Those 45nm Intel
Celeron 743 and SU2300 CPUs we've been seeing on
spreadsheets and
roadmaps may have found themselves a home with ASUS, if this
DigiTimes report has any weight to it. According to the outlet, two new ultrathin portables powered by the aforementioned processors are set to launch on September 7th, with the first markets to get shipments being Taiwan, China, and Europe. Details are scarce beyond that and there's no mention of price, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it hit the $700 mark up to maybe even $1,000. Other sources say
MSI and
Acer will be making announcements of their own ultrathin laptops not too long after. September 7th is mighty soon, so part of us wonders if "launch" here is simply an unveiling, but in either case if there is something going on in a week, we can't imagine we'll get through the next few days without new factoids trickling out in the open.
intel is going to reveal new mobile cpu's on september 6 - su4100 and it seems su2300 too
I want my ANUS laptops!
That's what she said!
I detect large quantities of fail...
So is that Celeron and Solo? Meh...
Can't they produce low voltage quad cores?
Couldn't they just create 1024 cores at 50Mhz, I remember having a 486 that was really snappy. It just couldn't shift enough memory around when it came to Windows 95, the problem was never the mhz it was the memory throughput. And if mhz does matter for some legacy application just shove a 1.5Mhz core in the middle of the die..
Actually, it sounds like they are dual-cores.
Oh good, i thought the SU suffix stood for Single Unit..
I'm am SO SICK of reading about laptops that don't officially exist and/or won't actually ever come to US markets. Stop with this endless mind game!!!
Most Asus laptops end up on the US market
@Osiris
That may be true, but the words
"...set to launch on September 7th, with the first markets to get shipments being Taiwan, China, and Europe. Details are scarce beyond that and there's no mention of price..."
don't really lend too much confidence. The fact that MSI is even involved with this posting at all is a disappointment in and of itself (they NEVER release their products to the US, it seems)
Aren't they also announcing the Core i5 as well on Sep 6th? Sounds like it'd be a good idea to hold off buying any computer parts until then.
Hope they will release 11" or smaller models like the recent CULV Acer 1410/1810 which is faster than a netbook and priced similarily, a netbook killer!
