replacement to the Windows Key is the Apple Key or the CMD Key
O_o
Sorry, forgot the /s
full metal jacket, full keyboard, higher res screen, $290?
will take
I'll take one!
seriously, I will, if I can find a store that sells this computer online.
I read the phrase "full metal jacket" in your comment, and the following was the first thought in my mind :D
Sergeant: "How large are you, Private KIRF?"
KIRF'd MacBook Air: "11.1 inches, sir!"
Sergeant: "I didn't know they made shit that wide, you tryin' to squeeze an extra inch on me?"
Don't. It'll just make you look like an Apple fanboy who's too poor to afford actual Apple products.
You're assuming anyone with a brain cares about what the mindless public thinks about them.
Everyone, at some level, cares about what others think of them. Otherwise, there'd be no such thing as fashion, or even clothing for that matter. Fashion exists in every human society and is intimately linked to the idea of culture. Being dumb or smart has nothing to do with caring about how you present yourself. This desire is human nature. I put gel in my hair in the morning because I don't want to look like an idiot. And I wear deoderant because I don't want people to think I'm smelly. Other cultures may have different values, but what they have in common is that everyone wants to be accepted in one group or another.
Whatever is coating that chassis, I don't want to touch it... looks like some cheap ass silver lead paint...
You can be rest assured it's not as toxic as a macbook's price.
Toxic? Probably not. This wasn't designed by Mattel.
Makes me think of the silver paint on the skate case in Ronin.
The flowers are nice.
They are KIRF too...
It looks very nice! We want.
not exactly a workhorse? man didn't think that the kirf guys would even copy that!
" this thing isn't exactly a workhorse "... From what I recall the MacBook Air isn't exactly a workhorse...
MBA specs: 1.86GHz or 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed
1066MHz frontside bus, 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM onboard. Not exactly slow compared with other ultra-lights either.
They took the MBA concept and gutted it, like most good KIRFs. I bet it won't even cut cake as well as the MBA :-)
No, but it's got the Apple "style". Which automatically makes it worth the thousands of dollars they're charging for MBA.
Well, for some people anyway.
WOW, all that Jim and they forgot to put an Ethernet port in there? tsk tsk..
No, the Macbook Air is My Little Work Pony.
I always felt one of the best move Apple did was allow Window run on their machine. Sure Intel were cheaper chips thanks to Window healthy competition market, but I feel being able to run Window at a native speed played a bigger role in the switch. It's ironic how Apple loves to trash (Intel was before the switch) both companies in their ads.
Apple has had trash campaigns since their conception (the 1984 commercial). The analogy I always think of is the mean kid that picks on every at school because he is insecure about the fact that he has no friends.
Does it run Mac OS X?
There is a reason people are willing to spend a little more money for a uniform consistency of quality programs that allow you do actually get work done instead of fighting the computer.
It's not just the price that should matter to people. There is a difference between getting a bargain and being cheap. Too many people are wasting their money buying junk that they will just want to replace and not be happy with.
So what you're really saying is that consumers should be educated in their purchases?
Hm. Novel concept.
Funny, I've never had to "fight" my Windows PC, and I achieve quite a bit.
not to turn this into a Windows VS Mac argument (which you are trolling and trying to do) Windows (like Mac) has a consistency of quality programs that allow users to get work done, and I never fight my computer. If you fight your windows computer constantly, you are doing it wrong. Users also get to enjoy paying a much lower price.
you already know that this doesn't run Mac OS (only computers made by apple does), stop trolling and go back to your bridge.
OSX86.... why not. Oh and I'm the kind of person who will install every little piece of crap and push my pc/mac to the limit before it crashes on me. Then I know what it can handle. Macs aren't as consistent as you think, as long as you stick to the safe road in either a mac or pc they're just as reliable as the next, but once off the beaten path they dive hard just like any computer.
Yes. It's called iAtkos.
they changed the screen for a mirror? what is the point of that?
its for the art student Mac users are so vain and narcissistic that they would rather just see themselves using a Mac then actually well.... using it.
OSX86 this thing and I am sold.
This would be a great unit for Pystar to sell.
Is that Crow T. Robot from Mystery Science Theatre 3000 in the Shanzai logo?

Nice try.... but to thick
er too* thick
Mabey you are too tight!
I'll be happy to loosen you up a bit...
so instead of cutting cakes, you can now chop wooden blocks!
shit for 290 I might pick that up, throw os x on it and use it as my beater. save some wear and tear on my unibody macbook.
You buy the MacBook because it's a really nice laptop. As a result of your purchase, you purchase another, far worse laptop, such that you can avoid using the MacBook. That's quite a strategy there.
This is why Mac lappies don't have removable batteries any more. Thick is out.
They could just have easily have a removeable battery and be thin. Guzzling money and having control over your products is Apple's motto.
They don't want control over your products, they want it over your brain!
Seriously, stop with the "apple wants to control" thing, the medias manage it very well on their own. The limitations to their products (and by that I mean iPhone, because I've never seen any limitation to what you can do to your mac) are mainly due to those phone carriers and music majors.
On topic, making the battery removable suppose to make a casing with connectors and all, plus a mechanism to lock it... So it does take some space.
The more CrApple gets to look like Windows, the better it will be. Windows rules and CrApple whines and follows.
Is it Friday, because I'm in love!!! I hope Dubli will stock this sooo much
Epic fail on the windows-key :D
MacBook Air, Windows edition! Now with more bulk and bloatware!
Mac Key, Windows Key... Its just a damn key!
I know, I can shove this into an old paper grocery bag. Screw manilla folders!
"MacBook Air loses two inches..."
To lose one inch, Mr Jobs, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness. (Thanks, Oscar)
Looks like a Sony.
it loses two inches of screen and add those to the bottom which results in a far larger dimension @_@ ugly as hell >
They need to bring this out in a 12in with ion, and at the least a Dual Core Celeron CPU.
i bet those flowers are KIRFs too.
