Optoma's PK102 pico projector slims down, boosts connectivity
One thing's for sure: the obsession with pico projectors has certainly calmed since these things first hit the scene right around a year ago. Optoma's PK101 was somewhat of an industry poster child, so it makes sense to see the company outing a successor in hopes of catching the interest of those who held off on adopting early. Still, the predictably titled PK102 does little to improve upon the past, boasting the same native resolution (480 x 320), a 2,000:1 contrast ratio (up from 1,000:1) and the traditional DLP engine. On the plus side, it has managed to trim down ever-so-slightly, step up to 4GB of internal memory and add a few new connectivity options including a composite video input and a universal port capable of receiving VGA and component video signals. Best of all, the PK102 is available now for just $229, which pales in comparison to the $430 or so it took to snag the PK101 on launch day.

But will it project Crysis?
WILL IT BLEND?

I for one, welcome the pico projectors.
agreed, they aren't marketing them like some replacement for traditional projectors, just like a cool little thing to use when you need it. I would like one.
Ok what do people do with these? Can they be hooked to ones cell phone?
Wake me up when they sell a cable to connect it to an iPhone and can project the iPhone display.
From the Optoma website: "Connects to: iPod kit – share the fun from iPods and iPhones"
I wonder if Engadget havent got the prices wrong? According to Picoprojector-info.com the 101 costs $230 and the 102 costs $460 not the other way around.
yeah the price r flipped the 101 is 230 and the 102 is 460
I haven't looked at the specs so it might be there. 4GB memory is great. Add an SD or Micro SD slot. Add a battery (optional snap on) with min 2 hour line. Allow the projector to me laid on top or bottom and allow digital flip of image. Add headphone jack. Digital keystone would be nice too.
Then you can say lay in on a table and project it on a wall right in front of you and watch a (single) movie with no cables or any other components necessary.
In the future add stereo BlueTooth, Wireles HDMI and Wi-Fi streaming.
Pocket able, self-supporting video player / projector here we come.
Woo Hoo ! ! !
Sad.. I bought the old model last month for $275.
If the price listed is correct (which one poster shed some doubt on...) then these are getting VERY attractive. I think the sweet spot for something with these specs frozen in place is probably around $149.99. At that price, a lot of teachers will be able to afford them (which these things could be SUPER powerful for that market when couple with a cheap netbook), business professionals will be able to take a chance on them without a major investment, and parents can get one for the kids to play with.
Resolution wouldn't be great but what about a handful of these mounted to some kinda stand + eyefinity? Win? :D
I still think the brand name "Optoma" sounds like a cancer of the eye: "You've got optoma in your right eye, and it has metastasized."
