e-Detail's dual-screen Prezenter gets Atom upgrade, becomes Averatec PT1400
Last we saw e-Detail's dual-screen Prezenter tablet it packed an underpowered AMD Geode processor, a hefty $1,800 price tag, and no US release date to speak of. While it's been well over a year now, it looks like most of those have now changed for the better, with the device apparently finding a new distributor and a few new upgrades. Now branded as the Averatec PT-1400 "Prezenter," the device packs the same dual 14-inch and 7-inch touchscreens as before, but gets a more powerful Atom Z520 processor (upgradeable to a Z540), along with an 80GB hard drive (or optional SSD), 1GB of RAM, and 802.11n WiFi, among other standard specs. Unfortunately, there's no word on a price just yet, but it will apparently go on sale in North America, Japan and Korea sometime this month, and be available in your choice of black or white. A slightly smaller 12-inch version is also apparently set to follow at a later, unspecified date.

Poor AMD
All business in front, but a party in back. Its the first pc with a mullet.
It's always amazing looking at business-centric hardware like this. Somehow it comes off as even slightly OK for a device with worse specs than most $200-$250 netbooks to cost $1000-$2000. I know that ends up being the premium paid for enterprise support, but as consumers those prices are just mind-boggling.
well mark, thats why they aren't marketed to consumers.
sad thing is, it's just a tax write off for those companies. I've seen it happen all too often..............................
@Grammar Delinquent: Yes, but all of us here are consumers... thus my comment. I even said that this is "business-centric hardware" in my comment to point out that I find such things interesting.
I don't think "all of us here are consumers" was the correct thing to say.
Not all of us on here are consumers. Some of us do owner or play a big role in a managing a business.
I could see this working very well for sales people. It's much easier than carrying a projector in order to give a presentation to about 5 people. It also encourages a more intimate meeting which could help in making that sale.
Um...guys....whether you own a company or not, at some point you're a consumer.
You know, like, after work and stuff.
No? Well, the weekends maybe?
Regardless, I'd think you "providers" would get a lil' intrigued about the (significantly) higher cost to do business.
Personally, I tend to prefer business-oriented tech for my personal use. Less stuff I find frivolous (social networking links, "bonus" software); nothing I can't add if I want it.
The incredible unreflecting Prezenter!
Not only it will not reflect on glass surfaces, it will also not reflect the contents of it's second screen on it's own surface.
Amazing!
I noticed the same thing, and one corner floats at awkward angles, spooky
All of that shop work and they couldn't even fix that guy's sideburns. And is that a #2 pencil?
"More-powerful Atom" isn't a phrase you hear very often.
That thing looks sexy, though.
I don't know whether that was a serious comment, but I think this thing looks pretty darn ugly. That second screen looks way small compared to the rest of it.
Why, when I look at the picture, I feel that the slightest of pressure on the devise will brake the bottom screen.
I think a netbook with a decent projector would make a more effective "presenter" for a cheaper price...
Awesome 80's business people!
The three on the left don't look very impressed.
Sandra Day O'Connor and Orville Redenbacher are not easily impressed.
