Samsung expecting OLED laptops in Q3 2010
It'd be about a year late according to an earlier roadmap, but Samsung at IFA this week proclaimed its intention to adopt OLED for its laptop lineup as soon as the screens are commercially available -- "probably sometime Q3 next year" said Kyu Uhm, head of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for the company's Computing Division. Unfortunately, the company was mum on any other details. We doubt it'll look much like its 2008 prototype, but we can dream, can't we?

If the pricing on laptops with OLED screens is anything like the televisions coming out I don't see this really catching on until they can refine the manufacturing process to the point where the unwashed masses can afford it.
Only $7000, with atom N270, 1GB, 160GB HDD!!
There's a niche ultraportable market which, with a LV Core2 Duo and solid battery life, would be willing to pay ~$2-3k+ for an OLED laptop.
I'm not going to be too optimistic about the pricing at this point, BUT... if they make a laptop with decent specs (I'd prioritize battery life over raw power, but that's me), with a 12"-14" OLED screen with 1366x768 resolution (or thereabouts), and manage to price it somewhere in the $700 area (a tall order, I know), they'll be putting something out that I'd seriously consider buying, right when I would be thinking about an upgrade.
Got that Samsung? I'm counting on you...
FINALLY
wha? The Rock?
2000k + laptop parts... This better be mass production to offset cost like they do with phones/pmps.
No, ht epice of Samsung phones are low because they are pieces of SHITE!
Samsung is in love with that shitty touch sensitive control scheme... like the buttons found on the shitty Samsung Upstage and its Wanna -B iPod tuch...
Now they have made it into a huge as touch QWERTY keyboard...
This shite better work
ahhh, you don't get it. haha.
this isn't my batman cup
Those keys do not look comfortable
If you have to sleep on your keyboard, you should prioritise your spending accordingly.
1) Food
2) Bed
3) OLED Laptop
Sexy, yes, but a bitch to type on I'm thinking.
So this means we'll have laptops that are thinner than the Macbook Air, but for twice the price and with half the power?
who said anything about half the power and twice the price?
Wow...that keyboard looks amazing.
-ly bad.
Personally I don't care for it. Not having the feel of the key physically being present, not my thing. Probably explains why I don't own a touch phone. To each his own though. Also, why do they always pick the stupidest pictures for the display, especially lately (aka, life is wonderful with my new mp3 player pics). :P
It is certainly a weird picture. I just figured that she was taking her pulse because she is so excited to hear about this new OLED laptop with a touch keyboard. So excited in fact that she forgot to put down her PMP...either that or she is listening to Gregorian Chants, thinking of the heavenly times ahead with said product. ?!?!?
i would totally buy it , of course they would iron out most of the big problems first by then and hopefully they use the new tech on making oled panels so that it'll be cheaper
it'll be sad if you drop it though....
This laptop looks like it came right out of the movie Freejack.
In the progression of technology, smaller screens are made first before big screens become anywhere near remotely possible/affordable. Considering that they are just now considering using OLED in laptop screens means that HDTVs are still several years away from being mass produced. =/
I'll start saving now.
Now, this will cut cake.
I thought the cake was a lie
It is, but so is this laptop in 2010 Q3.
It'd be super cool if they could add one of those spiffy adaptive button screens where the keyboard would be. To keep it flat and such but still allow you to feel the keys.
Wow that laptop looks fantastic, although i'm not sure how useable it would be. Great thing about OLED is nice, sharp bright screens, so as long as its reasonably priced, it would be great to see on laptops everywhere.
Feel free to check out my website, if you like: http://www.myfreegadget.co.uk
I'll be sure to avoid your site at all costs. I don't want to be advertised to in the one place I come to get away from the bullshit.
wow ill be sure to check out your website since you apparently missed the point of this post, which has nothing to do with the year old concept laptop showcasing an OLED screen, but the fact that sammy is now expecting OLED screens for laptops to be commercially available in Q3 2010, so yeah I'm sure your tech website is just awesome given that your reading comprehension is nonexistent, the comment section in general is already under a plague of doucheness, your brainless posts to generate hits at your lame ass website really are not needed, oh, and thanks for making me waste my time in order to point out how thoroughly you failed, -1 internets from you....kthnxbye
Keyboard looks sexy as hell. But I'm sure it would be a pain to type on.
sexy, was referring to the keyboard.
What the hell engadget? I sent you a link to this about 4 months ago, and you totally ignore it. Now you list it as fresh news?
they never pay attention to it
Looks like she's shaving.
She's not.
She is listening to a music player.
Tactile feedback rocks.
