OK, when and how much?
Gears of War on Dallas Cowboys' HDTV > Left 4 Dead on this set-up

GO COWBOYS !!!!!!!
People are seriously hyped over this? i hate those black bars between each screen and i would never use it
it would be awesome though if companies made screens specially for this tech if they did i would use it
@DR House: Watch the video. There's no black bars. It uses projectors and just matches them up so there's no space between each picture.
This tech has existed for a while now. You can use the Matrox TripleHead adapter to split a video signal to three monitors. You use one high-end video card to generate a high-resolution image then the Matrox adapter splits it evenly across the monitors.
The only thing new here is the 6-monitor support.
The problem with this approach is that many games do not support the custom resolutions needed or a wide enough field of view to take full advantage of this solution.
Cowboys suck. Won't even make the playoffs this year.
No,
Gears of War on Dallas Cowboys' HDTV < Left 4 Dead on this set-up
because I actually have a shot at having one of these in my living room. This solution is more real than the screen at the cowboy's stadium.
@kmarsh...
Just because you "have a shot" at getting that 50-year-old homeless chick that throws cats at traffic... doesn't mean the 50-year-old homeless chick that throws cats at traffic > Mila Kunis
: )
(let's see if anyone figures-out the Family Guy references)
gah, you beat me.
I was gonna say my girlfriend looks better than Mila Kunis.
@david russel
but the crazy lady who throws cats is from simpsons not just a family guy reference
@Sean. Except for the fact that a TH2GO costs £200, while I doubt eyefinity will cost much extra.
The only alternatives right now are SoftTH (which supports very few games), so unless nvidia can reveal their own multiple display tech, ATI will be the only practical choice for those wishing to game on several monitors.
And it can all be yours for just a few thousand dollars.
Are you talking about just the card, or all the tv's too, because the card itself should be only a few hundred bucks...
@Mjayhunt, the screens also, unless you already have 6 HD screens laying around. hmm.
That card is still going pretty expensive also (under a grand of course, but still expensive).
Wow, okay I concede to my previous comments. That Google Earth demo looked stunningly smooth. Put that up on 6 high resolution monitors and woooww.
Dunno about the Left 4 Dead though. I think for video games like that, theres only a slight margin of improvement of having such a huge screen like that, especially when sitting 4 feet away from it. Everything just gets a little too distracting, plus I would imagine looking at a screen that close would be tiring.
@ Alex - don't make claims like that when you've got nothing to back it up. When you match similar cards, more often then not ATI does just as well if not better than NVIDIA...take for example the HD4890 and the GTX275, they are MEANT to be competitors and both perform at the same level, with the 4890 outperforming in some situations and the 275 in others. You can't just say NVIDIA "always" outperforms ATI, it's just not true.
the freaking reply button never works!
I can concur with the size.
I have 360 hooked up to a projector - 100inchs - sounds great but @4 feet away (that guy looks way too close) you'll get a headache (plus you'll miss things since parts of the game are beyond your peripheral vision) - great for split-screen though.
okthnxbai
Cool, and now we can all visit your site! Or... you know... not.
But the fact of the matter is that nvidia always outperforms ATI cards. ATI cards do beat nVidia for their Price/Performance Ratio.
There is a number of games where ATI cards are faster than nVidia card. But yes generally nVidia has an edge - in part because of better optimized drivers *and* large share of game development market. But the edge isn't as wide as many fanbois try to make it.
In the Radeon 48xx v. GTX 2xx comparisons, it was notable that Radeons have problems at higher resolutions. From the demo it seems that 58xx generation attempts to solve the problem.
But I personally want to see on the new cards properly functioning power management. That's the area where ATI definitely lags behind nVidia.
nice
The funny thing is how they want to show off their gian monitor, then pick a seen from L4D where only a tiny circle in the middle is visible.
I was thinking the same thing. I have a 120" computer screen that looked just as impressive. Now, if I bought 4 or 6 HD 1080p projectors, I would want to show it off with a decent HD video of the Grand Canyon or something.
Yeah well the PS3 out performs the Wii every time too
Louis: We....are unstoppable
lmao.
The only thing I could use that type of setup for is having, say, a movie playing on one screen, work documents in another, and internet on yet another. I could never game on those screens with the black bars in between them.. that'd drive me crazy!
I would however take one of those Alienware curved monitors for that kind of thing (I forget what company actually makes them).
Ah yes, the Radeon HD 5870 sure is a nice card for $399.
Packing 2.72TFLOPS worth of performance from a single chip.
All I saw was left for dead one big screen
That was L4D on 3 2k projectors that are lined up next to each other seamlessly to look like one screen
I want the official announcements for the new Radeon cards already ):
that guy seems lost
No Zombies!?
Because they don't want to show the drastic drop in FPS!
Here's a video of the Eyefinity being tested out on 24 screens if you guys want to have a look.
http://www.tvlesson.com/video/38506_ati-radeon-eyefinity-demo.html
That looks awesome.
Why did you ignore the awesome 24-monitor single system setup? It was running on Ubuntu!
You, sir, +1 internet.
Well played!
I like how the focus of graphics technology seems to be expanding horizontally. What I mean by that is instead of such a focus on traditionally outdoing the last GPU technically, there's things like this. This and 3d. Making a more immersive experience in other ways. (hell you could even include the Wii and other newfangled motion to this). Not that these things are new but seem to be given a greater (non-gimmicky) focus.
OMG... BRB!
OMG!!! BRB!!
Wow... That's Incredible!
Yes. You just run around in circles carrying a gun. The goal is to see who is the fastest runner in the sewer. Hint - run with a light gun.
now boomers will be even easier to spot
You left out any video of the 24 screen flight sim! Come on! A single (Linux) machine powering 24 screens is damn impressive, and according to them (AMD) not possible before this card.
What's that song?
My GOD @ that resolution. Almost fainted when he brought up the menu. Give!
The only reason why I want this card is so that if i got to my schools warehouse with all of our old projectors and pick up 4 of them (they have 800x600 res) I could potentially have a 1600x1200 screen that is quite big for around 50-100 dollars for the cost of projectors and how-ever much the card costs.
If you are complaining about the moniter bezels you have obviously not played on multihead games and donot know wot it is you are talking about so why do you bother to make a comment you show you selfs up as such a NEWB those that have played on triple screen games with either the Matrox TH2GO hardware or the SoftTH software swear that it is the greatest and the greater FOV sucks you right into the game and makes it so much more enjoyable that normal single screen games seem so unapealing that they no longer want to go back to a single screen again
and most games out of the box these days support the widesscreen resolutions just fine as most players are running widescreens :)
if oyu donot know wot you are talking about i wish you would keep you coments to your self and stop feeding missinformation to those that havent treid this yet
these Radeon 5870 Eyefinty cards are the best thing scince the Nvidia 285 i myself prefer to use nvidia i like the drivers ect... that said i will use the best card i can get my hands on with at the moment is this Ati beast i hope to nvidia better them but this time around it just doesnt look as tho they will Ati have a fair edge this time not only does thier cards do hardware tesselation (nvidas cant) ATi came up with DX11 where is ther any news on the the new nvida cards that isnt fake ? ther is plenty of news on these ATi 5870 cards
now that multihead games is availible cheaply on one card games developers are sure to step support for such higher resulutions and multihead after all the consumer if the driving force behind any thing if we buy it they make it
i have been plaing Triple Screen games on my computer scince hmmmm F.E.A.R with SoftTH that is a fair few games lots infact and most have supported widescreen resolutions straight from the box some needed a patch
I am sorry if i have offended you but if you didnt like wot i had to say why did you read it !!!!!!
