Well, what do we have here? No sooner do we get a
250GB Xbox 360 on the horizon does this image land in our tip box, showing a
PlayStation 3 slim bundle for
Uncharted 2 that just so happens to have that 250GB hard drive we spotted
in the FCC last month. We've been able to independently confirm that it's legit, but beyond that we've got no clue when it'll be announced or any price / release date information. We wouldn't be surprised to see this hit stores in mid-October alongside
Uncharted 2, but that's just a guess on our part. With any luck, SCE exec Kaz Hirai will be shedding some light at his Tokyo Game Show keynote next week -- c'mon Sony, don't keep us in the dark too long.
Update: Joystiq points us to this rumor from last week that
Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II, and
Gran Turismo 5 bundles are possibly slated for the UK in October for £299 ($494), just £50 more than the current 120GB model.
Update 2: We just got off the line with SCEA, who has denied the photo and told us quite plainly that there's no bundles being planned for America, but that the rep can't speak for other regions (e.g. Europe, Japan) -- not surprising, of course, you
can't believe everything you read on the internet, right?
If you download games and movies from the store a lot on top of putting your own music, movies and pics on there, then yes. I have a 250GB in my 60GB model that I am going to upgrade to a 640GB HDD as soon as they have them at newegg or best buy. I might get this bundle to, being my PS3 crashed about, oh, 25 minutes ago :_(
Hummm mine is 500GB and its only 100GB left... I dont have linux installed so, yeah you have use for 250GB...
I completely agree... (see other comment) other than saying I HAVE A HUGE E-PEEN im not sure theres a real justification for it
Some people use it, since they use the PS3 as their main media machine (games, movies, photos, music etc etc) instead of using their computer.
It's ridiculous otherwise because you can upgrade the hard drive yourself on the PS3 without voiding the warranty so yeah.
It would be good though if it included an extra controller and for like $349 then that would be amazing, but I'm pretty sure they would go the $399 route instead.
If this cost same price as xbox 360 elite would be interesting however look like this bundle lack a extra controller which elite has, but 360 lack blu-ray and that is a huge disadvantage. The elite bundle game is available in all system but the ps3 bundle game is only exclusive to ps3 so that said a lot about who got more exclusive game lately, microsoft should had include HALO OST instead of Call of Duty in my opinion, another halo looking console would be better than current ungly looking modern warfare skin.
Is it just me or are there others that dont get the ps3 slim hype yet? I COMPLETELY understand the price cut hype, but am I in the minority that actually like the ps3 orginal?now a bigger hard drive makes sense, but a 250 is a bit much for a console (ironicly i have a 250gb hd in my ps3, but thats not the point). Unless you're downloading EVERY DEMO EVER.. AND using your ps3 as a media center(which i understand a few people do, the 250gb is just not needed. Most people are doing just fine with a 20gb on the 360 i'd say that the 80gb-120gb is a REASONABLE size, at least untill there is a full game install option (such as i dont need the disk anymore). but then again, theres this crazy thing called PC's for that... anyone have a good and reasonable argument against what i am saying?
5GB of instalation for some games... So if you happen to have 30+ games like me, well you NEED way more then 120GB...
I like to keep all my movies and music on my hard drive on top of the occasional game download. Being on an aircraft carrier makes it impractical to stream as I cant leave me computer, ps3 and all associated cords out all the time, plus I dont want to worry about streaming issues, connection slowing down etc.
most people dont have 30+games, and not all games have an install option. over the life of the system if i have 20 games with a 5gb install thats still only 100gb, then, realisticly how many of those will i still have? i normally sell/barter with/trade my games with somewhat regular invervals, so i never have more than 10-12 games for one system at a time (rarely more than 9-10)[does not include downloaded games].
I also have roughly 500 songs on the ps3(could have much more, but just dont see a reason) and i can see if one were to store movies on there, but even then, you're hard pressed to fill a 250 for the AVERAGE PERSON! lets remember that a tech geek is likely to upgrade a HDD, and thus use it more. the average joe is not.
Yea, I'm really not fond of the slim. I don't like the way it looks (aside from ditching the horrible spider-man font)
I don't like that they cut linux support for seemingly no reason, or that according to engadget the blu-ray drive is slightly slower. Th price drop is fantastic and is really helping sony step up their game, but the slim really seems like a step down.
my ps3 (first version) is using a 250GB WD since the beginning, the 60GB has been powered 2 months and collect dust since then. It is trivial and allowed to replace the disk yourself, so just go for a bigger size as long as disk height is < 9.3mm. I would prefer to see Sony opening up its system to 3rd party apps or let us develop java plugins for the dashboard...

I reckon that's why Linux support disappeared. They can't make a profit from a PS3 App Store whilst at the same time allow you to boot a secondary operating environment in order to load your softwares for free.
The integration of the iPlayer as a 'pseudo-app' on the UK XMB and talk of integrating Facebook and other social platforms any furthur than the PS3 web browser already allows, leads me to believe that the Playstation is going to get in on the extensibility bandwagon.
Save some money and buy the regular version. Unlike it's rival you can swap out the HDD with Sony's blessing and probably for less than buying this SKU. Any notebook drive will suffice. We're rocking 500GB in our original at the moment. You might think that excessive, but we've turned our PS3 into a modern day A/V jukebox... that can also play games. Lol.
WD just came out with a 640gb drive, definately putting one of those in my PS3.
Hooray for competition. Pretty attractive bundle. Still glad I picked up a fatty while I could though. Gotta love linux support. (And the ability to rip BD's straight to your ps3)
Since I'm looking at getting a PS3 for Xmas/Bday, there's no reason for me not to get this. Good job Sony!
The original slim package by itself is already nice. Almost bought one, but now this is a huge selling point. I can live with 250 that seems adequate.
I have FAT PS3 with 4 USBs, 40GB and PS2 backward compatibility. I am going to sell it on ebay for 325-350 then buy Slim 250GB with Uncharted 2, I hope it will be listed for $349 if they put it at $399 I may buy it too. After I finish Uncharted 2 I can sell it on eBay for around $40 and then my new Slim Quiet Efficient 250GB PS3 will only cost me around $10-$35. Now that is a great deal.
Also I know that many of us love PS2 games, but why in the world would you torture yourself with those Graphics. I just can't got back from 1080p. We should also keep in mind that Sony has a lot new things in Store for us. Possible 3D Games in 2010 which will require software updates.
Additional tools, games, demos, movies, tv shows etc. you need space to put all that stuff somewhere. Other day I purchased Matrix Reloaded in HD and that took 10 GB.
I am really excited about new EXCLUSIVE GAMES for PS3, also new Blu-Ray releases and much more. It looks like this Holiday Season will be all about SONY PLAYSTATION 3. LOVE IT.
put Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed 2 AND Gran Turismo 5 in one bundle hahaahha...that owuld be awesome
Not silly at all.
If I bought 3 games with my console, they're be good candidates.
Just 50 pounds more?.... really? It´s like saying you can upgrade to a lamborguini for JUST 180,000 pounds. JUST
A Gran Turismo bundle would be awesome!
GT5; do you know something I don't know?
cool, a slimmer console along with one of the best game on ps3. Definitely awesome
They should include Uncharted 1 as well.
I just heard a rumor.. Uncharted 2 bundle for $399... confirm or deny?
You can't believe everything you read on the internet.
Otherwise I'd be a Nigerian millionaire right now.
Oh wait, nigerian government.
*facepalm*
These things are laptop harddrives. Laptop harddrives cost next to nothing. Hell, why don't they just ship these without a drive, give you a bluray with the OS or whatever, and let you put in your own, at least as an option. Then I could put a cheap 500 gig in and be done with it.

Nobody hates microsoft more then this guy =)
its not just the hdd the game which its an exclusive abd as we know the ps3 has more to offer
This will probably cost $500 knowing Sony. Pass. Looks like theyre trying to copy MS successful MW2 bundle already. Which is already almost outselling the brand new Slim on Amazon.
349, i am all 4 it. sony are the biggest liar/deniars
that pic looks well fake to me.
@poke..all the PS3 fanboy trolls on this site and you chose MY comment to call out for fanboyism?? wtf??? Are you serious?
Anyways the MW2 360 bundle was #6 on Amazon last I checked, almost as high as the PS3 Slim! I'd say thats a good indication it will be popular. We have no such evidence yet for this Uncharted bundle.
Anyways, MW2 is more associated with Xbox360, Xbox 360 is more associated with shooters, has a much better controller for FPS, and PS3 and 360 sell to a young male hardcore demographic that eats FPS up..so I dont think it's a stretch that demo will find a hardcore military FPS a bit more appealing than a Indiana Jones style wannabe B-movie game in third person. I am guessing MW2 will sell much better relatively on 360 than PS3.
Who cares if UC2 bundle stars a system exclusive..that matters why, again?? I dont understand, why are you seeing this as a system war? Shouldn't you want all games to be on all systems? I can only conclude you're a PS3 fanboy. And I dont see why t matters to sales either..am I supposed to think the UC2 bundle will sell better because it's exclusive?? No it will sell worse because it has a less popular game! Sony should have made a exclusive MW2 bundle if anything, that would have sold much better!
At least it is a little better than the megapixel wars in consumer cameras.
