HP and Vivienne Tam Meet on the Runway
HP digital clutch for fashionistas features design inspired by "Butterfly Lovers" classic
NEW YORK CITY, Sept. 12, 2009 – Today HP and world-renowned designer Vivienne Tam unveiled the new look in digital clutch chic on the catwalk of Tam's Spring 2010 fashion show during New York's Fashion Week at Bryant Park. The HP Vivienne Tam digital clutch features an original butterfly design inspired by the classic Chinese love story "Butterfly Lovers." Beautiful butterflies are brought to life on a champagne gold backdrop.
"To me, butterflies symbolize love, freedom, independence and transformation," said Vivienne Tam. "I love working with HP because they are also inspired by nature. Together we bring life, color and personality to the computer world, creating fashionable technology for modern women."
The HP Vivienne Tam collaboration marries two cultures - fashion and technology - to reflect transformative spirit and chic lifestyle.
"With her spring collection, Vivienne channeled her creativity into a timeless design that will help HP deliver the next must-have item for fashion-forward women around the world," said Satjiv S. Chahil, senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP.
"The new digital clutch design embodies the inspiration for my entire spring collection," said Tam. "When women around the globe carry HP's digital clutch and wear my clothes, I want them to feel independent and free, like butterflies." 'StyleCaster' virtual experience

Ello y'all!!! i like pie!!!
"(as we call visionary clothes horse Vivienne Tam)"
Really, Engadget, what's up with all the typos lately? Is it too much to check a ten-sentence article before posting it?
Where is the typo.
That girl looks okay, but I still prefer Asians!
Please be weird somewhere else
Not to offend the homosexuals, but since when was heterosexuality weird? Although I do sense a bit of yellow fever.
My first comment obviously had nothing to do with heterosexuality in general, only the OP's fetish which known of us care to know about
So it's forget the laptop just leave me the waif?
Is that a chic or full blown barbie doll?
Or racoon
Chic? Just look at it!
It's bloody awful.
The bright red , vivacious first edition was nice, but this "sweaty armpits" colour is really repellent.
For some reason, I find that image extremely disturbing...
Your avatar you mean?
look at the 6th picture... her toes are very disturbing :|
She probaby just hiding her true feeling of just how bad that laptop is,
Ive got a hp mini it takes 2mins to boot up XP, has 1 proprietary usb port that only works with hp devices, has a proprietary vga port which hp no longer makes leads for, the screens only good if your looking at it directly look at it from the sides the colours are all washed up, battery life dosent last much longer than 25mins,
most of the time just I prefer to take my macbook or eeepc instead
No way! Clak! Haven't seen a legend (uh, scratch that) fanboy around here for a long time!
Claks back with his old name. Its been a long time. Shame its not longer.
Just stopped using Gizmodo, So back for the 34th time on engadget
Probably because her neck is nearly a foot long but her skull is the size of a softball.
She looks like she could cry any second.
Holy crap, they are freaky toes.
"The HP Vivienne is so thin, anorexic teenagers can hold them between their toes"
Where Indians in turbans fit into the picture, I have no idea.
She looks unhealthily skinny.
It's a model I think that's the point.
Wrong. You're too fat.
Wow are their netbook sales that bad?
Am I the only one who like these laptops?
But I will not get them besides the look, after my horrible experience with HP laptops. I become a Thinkpad fanboy.
It's a good thing that netbook is a flyweight because that anroexic model looks like she is going to expel her guts from the effort of holding it.
No thank you, I'll take Maggie Brown clutching a ThinkPad W700ds any day!
the model in image #5 is probably the most unattractive thing i've ever seen. looks like a descendant from Quasimodo
Theodore Girth?
enough with the female inspired designs, i mean is it too much for a company to make something for the guys, it doesnt have to be a masterpiece even a skull inspired look will do.
yes, not enough computer designs are aimed at men already
Fuck the skulls, three wolf moon is where it's at.
She's beautiful and the 30ish guys living in their mothers basement posting how they wouldn't touch her with a 10 foot firewire cable couldn't hookup with old men on Craigslist.
Seriously, not all thin girls are anorexic. My girlfriend is a similar weight to most of these models and eats very healthily. Eating and weight disorders are a serious problem and to call every single thin girl anorexic or bulimic is incredibly cruel and unnecessary.
when did he say she had an eating disorder?
Not him, other people in this thread, who he is clearly decrying (with good reason).
I liked last year's design a lot more, this one just sort of just looks like stock art of butterflies plastered on the case.
--is supposed to make "women around the world... feel independent and free, like butterflies," --
Um, don't women already feel independent and free? In some ways they have more freedom than men these days. They can wear pretty much whatever they want, including the skimpiest stuff and and even mens clothing and be considered sexy rather then weird. They can get sex whenever they want. They can also make out with other women at parties and in clubs and not be labeled gay.
How many of us men have that kind of freedom and independence without being viewed oddly by other guys AND most women?
lol any man who thinks men enjoy less freedom than women is completely clueless to the patriarchy we have built over centuries
Oh really, you mean the same patriarchy we've been destroying for the last 30 years with the womens rights movement? I don't think I'm the one that needs to get a clue here.
Not saying it's bad that women have the same rights and freedoms men do, but the scale is starting to tip the other way.
Michael, just so we're clear.. you are annoyed with the womens rights movement because you can no longer dress like a slut without being called weird, you can't get any sex, and when you kiss other men at parties you get called gay.
You do know it's quite acceptable to be gay these days... just saying...
yes that's why the government is almost 50% female and corporate positions are commonly held by women rather than men
oh? that's not true? oh yeah, that's because the patriarchy still exists
Ok, but can any of those corporate guys go from power suits during the day to sexy sleek dresses at night without being viewed as oddballs, like women can? Now that's freedom. It's not all about money.
Don't get me wrong I have a girlfriend and I'm a pretty decent looking guy. I just wish our society viewed men with as as much sexuality and desirability as we do women. Which is why I always cringe when I hear female empowering stuff like this. Women already have power these days. They certainly have more of a range than men do. They can go from professional career woman during the day to sexy seductress at night. Or if they prefer they can be a stay at home mom. They can be tough or they can be overly emotional. They can do any one of these things without society viewing them strangely. They have an absolute free pass.
Guys on the other hand have to stay on a straighter line.
If you're a bisexual guy over the age of 21 that starts making out with another guy at a party you get crap from your straight guy friends and you get women assuming you're gay. If you wear spandex pants out to the mall because you want to feel sexy and show off your body you get strange looks from people and once again people assume you're either really weird and or gay.
We don't have that kind of freedom that women have without being judged harshly by society. Although I'm not saying I personally want to do these things, I think guys should be able to without such judgment. Then we are truly equal.
I'm not arguing that those situations aren't worthy of being rectified. I'm saying that the problems facing outliers of masculinity pale in comparison.
Dude, I'm a male who wears make-up and leather pants and cuban heeled boots and leopard print, floral print, semi-sheer fabrics, so don't talk to me like I don't understand those issues. It doesn't mean we don't live in a fundamentally patriarchal society.
Spandex pants?
But.. why?
I don't know how to tell you this, Michael, but spandex pants on *women* is not terribly sexy in most cases.
Wow. 10 posts about the HP mini in a row.
Nevermind, I accidentally clicked the Vivienne Tam link. Engadget is now back to normal.
