ASUS gets classy with sleek UL series laptop range
If ASUS' N61 / N71 laptops were just too -- shall we say, glamorous -- for you, how's about the ultra-classy UL lineup? Short for UnLimited possibilities (groan), the UL series offers up a variety of models, all of which rely on Intel's CULV platform for juice and can squeeze up to 12 hours of claimed battery life thanks to having both discrete and integrated graphics onboard. The 1-inch thin machines arrive in either black or brushed aluminum, with room for up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, a dual-layer DVD burner, a Core 2 Duo CPU and hard drives as large as 500GB. Both 14- and 15.6-inch models are available, though your guess is as good as ours when it comes to pricing and availability.

Anyone got an ion netbook, or are the being sold with Windows 7 only?
Ion=distant/fading dream, I hope not. Waiting is a bug bite...
HP Mini 311 got Ion
I don't get it? What is the problem with unlimited possibilities? At least there ARE possibilities and options.... I guess the consumers who just want the company to pick for them might not like this, but price? Then maybe I will check one out
Waiting is definitely a bug bite.
Definitely an attractive notebook. Man, how many different models of notebooks (netbooks included) are there at present? I personally think the notebook market is becoming over saturated at this point now and for the average consumer, it has got to be confusing what their options are when shopping for one:/
the choices are quickly narrowed down to a handful of notebooks when you refuse to buy anything with a glossy screen. people like me who only buy matte displays feel like we don't belong in this world anymore.
@ rube: I'm with you on that one. It's obviously the more practical choice. Luckily ThinkPads are still there for people like us and always will be.

According to this website, it will be available in October. The price will be 8000 SEK for a 13.3-inch laptop.
"Both 14- and 15.6-inch models are available, though your guess is as good as ours when it comes to pricing and availability."
So wait they're available or not???
Trackpad is not in the centre!
No shit, Sherlock!
Now, think about the reason why this is so...I'm sure you'll figure it out in due time.
The G 210m only comes with the 15 inch model. The other is stuck with GMA 4500... Unless they are both well sub-$1000, I can only say they are both full of FAIL.
14' model has discreet graphics too. I think that one is the winner .
I'll stick with my G50Vt, thanks. It's garish and huge, but it's got graphics oomph.
Hehe, I just got one. I'm going to wager a guess, did you pick yours up when they had the huge sale on refurbs, or did you pick up a nice brand new one?
@ L, because the keyboard design is also off centre. Flawed design personally, trying to shoehorn a numeric keypad in there. Thank you Apple for their design sensibilities.
Oh lord, you got to be kidding me. You're 100% douche if you don't know the the touchpad is NEVER in the middle of a keyboard with numerics...
And then you try to justify your reason saying utter BS like "Flawed design personally". I bet you know shit about keyboards.
Practically made my day when you threw in Apple, suggesting that Asus copied. How 'bout you check out the VAIO?
Dip to the shit.
@ n900:
Dipshit fanboy indeed.
@ CrackedButter:
Why would you bring Apple into this? Their notebooks don't even have numerical keypads. Not to mention that all keyboards with numerical keypads are designed off-center. Pickle Dick.
Asus has really stepped up it's style over the past year. I am liking what they are coming out with.
13' model is already available in USA for $600. Tough it has single core cpu , su 3500.
There's a SU7300 version out already if you search for "UL30A-A1".
SU7300 = 1.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
And I just bought my N81-VP for university :(
Same here. Its still better than any other laptop for the price. But 12 hours of battery life...man, that really murders my 2 hours I'm getting with the D1. I'm betting the UL model with the 2.8 GHZ Dual Core processor comes with a +$1,500 price tag as oppose to the N81VP-D1 at 1,250
How does this compare (well, the 14" version, with top specs) with the U80V?
I like the brushed aluminum.
It's all fantastic, except for the >2GHz processors.
How does a 1.4ghz SU9400 or SU7600 stand to a 2.53ghz P8700? Beats me.
