Guitar Hero franchise, with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick indicating that new titles from the company will be playable "independent of a console." It's perhaps a natural step, as the franchise's developers must surely spend half their time frantically porting games from PS3 to Xbox 360 to Nintendo DS to graphic calculator to... well, you get the picture. Kotick also said some wondrous things that will make those Activision coders slouch even further into their chairs, developers who already were surely fearing for their jobs, indicating that they live within a corporate environment of "skepticism, pessimism, and fear" with the hope of "keeping people focused on the deep depression," and that he wants to take "all the fun out of making video games." So, then, that My Chemical Romance edition of the series should be announced any time now.

Guitar Hero 5 sucked moose balls. It was same old, same old.
And then Beatles Rock Band came out and made it look a whole lot worse.
Harmonix killed it, Beatles Rock band is THE best guitar/music game out. The Guitar Hero franchise just got walloped. And a Van Halen game without Michael Anthony or Sammy Hagar is bullshit. F you Eddie!

The worst part about that is he's right. I won't be buying it, but you look at any thread about MW2 on Joystiq and it's a bunch of people complaining about how expensive it is but "I'll buy it anyway". Way to send the right message guys.

Working for Activision must be a blast. "You want me to worry constantly about the state of the economy and squeeze as many pennies out of every aspect of the game as I can? Sign me up!" I know not every job has to be Google but still, if I were a talented developer, artist, or even an admin and I read that quote from the CEO, I'd have a hard time even applying for a job there.

I'm a pretty consistent free market kind of guy, but this turd makes it really hard for me to defend capitalism. I hate that he is right, I'm going to buy MW2. But I can't see myself buying anything else from then anytime soon.

Bobby Kotick made a little over 15 million dollars last year alone....but yet because of the "deep depression" he is gonna be cutting jobs!!!! Come on Bobby just give up 1% of YOUR salary and let a few average joes keep there jobs... Wouldn't this HELP the economy by keeping more people employed and paying taxes? Just a thought...

I don't know why this hasn't happened yet. I agree with him. This is the natural progression of things. There are people running out and buying Xbox's and PS3's just to play beatles rockband. . . why? This stuff could all be hardware independant, and make it easier for them to keep updating. Plus they only have 1 sku to develp for. To me this makes perfect sense and I'm shocked it didn't happen back before GH3.
And it really makes sense once you realize that Activision will charge two times as much for this no console needed version making this douchebag all that much more momey. I just wish that all the people who think this guy is a douche would quit buying Activision games, even go as far to cancel their WoW subscriptions, so maybe just maybe they would fire this prick.
unless he plans on releasing a new whole guitar every time a new version comes out, what he is talking about isn't making is console-free, but making the guitar into a console that only plays one game...

Anybody paying $60 for games is a sucker. There is never, ever, ever, ever any need to play a new game RIGHT NOW. There's always better or equally solid games for half the price available (or less) to tide you over until it drops.

Wow, this guys a real charmer. I enjoy playing video games, but because some big shot CEO pretty much spit in our face, the consumer, I think I might not purchase another Activision video game in until management in this company improves. I understand it comes down to making money and profits because it is a business, but when you speak so freely on how you want to destroy your consumers and your employees I find that hard to swallow. Just a thought.
