Archos phone tablet teased: Android, 4.3-inch touschscreen, 1GHz ARM processor
In an all-too brief teaser at a press conference across the pond, Archos decided to give a few more details and a teaser pic of the Android phone it announced back in February. According to the slide, it's got a 4.3-inch touchscreen with 854 x 480 resolution, a 1GHz ARM processor -- likely comparable to Archos 5, but pretty powerful considering what all other Android phones have so far arrived with -- and a 10mm-thick shell. Size and specs-wise, it matches up quite handily to the Snapdragon- and Windows Mobile-powered Toshiba TG01, although that one's already taking up retail shelf space, and it looks like we'll be waiting for some of those infamous Archos leaks if we want any more information the phone tablet in the near future.

archos has always been an amazing hardware producer. I'm an iPhone user, and I'm ecstatic about this. Competition is a wonderful thing. :)
Not surprise, archors was among the very first portable media player to offer video playblack, years ahead of ipod.
Actually he's right read his previous post on Archos Web Site Down Blog

Rah? Competition to the iPhone? They aren't even in the same class.
This is more so competition to the HTC Advantage x7510 phone which has a 5" screen.
Archos only rebrands their low-end shit cause they don't want to waste time on those
Yeah - touchscreen and 1Ghz - main importance in every phone is - BATTERY!!!
What about battery?
I assume basic features will have to be bought separately again since they´re originally locked?
exactly why i havent bought anything archos in the past
The new Archos Android device has no plugins. Other than one "Cinema HD" video plugin for Mpeg2-HD/WMV-HD and one audio plugin for AC3 5.1 surround sound support. Why should everyone pay for these codecs.
Compared to Apple, at least Archos provides you full support to basically all codecs. Including even H264 High Profile 720p for free now.
No plugin's.
Wait no they 2.
Contradictory on terms isn't it. Its either no plugins or 2 plugins please pick one.
Actually Charbox, I believe those are both part of the same plugin. You get the "Cinema" plugin and you get the ability to play those video formats with AC3 sound.
the phone will be better than the iphone, which isn't saying much, actually.
The phone has better specs than the tablet?
1 GHz vs. 800 MHz
854 x 480 vs. 800 x 480
Okay, now THAT is fascinating!
About time someone didn't use the 528Mhz bullshit...
Tell me about it, this will be a winner
I wonder how it will affect power draw / heat issues.
ARM Cortex FTW
now just hoping they have OpenGL 2.0 support
My god. This phone has a faster clock speed than my mom's iMac.
I'm ready for a phablet in my life.
Ha! A Phoblet? Phiblet? Thats a good name for this thing..... I wwant one.
damn, this is interesting. I know Archos rips people off through codec purchases and poor customer service, but they do tend to have reasonable prices. It'll be interesting to see how this phone does in Europe, where unlocked (or at least minimally-locked down) GSM phones are king. 4.3" does seem a bit large though, and 10mm thin (Nokia E71-thin for reference) is pretty amazing.
The Archos people give actually choice to those who don't need to pay more for plug-ins. Its not Apple that RIPS people on every corner - most of 3GS owners upgrade their phone because they think about MMS and thetering - still not yet.
doesn't this look like a blackberry??
Very good Archos, now bring this phone out soon, ok!
Uitstekend! :D
Ja, baie mooi foon
Meer dan uitstekend, briljant zelfs!
Unfortunately it will probably use a special Archos application market instead of the Android market.
Any carrier information yet?
I seriously can't get over exciting the mobile industry is right now! Announcements like these ensure that hardware/software envelope is being pushed further everyday, now all we need is some more pressure on the carriers.
Now, THAT's a phone I would not feel like a complete tool for wearing in a holster. It's way to big for a pocket, but sexy enough that people wouldn't think I'm a complete tool for wearing a holster.
I know I said this about the Touch HD2 (with Android) . . . but I take it back. THIS is the phone that would make me brave the ridicule and rock a holster.
Man knows what he likes.
I didn't see where it listed cellular band information. Is there any?
The screen is a genuine 16:9 display (compared to the chubby 1.5:1 on an iPhone).
So even though the 4.3" size makes it sound a lot bigger than a 3.5" iPhone, it will probably be around the same width, just a bit longer. Should be very pocket friendly.
1ghz? nice thats double the speed of the current procs for most android phones, count me in
This is exciting. :) Glad to see more and more android device popping up. I do hope we see more variety though, not the same cookie cutter reference hardware & UI.
Looking good - on the Inside - Although its good seeing an "Android" chin
Looks interesting, although I'll be waiting for more on the Sony Ericsson Rachel. I must say it's mainly for the fact the SE will likely have a better camera...
A whole GHz on an Android phone? If they don't totally rip people off with awful customer support, this could be truly awesome and unlock even more potential in Android! Plus I like the little robot mascot.
A mascot that looks like Ike from south park.
"Don't kick the baby!!!"
Please please PLEASE ARCHOS MAKE THIS A CAPACITIVE SCREEN! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE! And Android. And at least LED backlit in some way so our battery life isn't eaten away by that epic screen.
Is that a Snapdragon then?
If so.. WIN.
Nope, Cortex
thats it, im sold!
ive been waiting so long, that archos brings his forst smartphone and now they even use android: a dream come true.
i only hope the soundchip is on par with the one in my gmini 202. soundquality was always one of the biggest gripes i had with other smartphones, along with the minimalistic flash-storage in comparison with a 1,8" hdd.
i really hope they'll get it right
"4.3-inch touschscreen"
I believe you meant, "touché-screen"
En garde...
It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.
I love tv references.
HAHAHA!!!!
I love tv references that pertain to something else in life.
sexy time!
They make great products but the service is terrible. There updates are few and far between. Instead of focusing on new product lines they need to fix their existing items.
