Now, details are slightly thin here (as well as machine translated), but we're getting word of two new
Samsung laptops on the horizon -- the 14-inch X420 and the 15.6-inch X520. The X420 will supposedly boast a 1.3GHz Intel Pentium dual-core SU2700, Intel GMA X4500M graphics, 3GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive, with not an optical drive in sight. Similarly the X520 will also feature the ultra-low power consumption SU2700 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 320GB HDD. The X520 will weigh in at 2.09 kg with its 6-cell battery, while the X420 will supposedly weigh 1.7 kg. We're hearing these bad boys are coming to European soil in mid-October, and while we don't have any solid pricing information -- both have been estimated to run somewhere in the €700 range (around $1,000).
way too much
Acer Timeline is about right.
FIRST!!!!
FAILL...
Wow, about 2x the price of other CULV. Way to be a Sony Samsung.
Nonsense - a Acer Timeline with 14.1" screen, SU4100 1.3GHz dual-core, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD and DVD burner costs 649€ at the cheapest here. And the mere fact that it isn't a Acer that dies within a year (like it happened to two of my friends) is enough to pay a little extra if you ask me...
WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP DOING A GBP/EURO TO USD 1:1 CONVERSION?
Have you people not noticed yet that it is never the case for electronics? That more often than not, 700 pounds or 700 euros means 700 USD?
But they should come out with a smaller version. 11 inches please! Keep the SU2700!
Also, why doesn't Engadget point out that all European prices include a VAT of 15-25% depending on country? No, they just do a straight senseless conversion...
Ooooh...nice looking!
Well, as author of the dutch article, the X420 showed up at 700 euro's in the past. There is only one store with a price atm, one I never heared about tho... I guess that the price of the X420M wil drop to ~700 euros.
The smaller 11,6" X120, Engadget doesn't mention, has a pricetag of 610 euros atm, but the pricegraphs showed me 550 euros in the past. I think the 700 and 550 pricetags will be the right ones for the cheaper shops.
Put a decent graphic card in it so I can play wow.
SU2700 isn't dual core.
The Pentium dual-core SU2700 is a dual core processor. Only Intel's "great" numering can make you go nuts ;)
intel's naming convention does suck, but no,
su2700 is not dual core. there is no dual core su2700 either.

click on the "processor numbers" tab.
Meh, you are right. There is just so many other websites out there reporting it as a dual core over and over...
GMA4500: fail.
what does CULV stand for? what exactly is it? im not too sure
Consumer Ultra Low Voltage.
Consumer Ultra Low Voltage. Basically they're underclocked processors so that they use less energy. They're bigger than atoms, but in general they're much more powerful.
Why thank you fine engadget commenters. greatly appreciated :D
Shame that the older X460 Samsung discontinued had the option of the nvidia 9200 or 9300 GS(depending on where you) if you need more power over the Intel 4500hd which is decent. Also Asus offers the ATI 4330 in their 15in and 16in models using the Core 2 Solo.
So, is Samsung and MSI the same? Their laptops look the same, and their model numbers look the similar too.
I just got the Acer Timeline 4810T with the CULV Core 2 SU3500 (1.4Ghz) and I love it. It really does get almost 8 Hours battery life. Very thin, light, and yet powerful enough to run Vista and Office 2007. Plus it has a DVD-RW drive. It sometimes stutters when playing hulu HD or very processor intensive stuff but other than that its great.
Only $550 bucks this week at Office Depot. Pretty much a steal. Compare it to an atom computer and see how much more you get for your money.
PS... neither the SU2700 or the SU3500 are dual core. They are both SINGLE core but they are "Core 2 Solo".
When will they get away from the X4500...give us a real gpu like Nvidia please....
